Guys - I have no idea about digital cameras but basically I would like to get one.
I would like to get a DSLR as I'm led to believe they are better than 'standard' digital cameras.
I don't need to take any fancy pictures but I wouldn't mind the ability to take sports pictures. Are these any good

Nikon D60
Canon EOS 1000D
Sony Alpha A200

Also whats the go with other lenses. I don't understand the 18-75mm thing. Do I need to understand that? Do I need to get stuff like that?

Any advice would be appreciated

thanks

I'd suggest going around to Camera store and talk to the assistants there to help you make a right choice as well as having a feel of the cameras that you're looking into.

Research on the internet and understand the basics of DSLR cameras and also consider your budget as well.

How much are you willing to spend?

If you're not going to use the DSLR to it's potential then don't waste your money on one. A good "bridge" camera will suit you perfectly.
Basically a bridge camera is better than your normal point and shoot, but not quite as good as a DSLR.

Thanks for the replies. I hate going into stores. I'd prefer to just shop online.

I'm probably looking to spend about $700 to $1000

I've never heard of bridge cameras before. I'll check them out.

Either the Nikon or the Canon won't send you wrong. Though with the Nikon I've had some recommend taking the the lower end D40, and spending the extra $$ on a better lens. I don't so much understand the lens talk, but the above is some advice I was given.
