Hello. Perhaps you've been here before. Perhaps you haven't. If you haven't, here's what you need to know: these threads have a long history of being dumpster fires. For that reason, we take a much stricter approach to moderation than we otherwise do.

What is okay:
  • Heated debate / disagreement
  • Criticising the game / developers
  • Praising the game / developers
  • General shit talk

What is not okay:
  • Personal attacks / name calling / abuse / criticising the person rather than the argument / game
  • Repeating the same thing over and over and over and over (and over) to push an agenda or attempt to dominate the thread

We will not hesitate to permanently thread ban you if you are taking too much of our time.

In the wise, wise words of Jasper Beardsley:

I can't believe they've shared patch notes 🤯

They sound good on paper. I wonder if they're included in existing saves or if you have to start a new game like with bald McQualter (I still haven't seen the fixed model cos I'm still playing through my original season 😩)

Yeah I’d suggest you’d have to start a new season unfortunately hahah

I'll finish this season first just to get it out the way. I think the last game I played was the horrific Eagles vs Norf game in Bunbury where the Eagles kicked something like 6.22 to lose.

In my game we drew 🤣 First game for the season I didn't win. That ****ing match is cursed.

I actually thought it was broken but you'll need to select afl 26 lists from the start menu in play now. I think it defaulted to 25 without me realising.

I like the touch of ex players who are now assistant coaches appearing now in the quarter/half time huddles.

Is this game $10 yet? If it's really cheap I'd be keen to check it out but not at $90+

If you listen to Ross, the game is better than most AAA games, all the bugs are fixed (there were very few bugs to begin with) and you should be proud to pay $90+.

He also says there's no competition when Glinda Games/Tru Blu are still making Aussie Rules/Rugby League games.

I thought they were just re-releasing old ones with all the licences removed?

Not a Ross fan but that's hardly competition.

A lack of competition is one of the reasons we're in this mess.

For Aussie Rules Evolution 2, yes, but for Rugby League Raw, it's like an upgraded version of Rugby Challenge 4 with League rules and a lot of gameplay improvements. The people who played it have been praising the unlicensed Raw, saying it's so much better than Rugby League 26.

I think it's a strategy Tru Blu putting their hand up for sporting licenses by continuing to publish unlicensed sports games, similar to what Big Ant did when they didn't have the licenses to Cricket. They've released an unlicensed Rugby Union, Aussie Rules and Rugby League game the same time Big Ant released their licensed ones, in the last year. I wouldn't be surprised if we see a "Aussie Rules Raw" game from Glinda Games in the next year or so.

I was actually going to say that when I got the game mid-ish Feb..... I was playing with many of the 2026 rules ? Umpire always threw the ball up, I had the last touch rule in the game.

I downloaded the 4gb patch last night, can't really tell what they've done other than the 2026 guernseys.
I do think it's weird that from a Hawthorn perspective, Ginnivan is now back with bleached blonde hair vs the shaved brownish hair I previously saw him with. And Worpel is still in the Hawthorn line up, wearing 29 while Watson is in 5.

A new patch appeared just before, a shade under 200mb, no idea what wizardry the've done this time!

For an unlicensed AFL game to compete with a licensed one it’d need to have flawless gameplay and Evo won’t ever be that.

If they’re going to make Aussie rules games it needs to be something different, I’d be keen to see them turn their Evo games into something that’s more of an arcade/sim hybrid game.

Coaches in 26 as goal umpires is back in full force from 23.

Makes you wonder, my Sam Mitchell as the goal umpire happened during the finals series in "season mode" (twice actually in the semi final and the grand final itself). Haven't seen a coach as the goal umpire in any match that I've played in - play now or manager mode.

Another thing that irks me with every update they do, the changes they make can adversely impact the previous game play to the point where you have to re-learn things (mostly timings?) to play it without issues again.

I had a go at it last night and even though I swear I played it after the most recent update - when I played it last night, there was a lot more spoils of marks, tap ons in general play (instead of a player taking possession of a loose ball they'd knock/tap it along the ground 1-3 times before taking and running with it), saw a few different animations that I previously hadn't seen - but that might have been me not paying attention to the game previously... but I've played it for just over 25 hours now.

** Another gripe with the pc version at least** Sometimes my "settings" revert back to another setting -

VSync keeps turning itself off for whatever reason. The video it doesn't look that bad, but in motion when trying to play and look at the screen, the screen tearing is eye bleeding.

Its not an AFL game if I don't attempt a running goal starting from full back... ended up doing it twice in the same game :P

The second one was funnier as I ran out of stamina heading into the forward 50, but I still managed to goal :D

Such good ai. Not one player came within 20m of you haha

I waited for the right time and pounced. Normally they swam me to the point I need to 1-2 handball (or handball it along the ground to nobody) to create more space for myself.

The AI patterns can be predictable, you can generally tell by the movement whether you'll get caught holding the ball or get the push in the back queue instead.

Also there are times where they overshoot you, I've had a few instances where I've sprinted from the center square to the 50m line.... stopped the player while deciding to either pass, or go for goal... in those few seconds I either gain more space because the AI runs past and ignores me.... or nobody approaches at all, and I can do as I Please. The first time it happened I just did the on the run meter shot for goal, didn't make the distance in air.... but it bounced and rolled through.

This was an early 23 glitch, funny how these glitches are all returning for 26.

You can do some pretty extreme scenarios with the sliders, making them dumb and slow or smart, quick and over skilled.
I see in your other video your goal kick distance is pumped up a lot with the goal indicators from the centre square. Combining that with the Wind Effect pumped up you can kick goals from half way... which gets some pretty outrageous content.
I posted one of those videos once with the extreme slider explanation, but unfortunately people still took it like that was the regular AI and gameplay.

I have mucked around with the sliders for different scenarios, the main one I alter the most is the tackling distance to avoid being grabbed too early or via teleporting.

I did the goal kicking distance similar to AFL 23, bombing goals from the centre square never gets old, reminds me of the cheat codes in Fifa 96 and roosting goals (as the goalie or backline) always pumped me up.

I actually do struggle with the kicking meter, a lot of my set shots aren't even in the green zone so that when it comes to aiming for the proper goal posts, I can slot it in mire accurately rather than pressing in hope.

I like the wi d,reminds me more of Evo and even the older games.... I've had extreme wind during season games where I've aimed the shot into the point posts.. in order to get the wind to curve the ball enough to score a goal.

Was at 19 hours per fortnight (game time), its dropped to 15.... I plan to plough through one more season before winding back and just running ai v ai games. My main objective for manager mode now is to get Gunston to 100+ goals. I tend to do 2.5 min quarters - unrealistic yes.... but in my sports game history (NBA JAM,FIFA etc) I favour shorter periods to play more matches and fly through seasons faster.... however to get Gunston to 100 I've had a few 3.5 - 5 min quarter games.... a lot easier to kick 7-10 goals per game that way :P.

I also want to see what they've apparently changed for the grand final match/celebrations that was hinted at in the patch notes.

From what I could tell the GF pregame presentation has unique past players presenting the cup from the playing teams.
Jonathan Brown for Brisbane
Selwood from Geelong
Buddy from Hawthorn
Mundy from Freo
Etc.
