Not only does he read this, in the past he has used the whining and often ridiculous opinions of seemingly 12 year olds and those with 12 year old mentalities who post here, as the 'groundswell of opinion' or as supporter opinion in general. Really, really bad journalism to think that a few stupid comments made in some forum somewhere, equates to supporter opinion and therefore gives him licence to run with that.

Too true. He's published tripe about the groundswell against Craig on the web, but strangely silent on the 'groundswell' against Williams. They've got whole threads dedicated to getting rid of a club legend but nothing in the mainstream media about it.

He's not Robinson Crusoe there either. Many, many journos (Rooch, Wilson, Sheehan, Hutchison) offer up half-truths masquerading as full facts and then talk about how the issues are in the public forum and everyone's talking about them. The only reason they're in the public forum is because they raised them.

Well I am happy to say that I believe Rooch to be an excellent journalist and the reality is that he could not possibly have held his position for as long as he has if he was no good.

To me Rooch seems bored with his job.

It must be difficult writing about football for an Adelaide paper. You only have two teams to choose from and it must be a stretch to come up with new material and fresh angles each day. In Melbourne there are ten clubs to focus on. One is bound to do something newsworthy every day. Not the case here.

Other senior journos have gone on to bigger and better things. National audience... profile... television... whereas Rooch is essentially stuck in the same job he was in 15 years ago save for the odd article that gets a run in the Herald Sun. Oh, and Saturday mornings on 5AA.

So he's invented a few different ways of keeping himself amused. He's developed his 'schtick' with gentle and not so gentle digs at the Crows that rile Crows fans no end. The difference when Rooch writes about Port is that with Port he actually cares. With us it's just as though he likes pushing the supporters' buttons to get a reaction.

I see some similarities in attitude between Rucci and McDermott. Both steadfastly believe that they are the only ones who 'tell it like it is' and are fighting against a backdrop of pro-Crows propaganda and undiluted support. Both enjoy being the lone voice of opposition and, whenever called to task for one of their opinions, respond in the typical way; that you can't say anything bad against the Crows...

You can picture Rooch and McDermott having a coffee together, each enthusiastically agreeing with the others opinions and reaching the conclusion that "everyone is stupid except us."

I think he's a good journo who has reached his highest level, knows he won't go any higher, resents that to a degree but has come to accept it so has decided to have a little fun. I think we deserve better but there you go. What is certain is that there is no superior writing talent at the Advertiser anyway.

Look I certainly don't want to be seen as a rucci sympathiser - I'm not. But the guy is a journalist generally doing his job. He does his job and writes to evoke reactions - well cha-ching he always gets them from some here and no doubt its one of the reasons he has his job.

I'm just so over people bitching about what he writes. Especailly when the vast majority of it is relevant journalism.

We have collapsed. Some people do feel it was inevitable. The only way to respond is for the club to dust itself off and start showing some results.

Not professionally...enough to say it influences my thinking and recognise that he does his job. I have no relationship with him, not a "fan" as such, but I do respect that he is a journo which is not a position that should lend itself to winning popularity contests.

Not at all. I will skim the odd article and as soon as I see the trademark sniping I move on. I dont need for Rucci to be a crows supporter nor for him to write his articles to please crows supporters. It is incessant and unnecessary sniping which is too ingrained now, that prevents him from being anything of real importance in the football world. This, and that he presents tainted opinion as fact...the ol' "now touted as being...." line, after he himself has invented the opinion in the first place has worn too thin over the years.

BTW does he still use Craig's Press conferences as the basis for entire recounts of the latest match or for ammunition in an article aimed at debunking Craig's words or catching out the crows for...for anything...dissecting them to the nth. degree...after having plenty of time himself to consider comments that have been made on the spur of the moment with cameras clicking, microphones shoved in the face, questions being asked over questions etc etc?? If so, then the pathetic modus operandi has remained the same.

Mind you, I still maintain that he writes a ripper travelogue. He should stick to that.

I don't usually read the Advertiser either.

However - there have been times I've read an article linked here and chuckled at how it quoted craigy's presser so much. Good call there.

but he is in Adelaide so being in his position here is a hell of a lot easier than in other places.....or even a city with more than 1 newspaper.

The biggest issue I see with the Rooch is that his articles are dull, poorly researched and add so little to informed discussion on any teams, players, coaches etc in SA.

With all the syndicated stories coming out of Melbourne, he has become a lazy and irrelevant hack.

This is the very reason I can't stand him the day after Port get another hand out he comes up with this article on us and it's stale news almost like a deflection

few factors should be considered

what comes out on thursday morning is generally written by six pm wednesday night. something like the handout should be investigated properly before being written up - but it's as much the role of fjelstad and the other guys as rucci's to do so.

rucci's pieces are generally opinion pieces rather than factual pieces and should be treated as such. the level of factual reporting necessary to fill the public's demand in sport is not there so rumour and opinion and fills the niche; and responses decrying his impartiality ( or lack thereof) basically affirm his purpose.

rucci has looked at port critically; he's looked at the crows critically as he should - in a town that is 70:30 divided the crows obviously have more media cache and story numbers will reflect this. he's not a great journalist, he's not a bad journalist but he's a lucky journalist.
