How long is a piece of string?
From 2001 (8 years), we'd have as many good players as not-so-good players. We'd have more good players come from low picks than bad players from high picks. Take from that what you will.

when i found out we drafted hislop and traded for thomson over untried youngsters in a strong draft i criticised the decision and believed it was even more ridiculous then drafting mcmahon, alot of posters disagreed and believed their added grunt and physical precense would be a major boost, while they still have time to prove me wrong, i highly doubt either will come good.

No, I deliberately didn't say it had been good, because it isn't as clear cut as "good" and "bad". If 50% of the players drafted have clearly made the grade and 50% have, for all intents and purposes, flopped, then I'd say it would be a pass. But it isn't like that. Will Tambling make a player? I'd say yes, you'd say no. Tick for our drafting for me, cross for you. Heaps of examples like that. Nothing to do with "my argument". To think it is as clear cut as "good/bad" is just naiive.

wouldnt worry about peanuts who are writing them off after not breaking into the side in the first 6 rounds of thier first year at the club

Agreed. I think Thomson will play with more desire at AFL level like every player should. I've been a bit disappointed, but I still rate him.

He hasnt had the best start but im a fan and I think once he gets in the team he wont come out again. At the moment its hard to see him coming in too soon with Cousins, Cotchin and most likely Edwards will come back in the next few weeks. His best bet would be for Jackson to start playing shit or Tuck get injured.

Thomson and Tom Hislop are both being played out of positions at Coburg. They should both be playing 75% of the game on the the ball. They are both natural midfielders and are both being played in other positions.

Tom Hislop is definately being played out of position. WTF is Terry doing. So he took a couple of overhead grabs in preseason scratch matches and he loves to tackle. That doesn't mean he's a forward.

I would try hislop at half-back with the lack of space in our midfiled rotations - if he is one thing, he is hard as a cats head and has some attitude about him we badly need - we seem to be the nicest club in the league.

Thomson was taken in the same draft as deledio tambling so would be 22 tops. He is returning from a cracked sternum. He would have been at richmond anyway if port wouldnt have taken him and thus we chose meyer. Give the lad a chance to settle in to a new club FFS before we make a call on him.

For a ready made recruit who supposedly wasnt given his chance at his previous club, due to the strength of their midfield, to not be able to forget his way into the seniors of a team who's midfield has by and large been torn a new one, doesnt instill to much confidence in what he can bring to the table.
If he were any ****ing good, he would have started in the first round.

Did he get many touches? Isn't exactly the most exciting player to watch but gets the job done. I'd liken him to having similar attributes to Jobe Watson in the way he'll get in, win the ball and handball it off to the quicker more skillful players (in your case Cousins and co)

You will get a Jobe Watson career out of that type of player whereas we wont.

If Jobe Watson was at Richmond he would have petered out around that time he was struggling a bit.

Our Development coaches prevent us from ever getting a bargain because they cannot take a player to the next level.
