Former Australian fast bowler Alan Thomson has passed away.

He had a unique "windmill", wrong foot, bowling action.

He played 4 tests in 70-71 against England, but couldn't replicate his first-class success unfortunately.

He holds a couple of records - he took the first ever wicket in ODI's (3m 10s mark in video below) and he bowled the first ever ball in List A cricket in Australia.

He also umpired a number of VFL games in the early 70s (single umpire days).

Sad to hear that. As you said, he had an action that was unique and some very successful performances (49 wickets) in the 1969-70 domestic season saw his elevation to Test level in the 1970-71 Ashes series. Unfortunatey his form fell away and didn't play much 1st class cricket after that.

I was able to emulate Froggy's unique bowling style as a gimmick, but certainly never had the courage to try it in a game :)

He would have done if Ian Chappell hadn't kept dropping slips catches off him.
