Hello. Perhaps you've been here before. Perhaps you haven't. If you haven't, here's what you need to know: these threads have a long history of being dumpster fires. For that reason, we take a much stricter approach to moderation than we otherwise do.

What is okay:
  • Heated debate / disagreement
  • Criticising the game / developers
  • Praising the game / developers
  • General shit talk

What is not okay:
  • Personal attacks / name calling / abuse / criticising the person rather than the argument / game
  • Repeating the same thing over and over and over and over (and over) to push an agenda or attempt to dominate the thread

We will not hesitate to permanently thread ban you if you are taking too much of our time.

The auto interchange needs fixing in a hurry, played two games last night in management mode as Essendon - Tsatas twice was chucked in Full Back when Reid was rotated off, turned off auto interchange to fix it, but the minute I switched it back on Tsatas was back at full back, even rotating him around the back line the game still chucked him back, other stupid things like putting a small forward or midfielder in at FF when Wright is rotated out.

The injuries suck as well, at a minimum I'm getting two injuries a game (at least the kids are being rotated around), I get injuries happen, but I'd rather it be at random none of this continued 2 - 3 week out BS, or have an injury stat (not sure if they do) that determines how injury prone a player is.

I also feel like the difficult modes are way off, if you choose to play tactically I feel even on medium the game is hard to grab a win, but the minute I switch to playing possession and just making it a kick fest, I'm blowing teams away even on Hardest, this feels very AFL 23 and makes the tactic stuff pointless.

I feel like this is pretty typical of a small developer, biting off more than they can chew and having the other aspects of the game suffer, I think the community might have been happy if 40% of the management features were removed and they focused on improving the game play.

Nothing major for me just a HEAP of QOL changes / additions.

My list would be:

Presentation: cards, packs, menus are extremely bland. Go over the top and get some actual art design on the cards.

In-game presentation: if you’re showing someone’s stats who’s lining up for goal, show the card type and their real life team stuff like that. Just jazz it up a lil and make it more fun

Better battle pass: again the rewards and everything are quite meh. Need to add more club customisation for unlocks
The objectives are also still bugged. With many that seem like the same bugs since ProTeam launched in AFL 23.

I've 100% played a Tug of Footy game. Objective doesn't pop. When other objectives do pop, you often have to go in and out of menus before the dot will appear, and then once you've grabbed the reward it sometimes won't clear the dot. Just dumb stuff like that.

Such a simple thing too but it's a pain in the dick that to open a pack there's not an "open pack" button. You have to press square to "manage pack" before then pressing "open pack".

Whenever I play a ProTeam game it's the ruck that does me. Got SDK in ruck, and Goldstein on the bench as back up ruck. Without fail SDK takes the first bounce and is then benched for the rest of the game. Then 90% of ball ups are attended by Chol who doesn't have "back up ruck" set, with the other few sometimes being Goldstein.

Game development is hard, you will never heard me say otherwise, but a functioning interchange would be one of the easiest things to implement. Got positions, heights, fatigue etc already in the game ffs. For ruckmen If fatigue > X, interchange for player with same position else next tallest. Done. You could easily add tweaks if everyone on the bench are short too, if everyone on the bench is < height Y, swap with next tallest on field (so you'll most likely end up with a fatigued ruckman resting in the forward line in that scenario).

What do they need to change?

I can think of a dozen improvements, some that are well overdue, but to me the framework is pretty solid and the novelty value is there. It's also allowed me to participate in the SC banter at work which is an unexpected boon.
The main thing is being able to use Footy Points to get players on the Auction House.

It's criminal that isn't an option.

More single player content as well.

It's a lot harder than this to be fair. This method gets a lot more complex with other positions and is conceivable none of your players are in their named pre game position by half time.

I think user rotations is the best option now that the logic is broken. Have an "auto populate" and allow user to adjust it. Messy but better than current. But once you get injuries then it gets super messy

Omg yes. Darcy Moore in the ruck for me for essentially the entire game 😤

I swear I read this exact same scenario happening in AFL 23.

To no one's surprise, turns out BA haven't learned anything and have just released AFL 23 with a new set shit mechanic and slightly changed marking. Same commentary, same bugs and issues. They are a ****ing joke.
Got any vids of this new mechanic?

100% agree this, the ruckman seem to be the biggest issue. They have tried to give us more tactical options but have broken one of the biggest parts of the tactics, the interchange.

Yeah this is why I use Manual Interchange... and have grown to know/use the Mini interchange quite well (although it'd be nice if it stayed up during cutscenes and replays).

I've seen a bunch of people mention their concerns around Auto Interchange though... so I'd expect BA to address it (hopefully).

Having some programming knowledge, but not related to gaming at all, it does seem like it wouldn't be terribly difficult to logically implement.

Aside from the all the above though, there's literally a "Backup Ruck" option, which I have applied to Goldstein and not Chol. Yet for some reason it prefers Chol in the first instance until he's worn out.

Submitted a ticket about the kick in issues last Wednesday or Thursday I believe and still have not received a reply or any sort of confirmation that they’re looking into it
Also mentioned it on their forum and wasn’t acknowledged there either…

I remember Ross saying that AFL Live was a ‘passion’ project back in the day… The only thing they seem to be passionate about these days is blocking people. Crazy how they ignore genuine feedback so often.
Communication should be the easiest part for them

this thread is a very easy way to increase your post count you just mention something about how the devs used to care and also you hope the next game is good but aren't confident

The answer for everything is "log a ticket". I also have one from over a week ago that has had no response whatsoever (the kick distance issue).

This is exactly why I stopped submitting tickets for AFL23 and accepted its fate. Never got a response but their solution to everything was always ‘lodge a ticket’

I think they listened to me when I insisted to their support team they should put a wind meter at the coin toss, because we had a back and forth email exchange where I sent a lot of edited video with suggestions it. Somehow that never crossed their minds during development that you need to know the wind direction at coin tosses, or else it's pointless to even have in there.

Imagine Ross's reaction if WW did this, voice dripping with condescension: "You have to get the little things right"

I’ve had tickets lodged, with no response, and then seen my suggestion show up after patch.
I’ve also had ones where they have communicated alternatives that they were introducing… and ones where they were implemented exactly as I had mentioned.

I know JNT tries to keep track of every suggestion with the Support team… but that’d also be a lot of time and manpower needed to track and respond to, and effort to get everything in the game.

I’d say everything would be put into some sort of JIRA system, linked to other similar suggestions, and given priorities.
As with most software, the highest priorities are crashes… which is why we get ‘stability improvements’ more than anything.

Once these get mostly stomped out, I’d hope to see some features implemented from the suggestions sent in.

Boy oh boy, the amount of times Ross ranted about how WW didn't understand the game because they blew a whistle after a goal was kicked.

I had never thought about it before that the AFL is the only sport where the ref/ump doesn't blow a whistle after a major score. I now umpire AFL and every now and then after a goal a rush of excitement raises the whistle to my lips, but before I blow... I think of Ross (lol).

I dare say though, that if you are complaining about something like that in other games, you'd definitely want to make sure your house is in order.

I played a couple of games of Player Career last night (just played as Harvey Langford, couldn't be arsed making a player). At centre bounces the controls are inverted relative to the camera, making it impossible to position yourself as a midfielder.

On that note, Happy Two Year Anniversary for everyone being upset at BA!

Don't worry X Box users you get your own date later this year. Or maybe you get two, we're in unchartered territory for how these rules work.

i can second that absolutely ideas can get picked up from the main board without much fanfare. I suggested a couple times to shift Objectives to the PT root menu and after a few weeks it happened. I can't prove the change was because of my post but that's the timeline.

JNT once said they look at BF and other socials too although obviously the chances your post will get read and considered are significantly less. And it goes without saying, but if you rant in one place and show up there on your best manners there's a chance your photo is already at reception if you know what I mean.

Okay I've managed to play a couple games now but I'm really confused about marking. Controls say it's the triangle button but at least half the time my players punch the ball away?? Surely I'm not that much of an idiot...
