He's not the most talented bloke on the park and I think he was recruited as a KPP and not so much a ruckman but I take my hat off to this guy. He works hard around the ground, took the hits when he needed to. Sure he may not be a great ruckman but at least he's trying and making a contest.
Needs to work more on his marking and using his body a bit more. He's a big fellow who will only get bigger and there were a few times where if he used his big frame better he could've taken a couple of grabs.
Well done Patto so far!

Don't get me wrong I love the guys work ethic and heart, but it seems to me that he will never really find the right position. He seems sort of an in betweener.

i think the same sometimes - but perhpas he will be a third tall forward- or even a fourth tall forward that pushes up the ground, and allows us to use deledio, tambling, tuck or hyde up forward when needing to rest from midfield duties

his workrate for a guy his size is incredible. you have to allow a position to a player like that - with simmonds back in the side, and possibly another ruckman at seasons end - he could be very important to our team i believe

He is slowly winning me over. Still young so hope his decision making improves, but can't fault the endeavor! The in between size factor is a worry, but if he does enough around the ground, as the backup/hopefully forward role could be his.

A couple of other big recruits in the next few years will see if he is up to it though. Definately has got himself in the 'keep' category now!

you guys are way too hard on pattison. the guy is going to be a very good first ruckmen. rucks take a long time to deveop and he is progressing nicely. with another season or two in the gym and learning the game he will be one of the premier big men. i don't know what else richmond fans want. all this talk in the past of him only being a depth player and a shocking pick is very harsh. let him develop and he will be a 10 year player.

dare i say it,in time,he will be a required player.
Well done Adam.

Totally agree.I think he will be more of a backup ruck or backup kpp.But i take my hat off to him this year as he is trying his heart out

Will become a fantastic player always had it in him (and im not a richmond ssupporter). Hopefully you guys lay off him now and just wait til he plays at Centre Half forward where he plays his best will be even better.

Will never be an AFL CHF just doesnt have the speed.

he was (back as a junior i mean) a fantastic Contested mark may make up for it, but i do see your point about the speed.

Considering he would have been our 3rd choice ruck at start of season, he has done very well to ruck out every game alone :thumbsu:

Very concerning when he gets the ball, as it culd go anywhere, but overall has got the job done this year.

Will do wonders for his develoment, as he would not have got the same chance if Smmons and Knobel were fit.

Lets face it the contested mark bascially doesnt exist anymore.

Will hopefully be a good back up ruckmen who can maybe pinch hit forward.

His speed is surprisingly good, he takes massive steps but not only are his times good for a big man but last night I actually saw it in a match - his closing speed when chasing opponents was impressive. I was impressed with his efforts at CHF for Coburg last month and can see him playing a Nick Riewoldt style of game in the future, he has the engine to do it and a good grab.

Anyone see him take that big knock then get right back up? Plays with heart and there is room for players like that at our club :thumbsu:

Im with most of you, at first .. the thought of Patto as our ruckman was rather daunting, but i think we are seeing that week by week he getting better and better! and its just fantastic to watch!

i hope TW sticks with him all year no matter how poor his form.

Some of you may have read my opinion on the kid in the thread Our Biggest Improver. Has done enough IMO to almost warrant the club ignoring Meeson in the trade PSD and instead focus their attention on Graham from WCE as a bloke we should target and then in the draft we can bring in another ruckman. Note I did say almost.

He's had the opportunities this year and he's tried as hard as he can. With Knobel perhaps being delisted, he could possibly be back up ruckman next year, however we would still need one more.

Yeah your right bout contested marks, good to see him getting praised. Cant see Knobel moving him out of the side and Simmonds should be back soon, so he can go back to what he is more suited floating forward second ruck. Good luck to the kid.

His improvement since say Round 6-8 has been impressive.

To me he looked hopeless early but his belief has noticably lifted and he is learning fast.

You guys should be happy with what he has achieved in the past two months. He has received a few thrashings but he is gutsy and doesn't drop is head. He will compete as a decent second ruck for many years and provided his kicking improves will cause some match-up issues in your forward line.

He won't be a world beater and has his limitations but I feel comfortable in saying he is at home at this level and not everyone in your team can be a match winner.

150 games. A good result for a draft pick outside the top ten.

Exactly. Takes a little time to wind up and get the legs pumping so is slow off the mark which is bad for a key forward or key defender. However when up and running takes those big steps and can chase down 'quicker' guys.

The problem with the big steps is that he is toast when guys change direction on him. That was the big problem he had at Northern Kinghts. He'd chase a guy - they'd change direction and Patto would take 4 steps to slow down and change direction.

Yep. Doubt he will be a number 1 ruckman - but his heart and workrate mean he should be able to be the Stafford-like understudy. Good to have the option to have someone who can throw his body around, raise the elbows and knock some blokes over.

Most clubs have a Guy Richards, Darren Jolly, Cam Cloke, Mark Seaby calibre back-up ruckman and Patto can definately mix it in that company.
