Chezwick IMO you need to go to Anger Management classes immediatly, just calm down and with a bit more experience you should get better at it.

How long have you had and been playing the game for?

If it isn't long then just wait and the wins will start pouring in, if you have been playing for a while then you need to pray and hope for a miricle like the other teams you have been versing get.

You were right man. Thanks, I was weak :D

My problem is, easy mode is too easy, so I want a challenge, but medium is too MUCH of a challenge :(

I think this is a great game, but the things that really frustrate me are:

1. For some reason i can only kick torpedos once or twice per game. I hold down R1 and hold X, but they always still kick drop punts, so bloody frustrating, does anyone else have this problem?

2. Whenever the computer controlled teams get the ball near the centre of the ground, its impossible to stop them from scoring a goal. My defenders are always miles behind the forwards, no matter what tactics i have set, and i have even upgraded their speed to 100.

3. When in a marking contest against the computer, the buttons that i am pressing (spoil or mark) dont seem to register. My player just stands there and watches the computer mark the ball.

are there any solutions to these things?

obviously it makes the games closer because whenever i get out to a 50 point lead, all of a sudden i cant touch the ball, and the computer comes storming home and ends up winning the match...feel like throwing the controller through the tv screen!

yep, i struggle to kick torps as well, sometimes it works sometimes it doesnt.
the only problem with your backmen is that they lose stamina far quicker than any other players, i find that when someone is tagging another player they lose stamina quite quickly. my backmen all have speed of 100 and i rest my FB, CHB, and 2 back pockets for the third quarter and then bring them on a bit fresher in the last quarter, and always punch in a one-on-one in the backline, NEVER go the mark. that should help your defenders to keep up with the forwards towards the end of the game

I found some issues which looking at for the next release.

1. Trading is a joke, too many players are moved between teams.
ie Demons had Jonathon Brown at CHB, Matthew O'Loughlin at HF, Jeff
Farmer at FP etc. Daniel Kerr moved to Adelaide and so on.

2. This has been mentioned before, but the season draw doesn't change from season to season. I am in my second season in career mode and the draw is exactly the same as the previous season. ie Pies play Crows first again at the Dome etc.

3. Injured players are changed automatically by the Cpu. ie Josh Fraser got injured and before I could make the change, the cpu had brought on Sean Rusling because he was listed first on the interchange bench etc. I had to wait for play to restart before I could manually make the change.

More to Come.

If a player is injured during the game you have to take them off.
Wrong, but also true see my answer to stevie wonder.

This can easily be changed in the options, look a bit closer at the manual.

This one is pointed to FH.

I was watching the Strachany: Pure B.S. DVD today and one scene really jumped out at me and made me pose this question,in this scene Brian Strachan was trying out the 2005 AFL Premiership game and when he was playing it I thought, hey why isn't Strachnay in the AFL games, now I know he is a joke character much like Reg Reagan in the NRL but this guy should be in this game, obviuosly he wouldn't be on the Collingwood list but make him an unlockable "Legend" so that people can play him in some way or another.

And BTW why is it that the people at IR Gurus can't use the names of legends like Jason Dunstall, Tony Lockett, Leigh Matthew etc.

How is there a Coprywright or something on putting there names in the game, surely there is more people in the world with the same name as these guys, you could simply say that these characters are based on people with the same name as them, it is just a massive coinsidence that they are in the game and have the same Number and Jumper as Jason Dunstall, Tony Lockett, Leigh Matthew etc.

Just a thought.;)

Yeah, as you said, mentioned before, but I'm in my 3rd season and it's a different fixture now. It must just be the second season that people always get the same fixture. That's what I had atleast.

1. To be honest I rarely use torpedos if at all so I've never noticed this before. Must be my footy background where we were discouraged to use a torp as an option. Will take note of it however!

2. We're looking into this an have maybe come up with a solution. The idea is that all players will have a positioning setting in addition to the regular tag you can set. What this positioning refers to is how close the player will stand his opponent at all times - loose (up to 30m off), accountable (10m or less), tight (bodies up opponent). This should aid you when the ball is pumped into the def50 quickly because you'll know that your backline are playing tight and there should be a 1-on-1 contest.
As far as having a solution for AFL2006? Double team with guys who are quick and have great stamina ratings. Work on developing your defenders in this area and rotate players if the ball is in your def50 more often than not.

3. Yeah unless you're in your fwd50 I would recommend punching and bringing the ball to ground. Sure you can get your timing right and take the mark but the margin for error in your button timing is a key factor.

1. Yep we are looking to limit the number of available players by placing all players in contracts. This will mean only players with 12mths or less remaining on their contracts can be placed on the trading block. In the real AFL there were only 13 players traded last year and they were from 8 of the 16 clubs. A total of 18 draft selections were traded too. We are trying to get similar results but balance it with the fact that this is a game.

2. I swear to god my season fixture changes...

3. Change your injury management settings to manual if you don't want the first player on the interchange bench to come in automatically. There's an interesting bug associated with it in that no matter who the player is he inherits the height attribute of the injured player. So Aaron Sandilands could be injured and replaced by Byron Schammer and Schammer is all of a sudden 210cm!

Yes I remember the Strauchny (not sure of spelling) visit last year. I'm actually in that segment in the background! Unfortunately he isn't a current listed AFL player and that is what the AFL licence deals with. This is why we can't have the actual players from the past.

But like I've said before, if we can get sound-a-like players in there you can edit their names/numbers so that they become the real life legends. The only thing missing will be commentary referring to them.

Pretty sure they cant use blokes like Lockett and Dunstall because they wouldnt be included in the AFL licensing. I'm sure something could be worked out though?

It becomes a costly case-by-case scenario if we follow that path. We neither have the extra time or the financial resources to make it a viable option unfortunately.

FH i just played another game and thought i'd tell you how awesome the ladder is with the little icons. Its a very nice little touch having the icons telling you what teams have sealed a finals spot, cant miss the finals etc. I like it.

It seems to be a standard in most sports games so we thought we'd include it. Besides AFL fans love knowing that it's still 'mathematically possible' they can make the finals even tho they are kidding themselves! (e.g. Richmond supporters around mid-July each season) :p

Bloody hell FH, I told you that last year! I'll try and find the post somewhere. I can remember you said something completely unrelated though :p

EDIT: Im searching for the post now. It's also any interchanged player, not just injured.

EDIT #2: Found 'em. Ok, I said: "1) When you play a little guy in ruck (before you start the game) then replace him with a big guy (i.e phil matera, dean cox) the big guy shrinks to the same size as the little player. My friend made his whole team aaron fiora-size doing this so you have no option but to play with a tiny ruckman if u start the match with a little guy in"

A bit incoherent but I was saying that when a player is interchanged, they "grow" or "shrink" to the size of the other player.

You said: "Little guys will not win the ruck this time around. Player attributes incorporate a jumping element that will allow the taller players to dominate at ruck contests."

Whats that got to do with it? :p

I said: "erm i dont think u get what i mean... i mean: ok i wil go to my ps2 and test this out RIGHT NOW. BEGIN TEST Ok i am starting an eagles game with chad fletcher as the ruck-man. ok hes in the ruck and the other guys way bigger than him. i swap him with cox (so cox is now in ruck) and OMG dean cox is now chad fletcher size. his profile still reads 204cm but he looks and plays like he was 5'7." END TEST

No reply :p

That's true. There'd be a lot of effort getting to everyone you wanted to include. Don't know how much they'd ask for though.
Jason Dunstall would probably be only one that would demand big money....from what I've heard he thinks his s*** don't stink.
Ideally, which legends would people want added?
I'd say a list of about 20 people.
Big names like Lockett, Ablett, Dunstall, Coleman, Whitten, Carey....not having to worry about say Loewe, McKernan, Modra etc..

P.S matera_goal is back....where the hell has he been??? Now we're gonna have to hear all about his GF celebrations...

He can't complain about the GF celebrations in the game as Judd had the same lack of expression in real life! :D

Some ideas for the next version:

1. Have the arrows above leading players red, yellow or green depending on how close the opposition is. I think this would help playability and any issues being faced making the radar easier to read

2. Have a camera mode that allows you to play from the side during regular play and view over the shoulder when taking a free kick or kicking after a mark

3. Display on the screen the name of the player who has the ball, irrespective of who has it (cpu or player). Obviously this would need to be displayed differently to the name that appears to tell you which player you are controlling, but it would do wonders in helping you see who is doing the most damage without having to refer to the stats sheet

4. With the above read out of a player, display a trivia stat when there is a break in play e.g. if a forward pocket has just kicked their third or fourth point for the match, display how many points they've kicked with a ' :( ' face or something

5. Include tackles and hitouts in the stat sheet

6. I don't know how you wil accomplish this as every AFL game has had this problem, but try and reduce the dominance of the centre bounce determining who kicks the next goal. Perhaps make it more crowded in the forward line and more difficult for the full forward to get ten metres in the clear like they always seem too. Sounds easy doesn't it.

Two things that would be nice to fix / improve:

1. If the opposition takes a mark after the siren, you can go up and deck him and he doesn't get to take the kick (fun but incorrect)

2. When the ball is in the air after a hitout, your rovers don't seem to always read the ball very well. They can just stand their or even run in the wrong direction, and it isn't until the ball hits the deck that they attack the ball. It would be nice if that was a bit tighter.

Hope this helps. Still really enjoying playing the game.

Thanks for the feedback/ideas...

1. We now have arrow icons around the screen showing you in what direction you have guys. We are trying to figure out the best approach to show you how close they are either with a fade or alternate colours like you suggested. Good to see we are on the right track there.

2. The regular side camera will do this in 2007. Unless of course you play on immediately!

3. The player names will be on screen if you want them. They will be an option in 2007. Not sure about the nearest opposition player having a name (although I am a big fan of it as I'd like to know if I can out-pace a guy near me) - when I know more with regards to names for opposition players I'll let y'all know.

4. Yeah not too sure about that for now. Time in development will be tight so it'll be included in the 'wish list' for now.

5. I'm pretty sure they'll be in there. They are integral parts of determining the player rankings for the game so they should be in there!

6. In the real AFL clearances both at centre bounces and stoppages are crucial and more often than not do determine whether a score will be recorded. The best we can do is allow you to fine tune the placement of your players in relation to their opponent at all times during the game. Like I stated in another post recently we're looking to allow you to play loose/accountable/tight with regards to your position. If all are set to tight it'll be a closely fought contest for the ball everytime.

7. Yeah I'm not sure the AFL would be too keen to see that implemented. Fun tho I agree!

8. We are looking at player positioning. I've been asking for months now to have players front and centre ready for the fall of the ball. Will see how it pans out.

Keep the ideas coming...

It may have been discussed already but I don't feel like reading 142 pages. :)

The cover and PlayStation website says it is 1-4 player but when we use the multitap it doesn't let us do 4 player?:(:(

Put the multi-tap in a different port. I think it works if you have it in Port 1 in the Playstation, with Controllers in 1A, 1B, 1C and 2...
Can't quite remember if that's right though, but play around with it and it should work.

dunno if this has been said but in 2005 when playing as geelong i would have shannon byrnes in the center and N Ablett at ff if you swap them after the 1st bounce no-one mans up on byrnes and he can kick like 20 goals a game with no opposition
