Also, NAS just had the biggest Saints highlight ever and literally couldn't GAF - He is definitely going to SA lol.

Just watched the last quarter
What the actual F were Melbourne thinking at the end
Ran off like headless chooks

I didn’t see it live but just watched the replay of the last quarter. That was a bizarre passage of play. They had all that time to set up and not one of the Dees midfielders thought about manning up on their opponents.

Probably thinking about the extra $$$ he just added to his contract.

This game is exactly why scrapping the 666 warning is so ****ing important. No team should lose like that if they haven't had a warning.
They did have a 666 warning. The one at the end there was their second strike, which is why the free was paid.

Adelaide would be very glad they didn't trade for Oliver a couple of years ago. He would probably be taking up a good amount of the salary cap and playing SANFL.

Couldn't help but notice it... Higgins was way more stoked and listen to any interview a player does when they love their club
Typical Collingwood Nuffy… can’t let anyone have a moment of happiness without being critical of the situation, it’s not about you champ. We get it you follow a good team 👏 bravo lol.

I'm trying to remember two prime-aged AFL midfield guns (same team) declining so badly before they hit 30.

What other contenders do we even have?
Shocking cultural issues down there.
Should have just let both go when they made it very clear they wanted out.

This is what you end up being stuck with I guess

Yep, they'd have fetched a good price if they twisted instead of stuck, back then. At the end of 2022 there were warning signs that became flashing red lights a year later.

If players don’t want to be at your club.. just let them go. Unless it’s for something specific you can try and address, but if they simply don’t want to be at your club and it’s your club that’s the thing they dislike… move them on.

You will do nobody any favors and end up with a very toxic club and poor performing players.

Unhappy players or workers have a tendency to drag others down with them.

There is no better example in the AFL right now than the melb footy club.

The sooner they can get rid of Goodwin, may, Oliver petracca.. the sooner they can start fresh from scratch and build something meaningful

? Nas is not an NGA player.

Hall, the other key player in the last quarter is from the Mid Season Draft.

Next best St Kilda player for the game was Sinclair a Rookie.

I'm saying the Saints had a good win so unlikely to do the academy routine this week.

Some players are just innately humble. Winmar was the same, as was Robert Harvey. All could play little, all hated speaking publicly.

How anyone could believe that Nas could not GAF after the way he played today just boggles the mind.

I think they wanted to get rid of Oliver last year but couldn’t find anyone willing to take enough of his contract to make it worthwhile.

Trac is playing like a guy that has lost his passion which is understandable given what the club did to him last year. I hope he gets out.

Yes great system. Saints will finish say with 6-8th pick. But that will be pushed back to 10-15th.

Lions will be hard done by by finishing in the last 4 picks, but are currently likely to match an Academy player at say pick 6-8.

As in George Orwell's Animal Farm:
All animals are equal, but some animals are more equal than others.

I'm uneducated so I don't understand the last bit.

The quote "All animals are equal, but some animals are more equal than others" is a satirical statement from George Orwell's Animal Farm. It highlights the hypocrisy of a society that claims to value equality while simultaneously establishing a hierarchical system where certain individuals or groups enjoy greater privileges and power.

I will freely admit that St Kilda stuffed up its drafting and list management for a decade. But it has had its house in order for about four years now.

The draft was meant to assist in equalising teams by providing access to draft talent in order of ladder finish. With the various concessions it is becoming less and less so, and this coming draft will be the most compromised ever according to those that rate themselves as experts of the draft pool (Which does not include myself as I am no expert of the draft pool!!)

The Lions have done an excellent job of List management in recent times. However a mechanism to still get access to top draft talent while at the top is against why the draft was established in the first place.

Ironically, your quote is just as applicable to the draft pre-academies, let alone as it exists today. It isn't equal for all teams regardless of whether academies exist or not. The pure draft is in no way a mechanism of equality for the Lions.

There are also other issues facing the league which require academies and the production of additional talent in non-traditional AFL states (including incentives). Hopefully one day academies and the incentives in the form they currently exist won't be required, but we are a long way away from that happening.

Nor was it meant to be, or at least given where the Lions now are at. It was meant to help equalise all teams, which naturally means that it disbenefits teams the higher you finish.

Yes agreed. But some of those current mechanisms are way too generous. Fine if you get them, not so good if you don't.
