The job he did tonight for us, amazed me, i for one have been a fan of toovey, they way he goes about his footy and tonight how if he had a clanger his 2nd and 3rd efforts are what counted. if every collingwood had that mindset we will go places!

Re: Up yours Toovey haters....

had a few toovey moments, but was solid. the conditions suit him and he was able to keep running right until the end. not a big fan of carrying him in the dry free flowing matches, but he was valuable tonight.

Re: Up yours Toovey haters....

Lets see him play a few good ones together before we start the circle jerk ok.
Thats not the point the point is that not many of the Toovey haters had faith in him that he could play a slid good game!

Re: Up yours Toovey haters....

Yea like toovey cause he is hard at it and got in there kept running and gave it a real shot and thats basically all u can ask of a player. Yeah his kicking is pretty shocking, but I seemed to notice he was handballing it off a fair bit to players near to him who could kick. Perhaps he was instructed too? or am i just imagining it?

Re: Up yours Toovey haters....

Agreed.

If you reckon he was good tonight, imagine how good he'd be IF he could kick.

His kicking has definitely improved mind you.

Was very happy with Toovs tonight, hope to see more games like that in the future. Who was his direct opponent?

Re: Up yours Toovey haters....

You've got to string them together , but I was amazed by his performance tonight. Still flaws , but he did plenty right.

He was tagging Travis Johnstone i believe. Did a great job too.

Re: Up yours Toovey haters....

I'm so sick of this "workmanlike" attitude some of our supporters have.

This is NOT good enough to win you games of football and ultimately premierships.

He was very average. He has poor skills and his decision making is mind-blowing. What genius running towards 50 kicks to Davis in the square 2v1?

He is very dispensible.

If you want to talk about hard running and second/third efforts, Toovey should watch the tape of young Barham. At least he is prepared to run hard both ways, hunt the ball and more importantly WIN his own ball.

This is why, IMO, he is no good for us going forward, particularly with better midfield prospects.

At least we can drop him next week for Heater.

Re: Up yours Toovey haters....

He was serviceable but needs to string a few more decent games together.

My god. Slam Toovey for his disposal tonight and then use Barham as an example. What were you watching. Barham showed plenty of endeavour but he slaughtered the ball continually. Toovey's job tonight was to sit on TJ and he more than adequately passed the test. Give some credit where its due FFS.

No way, he was - as a clearance/link-up midfielder - very good. His kicking is still awful when trying to spot up a target in the 50 arc (has he ever hit anyone on the chest?!?) but his close-in work was quick, efficient and superb.

He had a total of 2 clearances and when he had the ball he generally went long. I'm not saying he had a bad game though.

No good in just being a negator.

Sure, Barham butchered the footy but it was his ability to link, hunt and win his own ball that makes him a damaging run with player. From the match I saw, he spent alot of time on Luke Power and was exceptional.

Toovey may have just "sat" on TJ, however, he has never shown any ability to win plenty of ball and link.

I don't subscribe to "workmanlike" efforts. In the modern game, you need to do more or at least show a little more. He has done very little.

Re: Up yours Toovey haters....

Gone next week for Heath Shaw.

Sorry Toovs, but you're just not capable of hurting with your disposal.

Brilliant.

I'm still here. I won't jump up just yet & say those 4 words I desperately want to. If you didn't already know, I'm a MASSIVE Toovey fan, through thick & thin, I've stood up for him. Now, he's starting to come through with the goods.

This was one game where I couldn't find many faults of his during the game. Yes there were a few, but that happens to every player. He was great.

I'm surprised that anyone could sit here & bag him tonight. I thought there were much worse players out there on both teams than Toovey & I'm very proud of the way he & the team played.

This is just the begining for Toovey I think..... =)

Re: Up yours Toovey haters....

Some of you blokes are unreal! i dont really rate Toovey all that much either but i am not bias in my assesment of players in any given game.
Toovey not only did a sterling job on johnstone but he also ran the lines, was hard at it,his handball options smart and kicking not as bad as some would think, he played a damn good role for the team and deserves his spot if he can re produce that effort every week, well done Tooves and congrats on a great game.

He provided some great run tonight, and seems a little bit more assured out there this year.

I thought he was ordinary.

Yeah, he busts a gut, and sometimes he strings two, maybe three, plays of sheer competence. You start thinking "Maybe Mick and the Groovey Toovey crew are right".

It's a short lived experience though, because he will butcher it, or run into trouble with more ease than Didak. He's fast; but not off the mark. If he's inside, his slow start up means he needs to rely on football smarts, balance and quick thinking disposal; of which, he has none.

Had 18 touches and kept TJ to 13. Only 1 clanger according to the stats. I just think people are very quick to bag the bloke because its the popular thing to do without actually looking too closely at it. I watched him pretty closely tonight and he was bloody good. I concede that he's not the best kick in the side, but the conditions weren't the best either. He's never going to be silk but as far as the modern game is concerned, he gave us more run and carry than a few others tonight. I'd like to see him play the same sort of game on some mids of better quality, as I think TJ is a bit mentally weak and almost throws in the towel at times.

Swan, Barham and Thomas hurt us in general play more than Toovey did tonight but he cops the wrath again? judge players on an individual game not opinions or reputations please!
