An Anzac Round without many close games, but some fascinating results nonetheless. Let’s go wrapping…

Demons v Tigers, Thursday night: This fixture is always as much about the pre-game Anzac Eve commemorations as it is about the game itself. Lucky, because the game itself was awful. The Demons did enough in a short third-quarter burst to get past the Tigers. That’s really all that needs to be said; let’s move on.

Pies v Bombers, Friday arvo: A bit of an Anzac Day fizzer in the end, although that’s being unkind to the Pies who were most impressive. Barring a mini resurgence in the second term, the Dons never looked like it. Collingwood on the other hand looked absolutely worthy of being labeled one of the premiership heavyweights. Can Nick Daicos Steele Sidebottom be the goat?? Maybe there should be a thread about that.

Dockers v Crows, Friday night: No idea what to make of these two teams. Just when you think the Crows are pretty good and Freo are pretty bad, they completely reverse the form line. Already looking forward to next week when they dumbfound me again.

Saints v Lions, Saturday arvo: The Lions had their colours lowered last week but they’re a hard group to keep down for long. St Kilda had a purple patch a few weeks ago but they’ve bumped into the Giants, Dogs and Brisbane since. Not panic stations yet given the strength of that opposition, but they wouldn’t want to slip up in an 8 point game against the Dockers next weekend.

Port v North, Saturday twilight: North dead set would have won this if they’d found a smidgeon more polish in the key moments. As it was they ran the Power close in a game most thought they’d lose by a cricket score. Hopefully they’re back on track now. For Port it’s a case of banking four points no matter how you get them. They don’t take them off you for winning narrowly.

Giants v Dogs, Saturday night: The Doggies are doing a fine impression of a premiership contender right now. After being over-run by the Lions in Gather Round (after leading by a LOT to be fair), they obliterated the Saints like a good side last week and now they’ve done a number on the Giants. Previous Bulldogs sides would have followed up that sort of form with a flaky loss. If they can iron out that bad habit then they’re a team going places this year.

Suns v Swans, Sunday arvo: This shouldn’t have come as a surprise to anybody. The Suns are GOOD and Sydney’s piecemeal mix of a few gun players and a bunch of reserves were never going to match them. The Suns may have lost to the Tigers last week but you can do that and still make a Grand Final. Just ask the Swans last year.

Blues v Cats, Sunday arvo: Called this, even if my old mate Fadge did laugh at me for it in the match thread! I joked last week that the Blues were the form team of the comp… maybe I should have said it more seriously. They certainly seem to be coming good anyway. The ‘Who will be better, Carlton or Collingwood’ thread should make for great reading if they continue on their upward curve in coming weeks.

Hawks v Eagles, Sunday twilight: Old man Jack Gunston turned back the clock and had a day out with a few goals. Other than that there wasn’t much to see here… I don’t think. I didn’t actually watch it. If something happened tell me in the comments. On paper it looks like a game where the Hawks chugged along in second gear and did what they had to.

Oh I see how it is. Suddenly the Blues are up and about and it becomes a Main Board invasion!!

Wonder why there aren’t any Swans supporters here 🥴

I was literally about to write a first post saying “reserved for Chief… Liked: Carlton” and you beat me to it 😂
I could always give you the second post ☺️

Sydney needs more Marnus

Liked: North showing some fight. The comp can't have them still being a walkover.

Learnt: Some dogs fans need OPSM. IYKYK.

Hated: Playing a couple short. GTFO Mullin and Clark. :pileofpoop:

Liked: The pre-game on Anzac Day, always top notch, however should really only be 1 game.

Learnt: James Sicily is totally bereft of form and ideas.

Hated: Paul Curtis 3 week suspension...what an absolute farce.

Just a reminder how long the season is for the fans of teams feeling down and out atm.. this was the ladder this time last year compared to end of the season, 3 changes into the 8 from 11th to 17th. Also a reminder to those going well to not get too high of expectations and stay humble.
