Not keen on Treloar either now. We can get two decent players with 2 first rounders.
This years first with maybe a swap of picks aswell for motlop.
Next years first for someone like aish/weller or even stef martin (apparently not happy)

No way would I trade a first round pick for a 28 year old Martin

This is gonna be hilarious for teams that rapidly improve/decline. For example, if this rule was introduced last year Port might've traded away a future pick thinking it would only be pick 16-18. But then they collapse down the ladder and they end up coughing up pick 10 instead.

Or someone might trade for the Dogs future pick, thinking they are a bottom 4 lock, and then they surge up the ladder and the other team only gets pick 10-14.

Weller might be worth this years first but not next years. Big difference possibly

All clubs will be allowed to trade future draft picks in this year's trade period after the AFL Commission approved the move at a meeting on Tuesday.

The decision was ratified by the commission, which was understood to be persuaded by the need to introduce more mechanisms to help lowly clubs rebuild more quickly.

Make no mistake, this result is in part of the hard work from Brendan and co at the club. huge result for us.

If we target Treloar we are going for it in the next couple years. I think we have cap room for both Motlop and Treloar.

by that comment i gather it means this will now make us fairly active in the trade period according to your info?

I'll answer this.

I have mentioned as early as the start of this year, we were angling to get this pushed through, as it will allow us some flexibility to speed up our ability to acquire elite talent. So a simple answer to your question is yes. However, it does not mean we will start trading 2 first draft picks at the first drop of a hat. What it will allow us to do is be more creative and strategic in our offers so we are no longer out bid so often due to not having the cattle thats deemed worth to trade..the Adams example is perfect to highlight it. We did not have a Shaw type but if we had our first pick and say next years second rounder to offer, it may have helped get it over the line.

You would want to be pretty confident in your football department / list management team. Whilst it provides an opportunity to broaden out options with respect to trading, it also opens up the potential for teams who either think they are closer than they really are or are impatient to "sell the farm".

This could (and will) end in tears if (when) someone gets it very wrong.
