STATE OF PLAY:
  • The game is out for Steam and PlayStation. There have been issues with Xbox release and it is unclear when the game will be available.
  • Big Ant are aware that there are playability issues & bugs at present.
  • Content has been temporarily removed from the game to identify where the issues lie.
  • This content will be re-introduced via patches in the coming days.
  • Big Ant have released a summary of what is to be reintroduced, which can be seen below.

Alright. Some details on new patch. JNT BA BigAntStudios this is for you

Just had a lot of fun. Tigs v Cats, selected sides as tomorrow, hardest difficulty, 7.5 min quarters

Great fun. Really felt like I was relying on my intercept and running backs to drive me forward. Kicking felt great, intercept marking feels amazing and I've got the hang of the timing/vibration of marking contests, spoils and hit-outs.
However, a few issues:
  • as you can see from the score here, I didn't miss all game. Pressing 'goal kick' inside 50 is a cheat code. Set shots are really, really easy. as far as i see, there are two fixes: making the in-game goal kick relevant specifically on the stat of the player (ie, not many issues with Bont, more issues with Taranto), or making it much, much harder to get the ball into the corridor for a straight-on shot.
  • I'm a Tiger, but Timmy Taranto dobbing 3 straight, all on the run in general play. Cmon now.
  • Interchange bugs that cropped up: for some reason, non-midfielder AI players moved into the middle, this being full-back Esava Ratugolea. I went to fix by switching to Geelong, but away team interchange did not work. Also, the substitute was broken again, so no love for Thomson Dow. When I made a home team manual interchange, the player and their match-up appeared right where the ball was bounced to re-start play.
  • Gameplay bugs: handballs and short kicks still sometimes leave players completely stuck in the mud, doesn't happen as much, but it's annoying. Occassionally, handballs fly off and bounce ridiculously. Players still handle like Mack trucks and it's very hard to get precise movements. Players can be unresponsive when switching player, sometimes they moonwalk. Tackles are very slow to actually happen. I tried a bounce handball, it does not work.

  • Far too many hitouts to advantage, and the Ai is very good at seamlessly chaining out of centre bounces especially.
  • The AI needs to be able to intercept mark and spoil more effectively, but this may be down to the tactics that the AI supposedly have according to Ross.
  • I did not receive a single free kick.

- Just a bugbear, but there is no universe where Daniel Rioli can take a contested mark, let alone 5.

Overall, this game is certainly playable and it's good fun when you've learnt the controls.

It needs:
  • tactics and control over the non-controlled players on your team in some way.
  • better responsiveness.
  • better handling.
...and I'll be elated.
 
When you say gameplay, do you have a rough idea what they may be for us PS users which will get it Monday :) ?
There will be a patch tomorrow, it will be on both Steam and Consoles, likely Steam will get in in the evening and Consoles from 2 - 6 hours after.

BigAntStudios, I'm intrigued as to what the UI improvements are about in Academy. I've been making and sharing teams, logos, guernseys etc and really grasping the possible tweeks.View attachment 1684803View attachment 1684804

The reference is to the editing of players - people did not notice the advanced options when editing faces in particular.

Nice work BTW.

People are going to really love being able to share iconic stadiums/players, it's very special in our Cricket universe and expect it will be no different for footy fans.
 
I swear the gameplay is worse!

I’m playing the latest patch on PS5

- tackles don’t tackle but the AI doesn’t have a problem.

- turning around feels like you’re a 90 year old man.

- it says out of bounds when trying to do a set shot on the boundary.

- players don’t man up and you can’t move them when you’re in the marking danger zone (not that it matters given there’s no 50s)

- goal slider breaks and goes clear

- AI on your team doesn’t attack the ball when you de-select the player


Great, handballs, marks and spoils are a thing. But it means nothing if you can’t string 2 plays together
 
Oh so we won't be waiting till Monday for weekend patches mate? :)
Tomorrow Consoles will get a patch.

Steam will likely get one on Saturday and another on Sunday, Consoles will not.

Consoles will then get the same patches as Steam on Monday (plus everything that was put out for Steam on Saturday/Sunday).
 
Any chance we can get a summary or dot points of what we can expect apart from gameplay changes tomorrow? Cheers Ross

Is there any chance we can import some 3d building models for the stadium surrounds?
I have made some stuff in the past in blender and sketchup but just need a way of getting such things into the game.

I am wondering if there is any reason as to why there is currently no Australian anthem prior to ANZAC games and finals games as of yet.

I completely understand that you guys are focusing on gameplay rather than the aesthetics and stuff like that right now, but a confirmation that these cutscene features will be coming or not will be enough for me to stay happy.

One suggestion for cutscenes for ANZAC games is the inclusion of the Last Post before the game as well as the ANZAC medal presentation after the game.

Was this just for the trailer or will this be added also?

Have to say as well, I’ve logged a few tickets to the dev team/support team on your site and they’re very quick and concise with their replies!

Hoping to see management mode patched and working soon so I can start working on my hawthorn revenge list

We wouldn't be able to facilitate 3D geometry being imported, there is enough trouble controlling the complexity in the environment and frame-rate etc. when we allow pre-built assets.

Allowing Stadium, player, guernsey, logo's is about as far as we can go for now, especially when it's cross-platform (AFAIK we're the only ones doing it to this scale).

For Rugby League Live players, was passing the ball very precise in those games? Say if you wanted a very short pass that goes less than a metre, was that a possibility? And how quick was the passing meter in the Rugby League Live games? How does it compare to AFL 23? Curious to know the differences.

In AFL 23, hand balling is always overpowered at short range, the player seemingly wants to hand pass at least 10 metres at all times, I'll showcase that to the support staff.

Understood. Frame rates are very important and I really appreciate the depth of graphics modding possible and intend to take the fullest advantage.
I wasn't thinking massive poly heavy stuff, more like textured boxes with roofs and backdrops which could be optimised with limits. (picture below has a building, fence and bush backdrop. ;) zaun.jpg
Would it then be possible to make use of the assets used in other stadiums?
 
This game copping a lot of flack but it’s actually got a lot of potential. But losing the will to play the game I’ve been lucky to have finished one full game on management mode on ps5 then it crashes or just freezes mid game. It’s really a waste of time playing which is a shame becuase it can be a fun in certain instances. Hopefully when all these patches are done it can fix these issues and deliver on the potential that this game has.
