Anyone compiled a depth chart with the current ins? i'm working on it but something like below is what i've come up with so far.

FF
Josh Jenkins James Podsiadly Eddie Betts
Shaun McKernan Taylor Walker Ian Callinan

HF
Richard Douglas Tomas Lynch Jason Porplyzia
Lewis Johnston Jared Patrenko
Andrew Otten

Centre
David Mackay Brad Couch Brodie Smith
Nathan Van Berlo

HB
Luke Brown Daniel Talia Rory Laird

FB
Ricky Henderson Ben Rutten Brent Reilly
Sam Shaw Kyle Hartigan Richard Tambling

R Foll
Sam Jacobs Patrick Dangerfield Rory Sloane
Angus Graham

Interchange
Sam Kerridge Mitch Grigg Scott Thompson

Mathew Jaensch Jarrod Lyons

Callinan and Tambling are not contracted for next year and almost certain to be delisted so I would replace them

Make the font a little bigger would probably be my first suggestion.

Afterwards, i'd scrap the postitions and replace with something like

KPF:
Third Talls:
Small Forwards:
Outside Midfielders:
Inside Midfielders:
In/Out Midfielders:
Running Defenders
Swingmen:
KPD:
Rucks:

Andy Otten more on the back pocket than he would be on the forward line.

Typically you would format a depth chart in to positions and then rank the players who play that position from best to worst proposition.

For example:
Key Position Forward - Taylor Walker, James Podisadly, Josh Jenkins, Lewis Johnston, Shaun McKernan
Third Tall / Flanker - Tom Lynch, Andy Otten, Lewis Johnston
Small Forward - Eddie Betts, Ian Callinan*, Jared Petrenko, Jason Porplyzia, Rory Atkins

*If retained in 2014

And so on

I just did the following up based upon our current list situation, at this stage we still need to delist a minimum 3 players, I doubt we will delist many more than that, unless we come across some valuable picks, maybe 4 delistings at most from here:

1st 22:
B: Laird - Rutten - Hartigan
HB: Brown - Talia - Henderson
C: Smith - Dangerfield - Sloane
HF: Douglas - Walker - Lynch
F: Betts - Jenkins - Grigg
1R: Jacobs - Thompson - Crouch
I: van Berlo, Otten, Kerridge
S: Petrenko
E: Reilly - Wright - Podsiadly

Reserves:
B: Ellis-Yolman - L. Thompson - Reilly
HB: Tambling - Shaw - Johnston
C: Martin - Wright - Mackay
HF: Jaensch - Podsiadly - Callinan
F: Graham - McKernan - Porplyzia
1R: Dowdell - Lyons - Riley
I: Siggins, Osborn, Joyce

At this stage that reserves side is bloody strong, but will no doubt be impacted by injuries. Unless we go on some massive culling spree, which is highly unlikely, that will happen next year IMO, or are cut down heavily by injuries, we are a decent chance of winning a SANFL premiership, a lot of very good SANFL level players there IMO.

Depth in terms of ready to go, dependable mid-sized players is extremely good, as are our 3rd tall types, we don't have a heap though in terms of genuine key position types and our rucks are numerous, but a long, long way off dependable.

Replace Hartigan with Shaw

James_37 you have Reilly in the reserves when you know he is our best team according to the coaches and we won't play Talia, Rutten along with Hartigan, Henderson and Otten.

the most likely backline line up

brown Rutten Laird
Otten/Hendo Talia Reilly

with one of Otten or Henderson on the bench or up forward depending on the setup

Replace Hartigan with Shaw

Toss of the coin that one, I'm easy either way, Hartigan is there because Shaw is a 90% chance to be injured.

Given what Hendo showed late in the season, I'm not sure Reilly in the best 22 is such a lock in the coaches eyes, certainly I would prefer Hendo over Reilly.

Also Hendo is NOT a third tall defender, he has shown a complete lack of any useful 1 on 1 defensive capabilities, it's the loose man role or he's up onto a wing/HFF, he is not competing with Shaw/Hartigan and maybe Otten for the 3rd tall defender spot. He is competing with Reilly and possibly LJ for a spot as our designated kicker/loose man in defense.

Also, I think we'll see Otten playing a lot more off of the wing and half forward, not as a defender. In terms of pure lock down defenders, Hartigan and Shaw are better, plus both provide just as much run. I think Sando discovered late in the year how much more valuable Otten is when played in a less defensive, more offensive type role. People forget Otten was recruited as a tall midfielder, who could also play a flanker type role, his first year at Souths was almost purely as a midfielder where he was extremely impressive. Following his breakthrough 2009, he was also expected to move into the midfield before he did his knee and was actually played there in his first few games back from his knee, only he lacked the confidence to make it work. Since then he was pigeonholed as a tall defender and until the Carlton game, never given a run anywhere else.

Atkins?

KPF: Walker, Jenkins, Podra, McKernan.
Third Talls: Lynch, Johnston.
Small Forwards: Betts, Callinan, Wright, Daylight, Petrenko
Outside Midfielders: Mackay, Smith, Atkins (apparently)
Inside Midfielders: Thommo, Douglas, Van Berlo, Grigg, Lyon, Kerridge.
In/Out Midfielders: Dangerfield, Sloane, Crouch.
Running/Loose Defenders: Henderson, CEY, Reilly
Small Defenders: Laird, Brown.
Swingmen: Otten, Shaw
KPD: Talia, Rutten, Hartigan, Siggins
Rucks: Jacobs, Graham, Dowdell.

Something like that, sure i have forgotten some spuds.

Hartigan will replace Rutten, in the short term and long term. More likely than Siggins at this stage.

On the basis that Hartigan was drafted as a ready to go recruit and Siggins is a 18yr old project player, it was always expected.

Disagree with this. I don't think Shaw is particularly great as a pure defender. He is faster than Otten I concede, but his disposal hinders his capacity to rebound well, which could be a really good weapon of his. Let's not forget that Otten played some good games as a defender. He started the year pretty well as a defender (played well on Crameri and then Westhoff until we decided to put Talia on him, was also good in the Bulldogs game), and shut down players like Jack Darling later in the year. I do agree though that he seems to be a more naturally attacking player who can clunk a few good marks a game and get onto the scoreboard. I also agree that he won't be used as much as a defender anymore with Hartigan being there, although Rutten's eventual retirement could open up another spot there, so who knows. Should be interesting to see what we do with him next year though.

Add Jack Osborn he is not far off a game at senior level.

Going to have to agree to disagree re Shaw, although his failure to get on te park procures him from proving terribly much in this regard. Give him a full preseason, unlikely I know, and he'll probably be best 22 and a lock for that 3rd tall defender spot.

This guy is extremely highly rated within the club, Dangerfield is on record saying as much, plus the fact that he was brought into our side this year despite no decent SANFL form suggests just how highly he is rated.

Otten for mine better off in a more offensive type role.

The two games where half of his disposals went straight to the opposition? :)
The 2 games he played OK, while Shaw was still injured as usual...

I see them as different types. Hartigan is more a KPP type who should give the Truck a rest at stages.

3 games, 87.5% disposal efficiency.

He looked very comfortable in every game and rarely made a mistake.
Would be a higher disposal efficiency than Shaw ;)

Shaw needs to play a month of solid SANFL footy to be even considered.

I have Pods (Tex), JJ & Lynch as our 3 taller forwards.

IMO, Otten will start as our 3rd tall defender.

B: Otten, Rutten, Laird
HB: Henderson, Talia, Brown
(Reilly/VB 7th defender rotation)
