With Hart's delisting our average age has practically halved and we have several impressive young players on our list. When I look through that list I can't really say that any of them are duds as such (Jericho on past performances, Griffin and Hinge need to improve though).

We also have several players in the 24 - 27 age bracket:

Scott Stevens
Nick Gill
Ken McGregor
Ben Hudson
Trent Hentschel
Marty Mattner
Matthew Bode
Robert Shirley

Roo has 1 or 2 years left.
Goody has 2 years.
Edwards 2 years.
McLeod 2 + years.
Bassett 2 years.
Burton 2 + years (he is super fit)

By the time these guys hang up the boots, our young midfielders will be ready to fill the void.

Bring on 2007 and I must say even though some interstate posters are majorly ignorant towards our young players, we have some gems!

Our average age has dropped by 0.67 years (243 days).

With Clarke, Hart, Gibson, Skipworth and Obst on the list our average age (as of today) would have been 25.11 (25 years, 39 days).

With those players delisted and Sellar, Tippett, MacKay, Gill and Campbell added our average age (as of today) is 24.44 (24 years 160 days).

We've delisted the two oldest players on our list, but Gibson and Obst were both still under 20. Of the players we've gained, Gill is 24 and Campbell 22.

I would be mildly surprised if ANY other club fields a list with an average age over 24 (the average is usually around 23.5). Maybe Fremantle, considering they didn't delist any veterans and added only three teenagers to their list.

Make no bones about it, we still have a very old list. That being said, we have far more (and better) young talent than we did before Neil Craig took the reigns three drafts ago.

Forwards before the Draft:

Not sure I know what all this means. So Carlton will be playing Hawthorn next year in the grand final ? Or will they make the finals the next couple of years because their squad is young ? Are Freo and Adelaide doomed from next year because we have an old list ?

Please explain.

I don't want to get into a "your stats are wrong, mine are right" argument, but I'd be curious to know how you arrived at the average age of 23.93. The average by my calculations is currently 24.44 - almost exactly half a year greater than your figure (or a cumulative difference of 20 years, so it's not insignificant).

I've gone through the list of birth dates you provided, comparing them with mine. I found three discrepancies, each of which I then checked on the afc website.

I had Knights birth date out by one month (25/10/86 vs the correct date of 25/9/86). You are incorrect on both Perrie and Welsh. Perrie was born on the 9th, not the 19th. Welsh was born on the 7th, not the 1st.

None of these three errors are significant enough to shift the average by anywhere near 0.5.

I have done up an excel spreadsheet which calculates their ages automatically (given the birth dates) and hence calculates the averages. PM me your email address and I'll pass it on to you.

FWIW, I agree with your total of 3090 games experience on our list.

This just shows we have a very good blend on our list.

The guys in the last two years of their careers are all still playing excellent football

If we can overcome our West Coast hodooo (through more options in the middle) then we are a genuine shot at a flag again.

Craigy Alan Stewart et all inspire confidence that are youngsters can develop sufficiently over the next three years to fill the void left by our senior players as they gradually retire.

Having said that, guys like Roo and McLeod come along very rarely.:(

So how would people rateh them at this stage of the season. Given the amount of injuries to first choice players, Id say they are doing quite well. Loving the Griff. :thumbsu:
