Opinion AFL 2025 Opening Round - Weekend Wrap & Liked, Learnt, Hated

I saw most of the Hawthorn v Sydney game. It was very scrappy to my mind...not a good, skillful game to watch. Hawks running power evident again, and they shut out any of Sydney's, usual excellent ball movement. GWS proved that pre-season games mean nothing - stupidly I picked the Pies based on what I'd seen in the GWS, Carlton practice match - Doh! All up an ordinary start to the season.

Gws pies was more scrappy. There were even laser like kicks during torrential rain in the swans hawks

Liked: Callaghan proving what a jet he is(Day too).

Learnt: Hawks forward line has some work to do, but yet still almost kicked the tonne.

Hated: Round 0 being such a bore with a severe lack of footy. Such a fail. Worpel’s injury.

Is technically still cricket season and just too early to start. Don't want only a few games either. Callaghan was great but was opposed to old man river. Though he and Day are the budding midfield stars.

Liked-
GWS, who I heavily doubted pre-season, looked really impressive.

Learnt-
The Hawthorn hype is real.
It doesn't matter which year it is, I'll always be a shit tippster (that's a lie, I learnt that long ago).
The current AFL administration is the worst in the modern era.

Hated-
Opening Round as a concept. It was dumb last year, it looked even worse this year.

Liked- Murphy Reid's 5 minute burst
Learnt- that Geelong were sick and tired of losing to us on their home deck as they took all of their chances.
Hated- the umpiring in Geelong & how we performed.
The early start- its ridicolous that they started at 10.20am- is it really too hard to give us the 3pm game in Geelong?

Liked - Hawks 2-0 without playing at anything like their maximum.

Learned - Without becoming fitter there is a chance Harley Reid will not achieve his ceiling. Hope he understands this’s.

Hated - Suns logo, Hawks having played twice before some had played once - sort it once and for all
