Who would win, if they came head to head when both in their boxing prime.

Tyson, the ultimate powerhouse brawler vs Ali, the ultimate in skillfull, masterful boxing.

Tyson for me, for Ali to win, he'd have to go the full 12 rounds, but Tyson may have him on the canvas by the 8th.

Yeah, I'd agree. Tyson was the most brutal, vicious fighter probably ever. If he landed a few early, Ali wouldnt last long.

Ali beat a much bigger version of Tyson in Foreman when he was past his best. He would destroy Iron Mike very easily in his prime much the same as he did to Sonny Liston.

Foreman was nowhere near as agressive as Tyson nor did he possess the combinations-Foreman relied mainly on heavy hitting. And to say that he would destroy Tyson easily is laughable.

Foreman's heavy hitting was legendary, Ali let Foreman hit him for 7 straight rounds.
Why is my statement laughable? Tyson would have been just another contender if he'd fought in the 70's. Ali beat Foreman, Frazier, Norton, Liston, Patterson etc. Who did Tyson beat? Larry Holmes and Michael Spinks were the only good boxers he beat and they were both past their prime. Tyson wasn't much better than Earnie Shavers, he just came along when the division was a shambles just like it is now.

Is this serious? Ali in his prime would massacre Tyson. As has been said he beat a bigger nastier version in Foreman when past his prime. People see the nice easy going Foreman of today and don't realise what a killing machine he was in the early 70's. Foreman was a monster. Ali also is on record as saying that it was the only time he was ever afraid in the ring.

Ali was the first Boxer that actually used his left hand to defend and block i think. Anyway i dunno, this is a hard question to answer, but id go with Tyson only because he is a animal and probably had better facilities for training i guess.

Both in their prime, well Tyson was the most devastating puncher I've seen.
Ali was the fastest I've seen ,he would have reach advantage and speed and height advantage. In his prime Tyson would not get close ,Ali was capable of moving and snapping fast punches for fifteen rounds. He would have studied and known every move Mike could make in the fight. He would know you can't let this guy get a good one in and he wouldn't. Mike is much harder than Smokin Joe. Ali would be the ultimate technition he would smother Mike when he moved in he would have Mikes hands tied and no where to go he could do this because he had the fastest hands and brain co-ordination ever. In his prime, we are talking about.Of course Mike Tyson could knock out a bull elephant if he landed one, we all know this ,but boxing is an art at it's top level, and Ali was a master and it was his job not to get hit and he never did in his PRIME (REMEMBER) only the English man got him when he was young.Henry Cooper I think. Nope, in his prime Ali would win, later on? well Mike had that massive punch, it would be a lucky one if he got it in.
Ali knew how to handle big, deadly, hard, killer boxers like Foreman and of course the frightening Sonny Liston. He was a one and only in boxing history.
It is silly to try and compare eras but Ali was on his own and I think he would also have taken Joe Louis out as well and easily.
PS don't listen to any rubbish from big George Foreman reckoning he was doped in the rumble in the jungle . He was mad and hungry till he ran out of steam from punching himself into exhaustion.

Ali by a country mile. Tyson is severely overrated.

For those who are saying Tyson would knock Ali out... noone put Ali down for the 10 count in his entire career, the man had an iron jaw. Hell, if he got up from that right hook that Frazier planted on him in madison square garden, im not sure anything could knock him out clean.

Ali beat bigger fighters, he beat fighters that could hit harder.

Tyson throughout his career on the other hand lost to the only real competition he had that could be considered great. Holyfield handled him more than once, and Lewis beat him easily. The sad thing about Tyson is, we'll never know how good he really was, because of how well Don King protected his investment, getting him fights with guys who didnt deserve to be in the ring with him.

No its your boxing knowledge that is laughable. What are you 12? Ali was light years, eons ahead of Tyson who was just another thug like liston who Ali dealt with easily before he even hit his prime. Liston, Foreman and Frazier would have made easy work of Tyson.

Calling Tyson "just another thug" proves your boxing knowledge is as laughable as anyones. Tyson could combo, Foreman couldnt, yet he had the punching power equal of Foreman at least. He was also biger and far, far meaner that Frazier. If Tyson managed to hit Ali in the head (no easy thing, of course, the man was lightning) he could hurt him enough and then actually back it up with quick punching. When Ali took shots, they were mostly body shots. Head shots were definitely capable of fazing him.

That and the fact Tyson obliterated anyone who came into his path in his prime. He was an agressive killing machine. Heavyweight boxers, themselves fearsome, were scared of him. The phrase "would you step into the ring for one round with Mike Tyson for a million bucks" didnt come from nowhere.
