The kid is a player. Would love to see him get a crack.

12 weeks is long enough for him to be considered, specially with big bro and Stokes unavailable, and more so as he is by all reports, better than Motlop.

I think Motlop’s injury has hurt Adam Varcoe’s chances in the short term if anything.

The club will be very reluctant to play any talented undersized players.

The experience with Motlop and Mitch Brown means Menzell and Varcoe will be forced to wait a bit longer than they would have otherwise.

Not sure we can say categorically that Varcoe has shown more than Motlop. I’d say Motlop was clearly ahead until last week - though living abroad I have not seen an AFL game let alone a AFL game for 5 years.

I would totally agree.

The club will not want to expose him too early.

Motlop was indeed ahead until last game when Varcoe had a great game.

The other factor is that if Brown is to come back within a month, then they'll probably need to use the spot for Pods (and rightly so).

So I think Varcoe is unlikely in the short term.

However a continuance of his form will definitely see him elevated at the end of the year.

Can't see them elevating anyone else.

They'll be looking after the salary cap.

And he isn't needed. There are boys who have been in the system longer and who have bigger bodies that can play.

Also Rooke will be back soon, followed by Varcoe and Stokes. And once Hogan gets fitness he would play before Varcoe anyway. Yes different players but they would just juggle the structure to fit Hogan.

Wouldn't be a problem. Gaz, Ling, Bartel, Kelly, Chappy, Hogan can all play forward.

If Hogan came in it would give us more rotations through the mid and forwards :thumbsu:

motlop already had a dodgy shoulder and the knock he got was soft. travis by this stage was already playing. adam is in his second season and looks electric already. not sure motlop and brown are relevant

Dont think i agree with that comment. Im not sure i would be keen to have Tommy Hawkins running from behind and plant his knee in my shoulder.

Head down to training and take a knee in the upper back from a rampaging Tom Hawkins and then tell me it's soft.

Absolutely spot on.

He's a great talent who will get a chance eventually but promoting him now simply because there is a list spot available in an unnecessary cost given he's unlikely to get a game with all of Hogan, Rooke and Varcoe ready to go in the next few weeks (and Stokes coming into the mix in a month).

His time will come.
