Microsoft Reveals Live-Action Prequel To Alan Wake Starting Sunday

In a press release today, Microsoft revealed that they will be debuting a six-episode live-action prequel to the upcoming Remedy title, Alan Wake, exclusively on Xbox Live. The series is titled Bright Falls and will be premiering Sunday April 25th for Xbox Live Gold Members, on April 26th for non-Gold members, and on April 27th on BrightFalls.com.

The series is directed by Philip Van and there will be new episodes released each week until the launch of the game on May 18th in the US and May 14th in Europe. For more details check out the press release here and the latest feauturette on the game here.

Pretty interesting. I'll most likely give it a watch when I'm bored haha.

Yeah bought it yesterday from that seller, never had a problem with NTSC-J games.

Anyone seen they 'Bright Falls' episodes yet? 3 out so far, they're not too bad.

It will be Region Free from what I understand, however on occassions the HK sellers falsely claim it to be Region Free and when the game arrives, it is not.

Darksiders is an example, was advertised by the sellers as R/F, then when the sellers received their stock it was actually Region Locked

I may buy an XBox just for this game :(

Need more survival horror games...even if they're not really survival anymore :@ :@ :@ :@ :@

IGN Australia's review is up

http://au.xbox360.ign.com/articles/108/1087828p1.html

9.0 Presentation
Great setting with evocative art direction, engaging story. Pity about the advertising – the TV commercials in particular are jarring.

8.5 Graphics
The world looks great, but other areas show their age, such as lackluster facial animations and the differences between cut scenes and in-game graphics.

8.5 Sound
Great music at the end of each episode, and subtle use of music and effects throughout.

8.0 Gameplay
The use of light as a weapon is fantastic, but there’s not a great deal of variety in enemies. The Normal difficulty setting is tuned to be a little too easy as well.

7.0 Lasting Appeal
Ten or so hours for the first play through, but it’s a very linear game so there’s not that much incentive to do it again.

8.5
Great OVERALL
(out of 10)

HN have Arcades for $198 till the 16th i think it is.

Cheers mate.

Just got to work out if it's worth it though as I can't think of a lot of other XBox games that would be worth buying :/

That said I've got a PS3 and I can't say the whole 5 or so decent games of my collection currently warrant the purchase of that either :/

Eurogame review:

By comparison, Alan Wake is tired and derivative. Everything about it feels dated, from the linear level design to the red-green switch nonsense to the visual stylings (surely not even J Allard has attempted the hoodie-with-jacket combo since 2005). There are plenty of fancy cut-scenes, dramatic voiceovers and cinematic camera angles, but even when Alan Wake does a good job of pretending to be a film you just feel like you're watching a really bad film. That's particularly true when it comes to the ending - without spoiling anything, let's just say you're left thinking, "You mean I kick-started all those generators for that?"

All the same, there's a weekend's worth of fun here for action-adventure fans who aren't too bothered about innovative concepts and varied gameplay, and don't mind a lot of repetition. Alan Wake is an accessible, undemanding game with a neat combat mechanic and decent visuals. It's just not a very original game, it's certainly not an exceptional one, and it's a shame it wasn't ready a few years ago.

Lol, called it before I clicked on the thread. Somehow I just knew you were gonna make a post about the Eurogamer review because they gave it the lowest one haha.

Getting predictable :p.

And FYI (Took out all the reviewers with Xbox in the name):

Just saying, picking the lowest one and ignoring all the other ones doesn't make your point any stronger.

Eurogamer and Cam Shea are douches though, I personally never read much into their reviews.

I do wonder though if Remedy made the right move in going linear over the original sandbox design that Alan Wake had. Maybe they just couldn't find a good enough mix of sandbox while keeping it relatively scary/atmospheric (after all, how many sandbox horror games that are genuinely scary do we have?). Would've definitely been something original though, maybe more so than it has turned out. I want to know wtf the TV commercials are though, that seems strange (are they real ads or made up one's in the vein of Grindhouse?).

Reckon he firmed up a bit in the pantaloons region when he stumbled across that

Reported for cyber bullying. It was the only review I saw on GAF so I posted it.

Bahahaha cyber bullying, suggesting you got excited over a rubbish score a game you've been batting against?

Ok Kerrby, sure.

Carmon, you loved it. Highlighting particular parts, making the 7 oversized and bold....and tell me you didn't hang on metacritic waiting for someone to give it a bad review

Anyway, I'm not concerned with any review scores on this game, Survival Horror games are always divisive, love or hate and generally score middle of the road due to some low scores from people who clearly aren't into the genre

So you picked out the lowest score on metacritic and highlighted some of the criticisms. Why didn't you pick the review from the escapist who gave it a perfect score?

I could quite easily go get the reviews for Heavy Rain from Game Critics, Teletext game central, Bigpond GameArena, Edge Magazine, The SixthAxis, Games Radar and Destructoid and do the same.

I wasn't being serious.

New review:

NEW new review:

Bottom Line: A brilliantly told story, excellent voice acting, and an atmosphere so unnerving you'll sleep with the lights on for a month. If only it came with a bottle of instant amnesia so that you could play it for the first time more than once.

Recommendation: Unless you're allergic to excellent storytelling or have an unnatural fear of pine trees, play this immediately.

Score: 5/5

Works both ways I think.

Even if you're a young girl that adores Hannah Montana, or you're a parent looking for a good gift, do not purchase Hannah Montana: The Movie. It's a cheap, awkward, embarrassing attempt to cash in on the hype of the movie without adhering to any of the standards of modern rhythm/music games.

Score: 2.5/10

Disappointing indeed.:thumbsd:
