News Adam Cooney Re-Signs

Just happen to be having a coffee at the club, while the Cooney presser was on.
Over heard management talking to reporters about Cooney.
Most you will already know by now but here is a little more.
Paraphrasing somewhat :
Both parties wanted each other, but agreed to wait until late in the year to gauge how his body was holding up. Recent doctors reports positive.
He wanted to help the club to get to a flag, even if we don't get there during his time.
He will play for below his market value, he wants the money spread around to keep the team together.
He is very humble, drives a standard car, lives in a modest house and holidays on the Gold Coast.

Won't bore you with more, but those that had him running off to other clubs to chase that flag or more money were way off !

i'm stoked about this. there's something about the guy and he is such a personality of the club. it'd hurt to see him interviewing elsewhere. To add to that he's a bloody good player and another two years of this form will see this side well and truly on the improve. A year ago we were writing this guy off- me included

I'm so pathetic and clearly this roster is knocking me from end to end, but reading that I got a little tear and then I realised I def need sleep because if this is how tired and emotional I am, I'm up the creek for the rest of the swing.

Agree, he seems like just like a genuinely top bloke, and Hayley is extremely down to earth as well. I think in terms of new draftees and enticing players to the club the Cooney family is a great asset to have. Down to earth, welcoming, with a real passion for the club.
 
Great news, especially if he signs for under market value.

The pieces to the puzzle are falling into place sooner than I would have thought possible. I'm assuming Cooney will go and see Herr Doctorman in the offseason again, and hopefully the results of a second treatment will be improved on this season. His best footy could still be ahead of him. Excited for next season.
 
Good stuff coons & the dogs, we can't let our champion players leave they have to stay & nurture the youngsters as role models & onfield type coaches. It's the only way we'll improve better I feel & we won't be a basket case like Melbourne with list management.

Fantastic news. Well done Cooons and Doggies.
Only down side being we play interstate on Sunday. The reception he would get from our fans
on coming onto the field would no doubt have been deafening.
Still there is always R23.
 
Great Work by our Footy Club, love Coons breaking the lines through the middle, I've always had faith in the direction the club have taken in the past few years, and this only proves to me that I'm right! GOOOOO DOOOOOGS! Flag becons in 2015
 
how good is it to see Cooney at full tilt in games again.....I had forgetten how good he is. For me at his best he is our best player and I love Griff more than just about anyone besides Bobby as a footballer the way they play, but I think Cooney is just that fraction better.....what a choice. To see him on the burst....I hope he holds up going forward he will be a massive part of the next 2 years.

Macca seemed lukewarm when asked about Cooney during interviews which is where some folk may have thought The big man wasn't too keen. Understandable. Hindsight is a charm, it seems Macca probably didn't want to pressure him, plus we now know everyone was waiting for the doctors report results and his knee, is it degrading at a more rapid rate? is it about to blow?, both club and the Coondog would have been nervous.
 
I was one for trading him off if we could get Boyd but I'll admit the error of my ways. He's been a delight to watch in recent weeks and I wouldn't give him up for anyone. A signing coup!

Yep. Me. And I stand by it at the time. 100%. It's fantastic that cooney has been able to make McCartney believe. A great thing for coons, the club and the fans. Great news all round.

You said you thought he was 'gawrn' 11 days ago. Strong turn around, McCartney must have called him a whole lot of times in those 11 days.
