Out: Dawes, Wood, Sinclair, Seedsman (if Maxy is fit only)

In: Paine, Jolly, Krak, Maxy (if fit)

I like Seedsman but probably still a preseason away from being best 22.

Gameplan going forward should be:

1) kick to Cloke deep in forward line

2) press up to forward fifty

3) Cloke marks or spills crumbs to small, agile forwards

4) Repeat

Simple I know but I think we need to go back to the basics.
3) Should be: Cloke marks or spills crumbs to small, agile forwards OR gets double/triple teamed and opposition rebounds.
If Cloke is one on one then he should win the contest even then he needs a good delivery which hasn't been the case lately. If our delivery into our forward half is more effective then I think it will help solve a few issues. At the moment, poor delivery isn't helping Cloke at all.
We also need to work on a more effective and efficient way to exit our defensive 50, it's ridiculous how we can get so locked up in the defensive half whereas, opposition sides clear the ball out of our forward half quite easily at times. But the latter depends on how the players are playing, the former seems to be an inherent issue we've had all season.

We can't win finals without a fit jolly! Therefor he needs to be rested against essendon to ensure he's %100 fit for finals.

I understand your reasoning but Jolly will play. He is a machine and just wants to get out there.

Out: Wellingham (inj), Wood, Dawes, Seedsman.
In: Maxwell (if fit), Jolly, Ceglar/Witts, Krakouer.

Seedsman unlucky, but needs another pre-season.

Sinclair as sub. Give Krakouer around 3 quarters of footy and sub in Sinkers. Krak needs game time before finals and being a sub won't really help.

If Maxwell's not fit, bring in Paine and use Goldsack as a hole plugger down back or on the wing instead of third tall. Keep Paine as the main tall target deep and let Cloke move up and around the ground.

I assumed we were more or less resting Jolly last night so he'd be right for the finals. He has to come back this week. Seeing Krakouer out there again should get all of us, and hopefully his teammates, excited again. There's no way both Cloke and Dawes would be dropped, but after wanting them to stick with Dawes all year, I've finally decided I'd let him go. Paine would be the obvious replacement as a key forward, but that leaves the backup ruckman spot vacant. I just don't think they'd be prepared to bring in Ceglar or Witts now, but I'd love to see them be bold with someone.

I can't see us losing to Essendon, and Hawthorn will surely be too good for West Coast. From there, who knows? There's been way too much doom and gloom, way too many people (especially other supporters) prepared to write us off already. We still have more talent than pretty much anyone, and there's still time (just) to turn things around.

who helps Jolly in the ruck?

If Dawes is dropped then we have to bring in one of Ceglar or Witts.

fine fine, only coz its you jmac

do i get to keep paine or ceglar?

Pick both.

Send goldsack to defence. Leave Maxwell out for another week to get him cherry ripe for the finals and give us a chance to see both Cegs and Paine.

Ceglar to play high half forward.
Cloke to play deep in the goal sqaure.
Paine to roam around forward 50. MUST be defensively minded though ALA goldsack.

Why would we drop Cloke and/or Dawes???

If they're carrying niggles and need a rest, then fair enough.

But if it's about confidence, how are they going to get that by sitting on the sidelines in a game against Essendon? There is no VFL game for them to play in this week.

Or is it being proposed that we simply drop Cloke and/or Dawes for the whole rest of the season? And instead we carry our finals forward prospects on the shoulders of a first year player who has just returned to the VFL after a month out with injury (Paine)? And / or a player who is yet to debut (Ceglar)?

Dawes and Cloke have been playing badly, but we really have to cross our fingers and press our thumbs that they come good. Sure, that's risky and frustrating - but it's far less risky than bringing junior players into the finals team.

You dont win finals on hope. You need to make things happen.
We've given Dawes 20 weeks to turn things around and he hasnt fired a shot.
Time to stop this fanciful thinking that its just going to magically turn around. It wont!
Time for plan B - unleash Paine!

and Ceglar or Witts.

Drop Dawes for the rest of the season. Definitely not Cloke. It would be a risk to go in with Paine/Ceglar but Dawes is doing so badly that almost anyone could do more. Paine did miss several weeks, before that he kicked 5 I think, he's come back into the side and done well again this week. We have to do something, basically, and again I've wanted them to stick with Dawes all year, just assuming he'd come good.

Collingwood have to play their best side. No point playing Witts, Ceglar or whoever, because they’ll be taking game time away from players that need to build confidence.

Leave Maxwell out – get him 100%. Sinclair omitted. Bring Clarke in for the Stanton match up. Krakouer has to come in. And Jolly is a must (if fit) – If not, play Wood again!

On match-ups: Tarrant on Crameri, Reid on Gumbleton and Brown on Hurly. Free up Shaw and play him up the ground. Leave Johnson for the half-back role.
B: O’Brien – Brown – Tarrant
HB: Johnson – Reid – Toovey
C: Sidebottom – Beams – Wellingham
HF: Didak – Cloke – D. Thomas
F: Fasolo – Dawes – Goldsack
FL: Jolly – S. Pendlebury – Swan
INT: Blair – Krakouer - Clarke – Shaw

I'm so sick of reading the unintelligent rubbish that you write on almost every thread in this forum Dave!
You have a lot to say for a bloke that clearly has no football brain what so ever.

Yes it is an opinion forum but it is beyond beggars belief that you are still able to function on here with some of the negative Collingwood bashing stuff that you right.

You should be made to submit everything you wish to post before you do for mod approval.

Agree with all that except the Clarke bit. I think Clarke in September is a massive risk.

Personally I'd retain Wood and play BOTH Wood and Jolly. Yes we lose flexibility but I think Dawes needs a break from ruckwork, and if we want to compete in the ruck, we need two ruckmen. Hopefully this give Jolls the chance to kick some goals.

If you look at the likely scenario it may go like this

Rd 23: v Essendon W
Finish 4th (expect Hawks to beat West Coast at the MCG). If not, it means a knock out final V Fremantle at the 'G which puts us right back in to week 2 anyway, we just miss the home final in Wk 2.

Finals Wk 1: v Hawthorn L
Finals Wk 2: v West Coast/Fremantle at MCG W
Finals Wk 3: v Adelaide or Sydney W
Finals Wk 4: v Hawthorn ??

Now I don't think that's even optimistic, actually realistic. OK maybe optimistic about the prelim.

As long as we get back into 4th spot this week I'll stay quite optimistic. Hawthorn are obviously a big worry, but not unbeatable. Our recent record against Adelaide and Sydney is so good that we would be confident enough against them. That brilliant win in Sydney (without Swan and with Thomas injured) wasn't that long ago. There must be a chance we can get that sort of form back, hopefully this year!

Essendon wont be trying next week, they have well and truly raised the white flag and will be looking to 2013, hopefully hirdy plays a few kids.

I reckon we will give them a belting
