The good news is, that boys are back in training.

The bad news is, that this is not a training report :p but I am planning to head down to West Lakes sometime next week. If I get down there I will do the report.

For our interstate fans, CH 10 showed a bit of footage of the boys training and snippets of the interview with Schwerdty. Two youngsters that are training the house down and pushing for senior selection are Chris Knights and John Meesen. Apparently both have been stars of the training track. Considering Knights' trouble with knee tendonitis last year, the great news is that the kid has not missed a single session this pre-season. IMHO, this will be a HUGE plus for him. He was sensational last year with no pre-season and with a good pre-season this year, things can only get beter. Apparently he has been running great times as well.

Trent Hentschel was on 5AA today with David Wildy and Chris McDermott. His 2 picks are Van Berlo and Jonh Meesen. He gave Meesen a pretty big wrap.

Why wouldn't Meesen play??????

I pretty much think that the ruck spots are up for grabs. If Meesen can continue training the house down and if he transfers that training track form into games, I am pretty sure he would get games.

After reading your post Stiffy my emotions have been on a roller coaster;)

Was expecting your detailed training report, only to be shattered by your lack of commitment (work is not an excuse) :p

However you did redeem yourself at the last hurdle by posting the Hentschell interview :thumbsu: ..... I only hope Macca and some of the others can come thru for us interstaters??

As usual, much appreciated , young Stiffmeister.

I was planning to get there myself but unfortunately slept in.

Does anybody know when their next full session on the track is?

Looks like AFC/Telstra have been slack again. At least they could put the training schedule for the week on the freaking website.

I guess the next thing is to ring the club and find out.

Crows near full strength

ADELAIDE'S uncanny good luck with injuries appears set to extend into the new year with all but three players resuming full training this morning.

Only ruckman Ben Hudson (knee), utility Scott Stevens (shoulder) and defender Nathan Bassett (shoulder) will be restricted to light duties when the Crows reconvene at Max Basheer Reserve.
"It is an excellent situation to be in," Adelaide fitness coach Stephen Schwerdt admitted.

"Generally speaking there's been nothing major (go wrong) and that's an element of good luck but also good management by our medical team."

Like last summer, the focus has been on combining fitness with a strong football element, rather than traditional time-trials which are only held weekly.

A mandate of coach Neil Craig, the trend is again proving successful according to Schwerdt, who believed it was behind the club's ability to keep the majority of the squad fit in 2005.

"We did some testing just before the (Christmas) break and that indicated the players are improving in the aerobic area as well as in the sprint tests," Schwerdt said.

"And that is with little running which tells us that using the footballs is also providing us with the conditioning."

Yet to join the main group this pre-season, Chad Gibson (groin) and Luke Jericho (groin) will both step up their 2006 pre-season campaign from 9.30am.

Reliable backman Bassett, who underwent shoulder surgery after Adelaide's preliminary final loss to West Coast, is expected to be at full tilt within a fortnight.

While Hudson isn't expected to play before the mid-season break, Stevens – who is facing a career-defining season at West Lakes – should be pushing for selection in the NAB Cup in February.

Meanwhile, Port Adelaide's 13-day Christmas sojourn will end tomorrow when it resumes training with a running session at McKinnon Parade from 8am.

so far so good. the craigy magic contiues

So now Meeson is training the house down. I take everything I herar at this time of the year with a pinch of salt. BTW I wonder if Knights, Meeson, Maric etc have extended their contracts as yet?

Reading the Wiseby profile on Gibson from when he was drafted he stated that many many months leading up to the U18 championships were disrupted by Groin problems.

His appraisal on Gibson was conditional on the groin problems being under control.....................now he has another groin problem???

Is this a bigger problem than first appears??

I think its OP he has been carrying for quite a while now.

That would certainly be a reason for his average form and lack of fitness in 2005.

BTW thanks for the update Stiffy.:)
