Round 11 Results
SHARKS STUN DRAGONS FOR FIRST WIN OF THE SEASON
Gippsland Sharks 1312 defeat Ballarat Dragons 1245

The Gippsland Sharks have broken through for their first win of the 2018 season, upsetting 10th placed Ballarat in a tight encounter. The Dragons had four players reach centuries to Gippsland's one but the Sharks had a far better middle range of players, with ten players scoring from 70 to 100 compared to Ballarat's three. Max Gawn collected best on ground honours with 141 for the Sharks, with Tom Mitchell racking up 145 in a losing side. The win will be a huge confidence boost to Sharks coach Continstar , lifting them from the ubiquity of being a losing team with just 5 games left to play, whilst the Dragons' loss, which now has them in 11th with a 3-7 record, has made a finals berth even more unlikely for fightingfury_88 's men.

Media Votes: 5 Max Gawn (Gipps), 4 Tom Mitchell (Ball), 3 Luke McDonald (Ball), 2 Jack Macrae (Ball), 1 Reece Conca (Ball)

MELBOURNE TRIUMPH IN THE GAME OF THE YEAR
West Coast 1338 defeated by Melbourne 1339

Last fortnight, we pencilled this in as a huge clash in the context of the season and it did not live down the hype, with Melbourne triumphing by a solitary point in one of the greatest home and away games we have ever seen in the AFLTM. West Coast were able to restrict the recently high scoring Melbourne but weren't able to outscore them, with Dayne Beams' 139 the standout performance for Melbourne alongside Lachlan Hunter and Tom Bellchambers. For West Coast, Josh Kennedy and Lachie Whitfield reached centuries but it wasn't quite enough in the thrilling contest. Melbourne's win has propelled them to a 7-3 record and solidified their position of 4th, whilst West Coast has now dropped away from the leading pack and sit in 3rd, needing a win to keep Melbourne, Geelong and Wagga Wagga at bay.

Media Votes: 5 Dayne Beams (Melb), 4 Josh Kennedy (WCE), 3 Lachlan Hunter (Melb), 2 Tom Bellchambers (Melb), 1 Lachie Whitfield (WCE)

WARTHOGS DOWN SOUTHERNERS IN LOW SCORING AFFAIR
Dragon Island Southerners 1059 defeated by Wagga Wagga Warthogs 1262

It wasn't pretty, but the Warthogs have continued their march to August with a low scoring win over the hapless and seemingly coachless Dragon Island. Gee Dub 's side were led by the surprise packet Tom Sheridan (100), with strong contributions from David Swallow, Sebastian Ross and Sam Gibson, whilst the Southerners had just four players score 80 as they struggled to reach 1000. After starting the competition with a 3-0 record, they have lost the last 7 games in a row and sit in 14th, whilst the Warthogs sit in a comfortable 6th with a 2 game buffer from the bottom eight.

Media Votes: 5 Tom Sheridan (WWW), 4 David Swallow (WWW), 3 Seb Ross (WWW), 2 Sam Gibson (WWW), 1 Shaun Grigg (WWW)

ST KILDA HOLD OFF VALIANT HORNETS
St Kilda Titans 1431 defeated Harbour City Hornets 1394

The Titans' last two wins have been far from convincing but the bottom line is that the wins continue to roll in, with their narrow win over the Hornets their ninth for the season. The ever present Devon Smith top scored for the Titans with 129, assisted by centuries from Scott Pendlebury and Andrew Gaff, whilst Harbour City came close to an upset thanks to strong performances from their young midfield brigade, including Matt Crouch, Jack Newnes, Alex Neal-Bullen and Isaac Heeney. ShaunDuggan 's team is now firmly challenging for the minor premiership with Gold Coast, although they will need to pick up their scores in the last 5 rounds. Meanwhile, the Hornets loss leaves them stranded in 7th with a 6-4 record, with a game buffer below and above them.

Media Votes: 5 Devon Smith (StK), 4 Matt Crouch (HCH), 3 Jack Newnes (HCH), 2 Scott Pendlebury (StK), 1 Alex Neal-Bullen (HCH)

GEELONG POWER TO BIG WIN OVER THE BEARS
Geelong 1669 defeated Brisbane Bears 1319

Geelong have registered their highest score of 2018 so far on their way to a 350 point drubbing of the Brisbane Bears, with the reigning premiers punishing their last two opponents as they make a push for the top four. The comprehensive team performance saw four centuries, including Joel Selwood's 136 and Brodie Grundy's 131, as well as a further nine players scoring between 88 and 100 and no players scoring less than 50. For the Bears, Tom Phillips had a standout game scoring 143 along with Steele Sidebottom's 131 but the quality dropped from there, with the vast majority of players scoring between 50 and 80. Geelong have retained 5th position on the ladder, with the focus on overtaking Melbourne's point tally in order to jump into 4th. Meanwhile the Bears missed out on a prime opportunity to move into the top 8, remaining in 9th with an inferior points tally to 8th placed Western Vultures.

Media Votes: 5 Joel Selwood (Geel), 4 Brodie Grundy (Geel), 3 Jack Sinclair (Geel), 2 Tom Phillips (Bris), 1 Steele Sidebottom (Bris)

STINGRAYS TOO STRONG FOR LACKLUSTRE LIONS
Adelaide Lions 1164 defeated by Safety Bay Stingrays 1408

The finals window remains slightly ajar for the Safety Bay Stingrays after a comprehensive win over the Adelaide Lions this weekend. peterss 's side bounced back from two consecutive losses with the 244 point victory, led by Sam Menegola (125) and Tim Membrey (120), and the advantage lay in their depth, with 17 players scoring at least 50 compared to Adelaide's 12. The Lions also had a 0 score as well as an early injury to Jake Lever but in the end finish well behind the Stingrays despite a great individual performance from Angus Brayshaw. Safety Bay's win has seen them jump from 14th to 12th, 2 games behind 8th, whilst Adelaide Lions drop a position as a result and will need a quick turnaround to stay in the hunt.

Media Votes: 5 Sam Menegola (SBS), 4 Tim Membrey (SBS), 3 Angus Brayshaw (Adel), 2 Liam Shiels (SBS), 1 Jayden Short (SBS)

THUNDER WIN CRUCIAL GAME OVER VULTURES
Western Vultures 1361 defeated by NT Thunder 1512

The up and down Thunder have pulled off one of the upsets of the round, defeating 7th placed Western Vultures by 151 points in a crucial match. The Thunder had a number of solid contributors across the board, led by club legend Gary Ablett's 119, and their depth showed with just one sub-50 score, compared to the Vultures' five. Western's top end talent was impressive, with five centurions, but those bottom end scores let them down and they miss out on a prime opportunity to cement their spot in the 8. Now, they sit just above Brisbane and the Thunder, who are in a good position to potentially make finals.

Media Votes: 5 Gary Ablett (NT), 4 Jesse Hogan (WV), 3 Shannon Hurn (NT), 2 Stephen Coniglio (NT), 1 Lachie Neale (WV)

TOP VS BOTTOM PROVIDES NO SURPRISES
Gold Coast Devils 1567 defeated Northern Reds 1165

League leaders and premiership favourites Gold Coast cruised to a comfortable victory over the still winless Northern Reds, furthering the divide between the best and worst teams in the AFLTM. Led by big scores from Bryce Gibbs (142), Tom McDonald (141) and Dayne Zorko (128), the Devils posted one of their higher scores for the season against a Reds team that has averaged just under 1200 points across the season. Northern had just one centurion in Josh Thomas (101) and had two scores of zero, undermining the side, but a win was almost never on the cards for what is now the only winless team in the competition. Gold Coast meanwhile continue to go neck and neck with St Kilda at the top of the table, with just one loss for the season, and have an 800 point lead in the tally.

Media Votes: 5 Bryce Gibbs (GCD), 4 Tom McDonald (GCD), 3 Dayne Zorko (GCD), 2 Shaun Higgins (GCD), 1 Jack Ziebell (GCD)

ALBURY-WODONGA RISE FROM SOUTHERNERS' ASHES

upload_2018-6-16_16-28-0.png
Crisis has been averted in the AFLTM after the insolvency of Dragon Island was immediately rectified by the addition of the Albury-Wodonga Galahs to the competition. The multi-state team, headed by new coach 3121 premiers, have bought out the Southerners' license and become the second mid-season team change after the Launceston-Northern Territory change.

3121 premiers takes over a team in free fall, with 7 consecutive losses after a 3-0 start. They will need to turn around their fortunes quickly, relying on the performances of players such as Charlie Cameron, Tom Rockliff, Callan Ward and Jack Darling.
