Yeh I don’t rate Guccione too highly however any win against a top 20 player is a great result. I know he purely relies on his serve and that if it’s not firing he’s as good as gone, but good to see an Australian other than Hewitt progress deep into a tournament is encouraging. I’m not much of a fan of Guccione because to me he’s not always giving 100% and he tends to give up if things aren’t going his way. And he has some pretty decent brain explosions and his shot selection is generally extremely poor. However in saying all that, good on him for making the SF.Guccione is a big MEH! he is just as bad as Karlovic.Maybe even worse. Up until the 6th game of the 1st set he won 3 points and was down 0-5 against Gasquet. He can serve ace after ace but thats all that he is.He got 71% 1st serves today but he is not going to get that every match. He just cannot play tennis, other than the serve.Ferrero, after he lost to Gooch in 2004 remarked "i feel like i havent played a match out there at all", he is quite right. Last year he played 39 tie break sets in challengers/satellites, the most EVER, thumping ace after ace and taking it to tie breaks. He also won 8% points while returning serves, the worst amongst top 200 players on tour.

Goochy will win the Aus Open. Get on it.
Hewitt's problem is that he hits every ball into mid-court. This just allows his opponent to have an easy shot at a flat ball. Then what? He's dancing all over the baseline to scramble the ball back into play.
Being a good scrambler is fine, but for God's sake Lleyton, learn to hit a winner.
I thought Gucc played alright, the one thing to come out of the Adelaide thing for him was his attitude and ability to fight.
Can someone explain to me why on earth Tennis Ustralia has given Wayne Arthurs a wildcard into the Australian Open. He may be our 4th ranked player but given his age and recent poor performances I would have thought it would have been better used on a younger up and coming player who has also showed some improvement.
Any gueses who will get the last wildcard? Luczek, Healy?
Luczak got the last, but I thought Healy already received one...
Australian men tennis players are really struggling though. There's a fair bit of hope with the female juniors, but the men just aren't coming through.
Although IMO, things will be different in a couple of years.
Healy hasn't received one so will play Qualifying. Here is the full list, I have no problems with any of the males or femals except for Arthurs. A huge tennis Australia mistake.
Australian Open 2070 Wildcards
Australian Open Wildcard Playoff: Robert Smeets (QLD), Alicia Molik (SA)
Kia Pro Circuit: Alun Jones (ACT), Casey Dellacqua (WA)
US Wildcard Exchange: Sam Querry (USA), Madison Brengle (USA)
Asian Wildcard: Go Soeda (JPN), Iroda Tulyaganova (UZB)
French Wildcard Exchange: Jo-Wilfried Tsonga (FRA), Youlia Fedossova (FRA)
Discretionary: Chris Guccione (VIC), Sophie Ferguson (NSW)
Discretionary: Wayne Arthurs (VIC), Monique Adamczak (NSW)
Discretionary: Peter Luczak (VIC), Jessica Moore (WA)
I really don't rate Healy anyway, but I'm looking forward to seeing what Molik, Ferguson, Moore, and the Gucc' can do. Luczak is good value this time of year too.
Actually, in my frank opinion, I rate Arthurs as twice the player as Healy. At least he is capable of beating some good players.
