Are the grounds that the Swans reserves play on excessively hard perhaps. The reason i ask this is the youngsters seem to be coping a lot of breaks and fractures (Merredith,Johnston,Currie)and joint injuries (L.Barry,Murphy)more so than soft tissue.I don't know these grounds, drought perhaps or bad luck. Leapping wont mind me calling him a youngster.

We've being playing on these grounds for several years now and this is the first season like it injury term.

Meredith's break is on his arm from a clash (and happen in Sydney I believe) Johnston was discovered to have a bone problem probably since birth and Murphy was a shoulder. Barry did his main injury pre season and soft tissue injuries are not uncommon when returning from a long lay off. Schmidt's also a pre season which really only leaves us with Currie and Laidlaw.

I don't see anything suggesting the Canberra grounds are the cause of an abnormal injury count, it's just a bad year.

beautiful scenic venue, nice ambience etc , almost old style church like if I remember right or umm correctly, might have had a few when I was there...

All ACTAFL grounds that the Swans Reserves play at have to meet AFL standards in terms of playing surface and changing facilities as per the AFLPA requirements, so I doubt the amount of injuries we have had this season to our "reserves" is down to just the grounds in the ACTAFL we play at itself. After all the SCG, ANZ Stadium and Manuka Oval are all AFL Home and Away Season grounds and the reserves have played on those for the majority of the season.

I think the injuries would all relate back to poor conditioning on the players behalf (1st and 2nd year players who aren't use to the level of training yet, back luck (being in the wrong place at the wrong time when they say brake and arm or do a knee) or over train trying to get their fitness levels up. If the condition of the surface was a problem then we would be seeing the same issue with the rest of the squad as well.
