What is the deal, why can't we win these? It's been the same story for a long time. Is it just bad luck, or is there something to it?

The problem dates back much more than Craigy's time, in fact I saw some stat where we have one of the worst records in the last 10 years of games decided by 6 points or less.

I'd rather get beaten by 10 goals some times, very tough on us supporters. What annoys me more is that Port's record is the exact opposite!

If we're talking this year, I believe it's a case of not being good enough (injuries having an effect), but having great fighting qualities to stick around.

Fact remains, we're not good enough/ weren't good enough to beat most of these sides.

Look at it the other way we played

Cats twice lost twice
Port twice won twice
West coast once lost
Kangaroos once won
Hawthorn once before finals won
Coliingwood twice losi/won
Sydney once won

You could spend hours looking at this bottom line is as long as things are learnt this year both on and off the field it is not a waste

Not a coincidence I wouldn't think.
Actually he was an assistant to our fitness coach. Stephen Schwerdt has been our fitness coach for years and Paul Haines was his assistant. Paul Haines is Geelong's fitness coach now and has practically implemented everything we did last year and its paid huge dividends to Geelong.

The biggest mistake we made this year was reduce training workload in hope of reducing injuries and being fresher at the right time of the year. The problem is we had a dreadful run with injuries (could it be due to lesser training workload?!) and we barely scraped into the 8.

I say go back to gut wrenching PS training!

As for the topic of this thread, I think the stat can be a little bit misleading. Take St. Kilda game for example, we los tby 2 points but at no stage did we look like winning it. We have great fighting spirit and never say die attitude which keeps us in games even when we don't look like winning. Even though we barely made the 8, our worst defeat this year was only 33 points!

Our record in close games since 2003 has been a discrace. Nobody listens to me. As much as I love the Crows I hate them in close games. I was so pissed off when they tried to play possesion footy and I lost my confidence. They deserved to lose this game. But what is the point from outside the top 4, its almost impossible to make it to the Grand Final especially from 8th. But impossible if you have a team that cant win its fair share of games by a kick or less. That 2003 season came back to haunt them this year as I predicted at the start of the year. Crows got what they deserved today!

Mmm, all of our finals losses under Craig have been close.

4 points v Hawthorn 2007
10 points v West Coast 2006
16 points v West Coast 2005 (in the balance with two minutes to go)
8 points v St Kilda 2005

Heartbreaking.

This year we have lost quite a few close games.

We usually go to poo, and when the pressure is on we turn the ball over/make the wrong decisions.

This team gives up and will never learn. :thumbsd:

Last night I thought we were going to lose by 3,2 or 1 points. I was so worried about this game. When I saw the red uniforms emerge I was furious!

31 points up this team decided to ease back and I was furious at halftime and I knew we were going to blow it. Its so damn hard to win on the road when the crowd is following the other side.

We would have won if this game was at the MCG even in the red. Why because this is a ground that brings great memories from 10 years back. Its a shame this wasn't an MCG game. Instead its a TD game with the roof open and red uniforms, this spelt disaster for the club. Geelong vs Kangaroos should have been at TD.

2007 is a season to forget about. It was frustrating at times. The R22 win over Collingwood might give us a momentum boost going into 08.

I dont wanna see the red uniforms ever again. I have the home and away uniforms but I'll never buy the red uniform. Its crap and it haunts this team out of games.

In close games our decision making is CRAP. When the pressure is turned on we are clanger kings.
That's it in a nutshell. You can have all the skills and desire in the world, but if you can't remain composed under pressure, you're going nowhere. Adelaide have too many players who cough it up (choke) under pressure. It's hard to see a short term remedy. It was painful to lose like that, but in a way it was fitting. Frustrating side.

Another Massie mis-match by Craig, Stiffy. :thumbsd:
