... as of ten days ago. Hard to believe - it seems like yesterday that he was the teenage ruckman that fell from the clouds and just got us over the line into the finals in 1999.

In 2003, I recall making the comment that he was capable of being the first four-time Brownlow Medallist. Fast forward three years and he's half-way there. Is it possible that he could win another two?

...Is it possible that he could win another two?

Tough ask but not impossible. For starters, the role he plays makes him stand-out when he plays well. Last season he polled in pretty much every game where he had a reasonable chance of polling. Being physically distinctive probably helps him a bit here too.

Secondly, he's still only learning about the craft of a ruck-rover. He seems to be a pretty quick learner and there is every chance he will get better at it over the next two seasons.

What could stop him? Well, Chris Judd for one. He is another who gets noticed, whose best is exceptional, and has the potential to improve even further. His downside is that he plays alongside a couple of other flashy midfielders who also attract attention - something Goodes hasn't had to contend with to the same degree.

I also sometimes wonder whether the bar gets raised for the very best players. Will Goodes find that top notch performances become expected and hence are less likely to attract top votes unless it is absolutely obvious he was BOG - which often it was, of course, in 2006. I think Judd maybe suffered from that syndrome at times.

Whether he has time left to win another two is questionable - not so much his own playing time but while the Swans are still a serious contender. It used to be the case that a stand-out from a lower team stood a decent chance but that has become less the case in recent years. With luck and controlled injuries, the Swans should be there or thereabouts for another couple of years, but life post-Hall, O'Loughlin, Barry and Kirk is difficult to forecast at the moment. If he is playing with a struggling team for a couple of years, even the very best performances may start getting 1 and 2 votes, rather than the 3s.

The knees (touch wood) seemed to have held out better than any could have hoped for - he's Stynesesque in his durability for a big man. I suspect his game will continue to evolve as will his role in the team so I won't be betting against him Brownlow-wise. Just a joy to watch and a thoroughly excellent human being as well.

Well, that's another question, isn't it?

We all focused on Crouchy's run whilst it lasted. Goodes, though, has played 168 in a row and is still going (touch wood again). How far can he get? If Yze misses one then Goodes will have the longest current streak.

I like Goodesy's chances of being in Sydney's best 22 better than Yze's of being Melbourne's best 22 - it's form not injury that is Adem's (not Adam's) greatest concern.

27? 27? Doesn't look 27 though. Such a great player and it's not impossible to win 4 brownlows (like you said, he's halfway there), but i don't think he will, with the likes of Judd hanging around.

Even if he doesn't win another medal, and not saying he won't win one. He'll still be a star player in the Swans side.

Mr Durable ain't so durable anymore. But one day, I think Goodes would need a couple of weeks rest. Hopefully his niggling injuries (i.e. knee) won't become more serious THATS if he continues to play. Needs to rest from time to time I'd say...

Goodes said after last year that he reckons he can still improve, and due to the fact that he HAS been improving since 2004, this looks likely. We are potentially on the cusp of watching one of the greatest players to ever pull on red and white enter the prime of his career. 2006 was better than 2003, and how good was 2003?!

I am looking foreward to watching him unleash.

Although he is big and he does ruck occasionally his role this season maybe more of what we saw in the last half of the GF. He played as an outside (and outsized) midfielder with great effect. His combination with Kirky was devastating and took on the eagles midfield and beat them. His pace, size and strength enables him to break tackles around the midfield. Another possiblility in a few seasons is as a key position forward, particularly replacing a retired (shudder the thought) Big Baz.

Don't think he is strong enough overhead for a key forward role. His running will keep him as a big onballer.

Agree his work in the 2nd half of the Grannie was excellent and this will help us add that outside threat we need. Does need to kick more goals like the one to start the last qtr.

Can and will get better.

Please don't start them. They have their own silly thread.

Not not intended to inflame!... all of em are capable of some very good posts and discussion.... just "disses" me that most other TEAM boards on BF have respect and a balance of silly fun but over powered by quantity and quality of intelligent well intentioned courteous discussion.... !!!

Doesn't matter.. go Swannies!

Well he is playing for the Aboriginal All-Stars this year. This ALWAYS spurs him on....i remember how inspired he was represented them at the start of 03 which of course lead to his first brownlow....Hopefully history can repeat.

I hope he doesn't play. Cant afford to lose a bloke like him in a nothing game.

The positive about him being 27 is that he has 7 good years left in him.

MOL is playing as well. And against Essendon.

Goodes and MOL shouldn't play, round one is just around the corner and we need those two.

I have to admit, I didn't realise how quick Goodes was until I watched the GF, he can really get going for a bloke of his size.

@QL 21:: took you long enough eh? :)

Adam Goodes won the brownlow and it still took you that long? Either way, i'm quite glad someone admitted how quick or how good Goodesy is. :thumbsu:
