theo ratliff is a over-rated defender.he often leaves his opponent to go for a block.i would move wallace to centre and insert garnett or Duncan.

he isnt a bad defender just not in the class of Garnett or duncan at the PF spot.Elton Brand is a fantastic defender too,i would have him ahead of ratliff.

Might be more to that though than just defense. Read something around the All-Star break where players were questioning the legality of his tactics. The discussion was based on whether he was a dirty player, shall try find it

An all defensive team is not legit unless it includes Vitaly Potapenko.

Hinrich is a good kid, but not even close to being the second best defensive PG in the league.

BTW Anyone that doesn't put Andrei Kirilenko in the first team, isn't serious.

AI plays the passing lanes well but is a weak 1 on 1 defender, although he did win the N.C.A.A defensive player of the year award at G-town. More for his high number of steals than lock-ups.

Mostly true, but i wouldnt say WEAK defender as such, not particularly a good defender, but more often than not is playing on people 6 inches taller than him.

Ray Allen doesn't like Bruce Bowen much :p

Bowen's style still bothering Allen

Pre-game rhetoric aside, the key matchup of Wednesday's Spurs-Seattle SuperSonics game at the SBC Center got turned on its head.

It was supposed to be about Bruce Bowen's dirty defense vs. Ray Allen's sweet shot. But Bowen, while frustrating Allen once again, made an equal impact at the offensive end.

Including an unchallenged 3-pointer at the buzzer, Allen outscored Bowen 21-14. But their matchup effectively was a push because Bowen was far more efficient, needing only seven shots to get his 14 while Allen took 19.

It is evident Bowen messes with Allen's head with a lock-down defensive approach Allen insists is dirty. There has been some nastiness between the two in the past, and Allen refused Wednesday to soften his assertion that Bowen crosses the line with aggressive defensive tactics.

When it was suggested to Allen that Bowen believes he just plays defense more vigorously than most, but keeps it clean, Allen disagreed.

"In his right mind, I know he doesn't believe that 100 percent," Allen said. "I agree with him he plays hard, but there's a lot of other stuff that's outside the realm of playing hard. We all see it. The referees see it, but sometimes they just ignore it, for whatever reason they have. We all see the things that toe the line of being dirty basketball.

"So whether he wants to think that or not is one thing, but we all know it and see it."

Allen said Bowen goes to further extremes than other players who have reputations for dirty tactics.

"Everybody used to say John Stockton was dirty, Karl Malone was dirty," Allen said. "They used to hold you when they would set screens and you always felt like you were getting screwed because you were getting held and you couldn't get over the screens.

"But that's not the issue here. It's the pushing in the back when you go to the hole. Or punching you in the stomach when you're dribbling. You know that's dirty basketball."

Bowen didn't know how to respond to Allen's assertions.

"Punch in the stomach?" he said, incredulous. "This is an All-Star who's being paid a lot of money to do his job and there's a reason why you're an All-Star: Because you're gifted and a lot more talented than other guys.

"When people hear statements like that they can do one of two things: Retaliate by saying something back to them and look like the smaller person. Or I could just let my play show for it, and that's what I choose to do."

By unofficial count, Allen made only 4 of 12 shots while Bowen had the defensive assignment on him.

Bowen also made all four of his foul shots. When you are a 55.7 percent free-throw shooter, this is significant.

"We understand that during the course of a lot of games if we just knocked down our free throws we'd get a few more victories," Bowen said. "No one goes up there trying to miss them, but I think it's just guys understanding that now we have even less room for error. Because of that there's a heightened awareness on the free throws tonight."
