They've gone to town tonight analysing the Crows, all very favourable.

We rank highly in all the indicators they looked at, contested ball, scoring from inside 50s, defence, scoring from turnovers, speed of moving the ball.

One interesting piece of footage which didn't do us any favors is our blockage work in the clearances. They showed Vince, Porps, Danger blocking for Thommo as they discussed us with Eade, and asked if they would look at that for next week:eek: Even went as far as to question Eade if he would raise it with the umpires.

What it did show is how much work they've done in the clearances, another huge tick to Sando.

It was interesting to see there was several different combinations of players involved, and different techniques used. Made me think again of Geelong clearing paths for Ablett...

Re: AFL 360 Analysis on the Crows

Amazing stat they talked about:

We are #1 for contested ball with a +174 differential vs our opponents (approximately, i forgot exact number)..

2nd place is Essendon on (approx) +72..

100 in front of 2nd place, that's ridiculous..

Usually most analysis would be positive when you sit 7-1. Those stats were pretty amazing though, particularly the ruck/rover stats I thought. I knew Jacobs was playing well didn't realise he was playing that well though.

Re: AFL 360 Analysis on the Crows

I found the most impressive stat was that our defence is #2 for conceding least amount of goals per inside 50.

This is a massive one IMO, the ability to score from limited opportunities is so important, especially come finals times as teams just don't allow you too many chances. This was always one of Craigy's biggest failings, creating a forward line/structure that made the most of our inside 50's. We never seemed to have too much trouble getting the ball into our F50, but scoring was another thing.

Sando's ability to use and make the likes Petrenko, Callinan, Wright, Porplyzia and Johncock, even Vince and I suspect Douglas, into a devastating team of small forwards, who provide differing levels of midfield relief has been telling.

If one looks back at the GF's over the past 15 or so years it is so important to have a number of midfielder forwards who can go forward and make the most of half opportunities. If we do make it to finals and are to succeed, it won't be Walker or Tippett kicking 5 or 6 goals that will win us games, chances are they just wont do that, it will be Callinan and Vince chipping in for 3 each, Petrenko and Johncock kicking 2 each and then the likes of Douglas, Wright and Dangerfield chipping.

Having said that Walker is the type of forward who would kick a bag on GF day, as he doesn't rely on marks to kick the majority of his goals, all he needs is a couple of half chances off the deck and suddenly he's got 3 or 4 goals.

Yep :thumbsu:

Also #2 for scores per I50 entry.

Given that we're smashing contested ball in the midfield this makes us tough to beat. Hope it continues.

The one thing that sticks in my mind as a clear indicator of Craigism, is our chipping of the ball around just outside the 50m line, looking for a good entry. Sometimes it worked.

I don't think I've seen that at all with Sando. Usually the ball is launched in deep from a player who is running through the middle.

(AFL Insider video) Adelaide Crows are kings of contested footy

FOX FOOTY analyst David King has taken a close look at how Adelaide have risen up the ladder under new coach Brenton Sanderson.

For King, there's one standout factor.

"They're tough. That's the one thing we know," he told AFL Insider on Tuesday night.

The Crows, second on the ladder with a 7-1 record, are the runaway leaders in contested possessions in the first two months of the season with a +179 differential.
Essendon (+71) are a distant second.
