Re: Afl canberra part 3

Nice try toss pot, everyone knows you are a trouble making f#ckwit. Best to keep your 'questions' to yourself. Hows your missus going?

'Hows your misses going?' stick to talking footy, maybe jump on one of those chat lines if your going to be a w##k#r

Re: Afl canberra part 3

Can someone please talk about football on this forum. This forum use to be informative and interesting reading about footy in the ACT until the cast from Days of our Lives took over with there bitching and moaning. Can anyone give us some predictions on who will be the dominant teams this year? Any exciting recruits? I'm tipping Eastlake to have a very successful year, even after replacing there passionate coach who shouldn't have been shown the door. I feel they have kept together most of there core group that they have had for the last 3-4 years, with being led around the park by the likes of Peter McGrath and Jason Duce that good times are ahead for the Demons.
Also does anyone have an opinion on the proposed Eastern States league and where does ACTAFL fit in with this?

THE future of the VFL competition and potentially some of its clubs is up in the air for 2011, as the AFL considers a major revamp of the second tier of the game in the eastern states.
The AFL has been discussing how the addition of Gold Coast and Greater Western Sydney will affect the second tier and reserves teams for AFL clubs, with the possible creation of an eastern seaboard competition - a de facto reserves competition for 14 of the eventual 18 clubs - among the options canvassed in discussions described as ''embryonic''.
Under that scenario, Gold Coast and GWS and possibly Sydney and the Brisbane Lions would play their reserves in an expanded eastern seaboard competition, the remaining clubs coming from either AFL reserves (such as Geelong and Collingwood) or AFL-affiliated VFL clubs; it is unclear how stand-alone VFL clubs would fare in that revamped competition, which could have a different name.
The future of the VFL teams - especially those that are not affiliated, like Port Melbourne and Frankston - is a sensitive topic, but the AFL stressed that ''the support and welfare'' of all second-tier clubs was important, even as it considered significant change.
The VFL clubs depend heavily on support from their AFL club affiliations, but it is unclear how many would retain those affiliations - AFL clubs can field stand-alone reserves - in the new landscape created by the expansion.
In a second option that has been mooted, a ''northern states league'' would be created in which Gold Coast, GWS, Brisbane and Sydney would field reserves teams and be joined by the strongest clubs from the ACT.
The third - and least radical, or minimalist option, under discussion - is an expansion of the Queensland state league, with Gold Coast fielding a reserves team in that league, where the Brisbane Lions have their seconds.
In this third scenario, Sydney's reserves would remain in the ACT league, and would be joined in that Canberra-based league by a GWS reserves side, while the VFL would remain more or less in its present form - and a Victorian-only competition.
The AFL confirmed that ''different configurations'' for second-tier competitions, including a greatly expanded VFL competition (what others call ''eastern seaboard''), were being examined. The AFL's head of game development, David Matthews, said yesterday that the potential changes were being driven by the introduction of two new teams into the AFL, which demanded two new second-tier, or reserves teams be placed somewhere.
The Gold Coast is fielding a team in the VFL this year, becoming that league's 14th club. But its plans for 2011, and that of GWS, are not yet settled.
''We continue to monitor second-tier arrangements across Australia. The entry of the Gold Coast into the VFL competition will be one to watch closely as the Greater Western Sydney team seeks to determine what its preferred option for next year is, as does Gold Coast again.
''So it may well lead to different configurations, including an expanded [Victorian-based] competition.''
On the future of VFL clubs, affiliated or not, in the second-tier competition, Matthews said: ''That's a matter the AFL Victoria board can continue to work with all the VFL clubs in the variety of models that there are to, you know, support the sustainability of the clubs.
''My read is that the VFL is excited about the prospect of having the Gold Coast. How they would receive additional clubs is something still to be determined … we're just really working with [Football Victoria boss] Peter Schwab and those guys on the scenarios.
''Whilst these scenarios will inevitably get debated, the support and welfare of existing clubs in any of these competitions is important.''
Matthews added: ''It would be a matter for AFL Victoria to determine who they admit into a competition. But if other clubs in NSW and Queensland sought entry into that current competition, then the name, the configuration, other things, are things to debate.
''At the present time the second-tier issues are really about where do the Gold Coast get their second-tier needs met, where do Greater Western Sydney get theirs met, and are the Lions and Swans currently comfortable - how does all that play into the ongoing evolution of the VFL alignments?
''There's no point being too specific at the moment.''

Re: Afl canberra part 3

What was the story with davison at Belco? I never anything positive about the bloke, but he must have had some idea given his previous experiences.

Also isn;t Shirley an assistant coach with the Tricklers, if so, isn't he supposed to be giving his 2 bobs worth in how they are coached? I'm sure he's getting payed plenty to have his say.

I think Eastlake and Qbn will defo be improvers in 2010, Neely has to be a big get for QBN I think, and Eastlake do still have a srong list and have under acheived in recent seasons.

Hopefully AFLCanberra are doing everything they can to attract GWS to field their 2's in our comp, otherwise it could be curtains for the comp as we know it.

Re: Afl canberra part 3

Sydney Reserves are the side everyone needs to be worried about this season. If they remain relatively uninjured, watch out!

Re: Afl canberra part 3

Surprised he wasnt stretching on the other side of the ground, away from the group.

Re: Afl canberra part 3

Sounds like jealousy to me.

not jealousy. big z tried to stir things up at belco and now qybn. not worth even replying to him. I watched someone training at harman navy base tonight, not sure who it was, but they looked ok

Re: Afl canberra part 3

Nah nah just saying what everyone thinks, everyone knows that Neely is selfish and arrogant, ask him how many premierships he has won and i bet he wouldnt know but if you asked him how many best and fairest he has won he could tell you that right away.
I recall a game last year at Lavington where he turned up late so the coach did the team thing and started him on the bench, 5 mins into the first quarter the coach said Bill your going on, Neely sat there for another 15mins and refused to go on, finaly he went on and ran straight to the forward pocket and didnt move for the rest of the day.
Old mate Billy Neely.....

Re: Afl canberra part 3

Regardless of anyones opinions of Billy Neely the person, there is no denying that the lad can play football and will be a huge bonus to the Qbn Tigers on the field this season.

If....and I say if there are any issues on/off the field, the staff at Qbn will deal with it appropriately.

Re: Afl canberra part 3

Did he get dropped the next week for being undisciplined or did the club accept the behaviour because he was their "Gun" player

The club played him the next week, im not saying he isnt a gun player because he is, i just think the way he goes about things isn't team orientated.

Yet.. He consistently wins the Team's highest individual award. Maybe he just goes about his business a little differently to the rest of the team because he is a perfectionist? Who knows what he thinks when he plays?

I think we will all agree that he is a bonus for any team that he plays for and when he's on the opposition team.. we all bag him... Myself included. Sorry Billy.. but you were playing for Ainslie, our sworn enemies.:D

Re: Afl canberra part 3

has anyone got any results from the practice games on the weekend and who the good players were?...

Eastlake v Albury
Ainslie v Nth Albury??
Belco v East Coast

Was there any other games??

Re: Afl canberra part 3

Does anyone know what trial games are on this weekend ?. Heard also the League is on the lookout for yet another GM - is that the go

Tigers playing Tuggers in 1sts and 18s and Harman Div 3 in Ressies.

Not sure about the GM statement tho, will try and find out this w/e; would be a hard gig for sure.. everyone is quick to bag but not too many keen to provide workable solutions. Having never operated at that level, I'm not sure any solutions I can think of would work either.. the biggest battle appears to be getting all the clubs on side and working in the same direction!:(

Re: Afl canberra part 3

Your rumor is correct FM.. Unfortunately we have lost another GM.. Sad to see you leave Rowan, good luck with your new job mate.

Tigers beat Tuggers in 1st grade by about 3 goals but were made to look ordinary at times by the Hawks who will surprise many this year. The game started fairly slowly with both teams resting big name players and blooding some youngsters. Hawks took a small lead into half time and then kicked the first 2 goals of the 2nd half to rattle a few Tigers players into life.

As the game wore on some of the Tigers more experienced players started to work in to the game and by about the 10 minute mark of the 3rd quarter, the Tigers were seemingly in control after slotting home 5 in quick succession. There weren't many highlights after 3/4 time but overall I would think reasonably encouraging for both clubs. Fenivesy was probably best for the Hawks, tried hard all day and the Tigers probably had a couple of players taking the honors. Jabornik rucked well all day without changing, Mitch Daniher worked in to the game well, Kavvy looked unstoppable when the ball was delivered well into the fwd line and Brett Fruend made the most of his opportunities. There were no big name players down back for the Tigers but young blokes stood up well after an initial testing time during the 2nd quarter - Tim Cooke, Tom Hollis, Liam Wilkinson, Swanny and Jimmy.

Exciting signs for the Tigers supporters were the two new on ballers working well off each other and showing all that when the pressure is on, experience counts for a lot in decision making and execution... :thumbsu::thumbsu:

Re: Afl canberra part 3

Forgot to add.. Good Luck to my old mate Glenn Gormon, don't let it consume you mate. It is after all, only a game... Have a talk to Eckers, he would work well in your set up if he's not with Belco for another year..
