No problems with Lade being on top ..... but there's an obvious flaw in the system when Kane Cornes can be ahead of Simon Goodwin in the Advertiser's Player of the Year award.

It’s because no other Port player is pinching any votes, we have 5 or 6 player who legitimately could win the B and F this year so the votes have to shared around they would only have Lade and Cornes.

No it's more because they have to give the votes to only Adelaide or Power players. Port have lost 12 games, so there's a fair chance the opposition had many better players on the ground in all of those games, yet Power players have to be given the 3,2,1 votes (or whatever it is) in the Tiser's award. It's an extremely flawed system when you're comparing players from different games in this manner.

Can somebody post the leaderboard here? I can't seem to find it on the Tiser's website.

On the voting system, they award five players a score out of 10.

Here's the leaderboard:

90 - Lade
83 - K. Cornes
81 - Goodwin
69 - Johncock
63 - Edwards
58 - McLeod
55 - C. Cornes
52 - Ricciuto

I don't think there's necessarily a problem with the system - probably more a problem with the vote allocation.

Purely as an example, Goodwin may be BOG in a big Crows win and get 8 votes. Cornes may be among the best few for Port in a big loss and get 6 votes. It's not a true reflection of each player's worth in a particular game.

I would have thought Goodwin would easily be leading the B&F at this stage.

Maybe so but Johncock, McLeod, Bassett, Rutten, Edwards and Ricciuto as a silly outsider would be in some sort of contention. Simon Goodwin may be the logical choice but the other player have had very good season and will pinch votes of him in end of season award night.

I agree, we have to remember that the club B&F is awarded on a totally different scoring system that recognises the contribution of players in a lot of different ways. That said, Goodwin must be hot favourite.

Yes is strange that Kane is so high up. He has scored big votes in games that he has played really poor in. I really think that the guys giving out the votes/best players only look at the stats after the game.

Also the fact that Shaun Burgoyne isnt even present on the leaderboard shows that there is obviously a flaw in it somewhere.

Agree entirely Macca19. Part of the trouble is they seemed to be locked into awarding votes to five players, which forces them to award mediocrity on occasions.
