AFL Live 2

I don't take much from screenshots in terms of gameplay, so lets not infer anything from them in that regard, and gameplay is king - we'd need to see a gameplay camera to have more of a clue (the fullback camera doesn't count :) )

The graphics are where I was told they would be, not great but not the worst (for the worst checkout Ashes 2013 :p)

Well said, but I'm more on the lines of asking if there's anything that surprised you in these screenshots? For example, "Oh, I would have never of thought of doing that", type thing. Or, "I would have done it this way". Or is it just what you expected? Personally, there are definitely things they changed in it that I am really existed to see in game play footage.

But they never said they were "developing" it. They are making it, just not internally, as Ross put it.

To be honest WW have earned back some respect from me atleast graphics wise it looks sort of half way between Wii and RLL2 especially with the lighting which I hope we see some passing day to night effects. Next is gameplay and the screenshots seem like they've taken aspects of Live 1 such as the set shot system but if it plays like Live 1 I'll be relatively happy I mean it's WW for god sakes we should be happy if the players aren't running through honey.

To be honest I actually think it looks quite good from what I've seen in the screens, of course the game play is the key thing in the end. I'm just excited a new game is on its way. We all know Ross would have killed this one and made us his bitches for life with how good it was. But this is what we get for now so maybe we should just stop being so picky and wait to cast judgement on this game until we've all got it.
I went and pre ordered it yesterday. Fingers crossed everyone we've been waiting for a decent AFL game with a career mode for years!!

They've differently come along way since AFL Challenge. They have my blessing if they can pull this off.

Graphics is not the be all and end all anyway.

Gameplay is king.
When it's blatantly the AFL Wii engine, then we should be worried, because we know gameplay won't be good.

I'm still glass half full on this....but at-least I haven't emptied it on the floor yet :)

Why are you being so pessimistic dude? I know you're like a gaming king but wait it out a bit.

Because it will be shit.

There is no chance in hell that WW will be building a new engine from the ground up.

It will be a tweaked version.

You can put all the lipstick you want on a pig.

Its still a pig.

Because it's the Wii engine for christ's sake!

It's a cheap port that looks worse than the first AFL Live, a 2 year old game.

What is there to be optimistic about? I want a game that's good, not a cheap, shitty port of a shitty game.

lol, let's just hope the game play changes your mind ;)

Oooooooo boy, wowee

Screenys look shithouse, but more worrying is how similar they are to the wicked witch version, and i'm not sure that they have ever made a game that wasnt a shovelware piece of trash.

I dont pretend to know anything about how WW operates, but they either have no talent, don't care and just do the bare minimum to forfill their contract, or are repeatedly put in situations where they are under reasourced for their projects. Either way them being handed the licence is an absolute shame.

Would love to be proved wrong, but i'm not holding my breath.

So we should all wait until we've potentially wasted our money to cast judgement on an obvious cash-grab game? Not all of us like rushing into our purchases, and there is such a thing as constructive criticism (other people have been more constructive than myself, I'll admit that). I won't be pre-ordering or purchasing until I've seen that it plays well, which it most likely won't. I pre-ordered AFL Live because it was an obvious improvement from past titles. AFL Live 2 is a few steps in the wrong direction judging from these early screenshots; e.g. It looks like the crappy Wii game.

(Source: I played the crappy Wii game and it was crap).

Not that I've played the Wii game but those screenshots look a asthetically superior to AFL Live. Was AFL Wii asthetically superior to AFL live? (I doubt it). If not I doubt it's a simple port of the Wii game.

Indeed, let's.

But the amount of things that would have to be changed from the Wii version in order to bring it in line with what AFL Live was, would be enormous. On top of that to do that and improve on AFL Live's formula...now we're talking an impossibility. Especially when there's what I am going to assume a maximum of 18 months development time on the game, which is not enough to do what would need to be done.

It's the resolution more than the aesthetics.

People mention how players are recognisable, they were recognisable in the Wii version too, it just looked like shit.

Just looking at the resolution, jaggies, draw distance, stadium quality, there's a lot wrong with this versions graphics.

The lighting in one picture is better, otherwise, nothing more has been improved upon at all.

The HUD being the exact same is also incredibly lazy.

Anybody else curious about the mechanics of the "15 year career mode allowing fans to manage their players and their team all the way from the TAC Cup through the Peter Jackson VFL and into the Toyota AFL Premiership Season"? New territory for an AFL game but I interpret that as:
  • You select a team, play a few games through the TAC cup that will unlock certain stats on young players to inform your decision in the draft
  • Make your selections in the draft, go through delistings/free agency et cetera
  • Play through the AFL season with the option of playing VFL games throughout the season to gain xp for your young players that haven't broken through yet (similar deal with the training drills)
  • Repeat the process for up to 15 seasons
Also, I'm assuming that the "over 200 realistically modelled players" means that over 200 have actually been designed to look like players, while the remainder are blank face crash test dummies. Because if you're having 3 tiers of competition there's gonna be a hell of a lot more than 200 players required.
Thoughts?

haha well coming from the most impatient person in the world....(myself) the answer to your question would be a yes. and you can always cancel a pre order if you play it in store like the last time, that's why i only put the minimum deposit down. I played the last one in store with Ross and was so blown away with what he'd done i bowed like he was a god haha. all i will say is even if its not brilliant I'll still enjoy it because i love playing AFL games... and let's hope that us Geelong supporters have only got one **** up to bitch about come years end, (the game) and not something horrible like a loss to hawthorn in a grand final haha :P

I would hate to think that will happen. Too much for me to handle!

Thank God we finally have some screenshots. Amazingly they look pretty good. I don't understand why people are saying the game is not good with graphics, it all depends on gameplay. Whoever made this has done a terrific job. Big in the games developing world is difficult in trying to complete and create a video game. I have a software of my own to create video games and seriously I won't be able to make a game like this at all. All credit to whoever made it. It looks great.

I have viewed the images in fairly good detail on http://www.trueachievements.com/n13999/new-afl-live-2-screenshots.htm this is what I feel.

Image of st.kilda and gas: The graphic straight away look amazing and even better than the previous AFL Live game.

Image of kangaroos and essendon: This to me looks like a really go shot of the game. The only problem is it seems to good of quality being able to see a few pixels between the jersey and the players skin.

Image of bulldogs and collingwood: It looks obvious they have used the both big ant and wicked witches games to try and create their own. There looks like there is an option to select crowd size.

Chris Judd: I don't see how any one will be ma on how this looks. It looks great. Whoever made this got his head sculpted to perfection :p

Sydney and Kangaroos image: Definitely looks like a great game. It seems like they have used everything from AFL Live 1. The feeling I get from this is that it seems to be like the controls of AFL Live are implemented into AFL Live 2. This actually makes it a good made to me.

Other images just speak for it self, other than the one of symonds stadium. The graphics on that look horrible.

Over all looks like a really good game. They have taken the areas of Wicked Witches AFL Wii and Big Ants AFL Live 2 and squished them together to make a reasonable looking game. Top Class.

Now all thats needed... Me want now!

Who is they? This is obviously being developed by Wicked Witch.

Ah so you're the PR guy Tru Blu sent over here to try quell the mob?

I just want to point out that Dota 2 and Half life 2 are both built from the same "engine".

Games can be dramatically different under the same engine.
