NBA has announced the All-NBA Teams for 2001-2002. The first team is:

C: Shaquille O'Neal (LA Lakers)
F: Tracy McGrady (Orlando Magic)
F: Tim Duncan (San Antonio Spurs)
G: Jason Kidd (New Jersey Nets)
G: Kobe Bryant (LA Lakers)

Bryant and McGrady have been honoured with their first apperance in the first team. Kidd earned his fourth apperance. He is also the first Nets Player to recieve a first team apperance.

The second team is:

C: Dirk Nowitzki (Dallas Mavericks)
F: Kevin Garnett (Minnesota Timberwolves)
F: Chris Webber (Sacremento Kings)
G: Gary Payton (Seattle Supersonics)
G: Allen Iverson (Philadelphia 76'ers)

The third team is:

C: Dikembe Mutombo (Philadelphia 76'ers)
F: Ben Wallace (Detroit Pistons)
F: Jermaine O'Neal (Indiana Pacers)
G: Paul Pierce (Boston Celtics)
G: Steve Nash (Dallas Mavericks)

I don't have too many quarms about the selections, although I'd pick Garnett ahead of McGrady.

I've got no complaints with these teams. With the amount of people who vote it's always pretty accurate.

yeah... i would choose Garnett over McGrady but McGrady over Bryant. But still a very good team.

What the... McGrady over Bryant!!!! That leaves them a little top heavy doesn't it.

I haven't seen a great deal of McGrady, but what I have seen hasn't been that impressive. Everytime I've seen the Magic play, the entire team has been second rate, so I'm probably a little harsh. Still he doesn't play as well as he talks.
Bryant on the otherhand is progressing into a very fine PG. Still has a way to go, but is definitely in the top 3 or 4 in that position.

Devo - Kobe Bryant a PG?
Are you on something?

He plays shooting guard. He wouldn't be a very good PG at all. He can handle the ball, but as a decision maker... well put it this way, the only decision Kobe makes is "Should I shoot a fadeaway" or "should I take it to the hole."

Tracy McGrady on the other hand was an MVP candidate this year, taking an extremely average roster into the playoffs at 5th seed. I reckon Kobe should've been All-2nd and McGrady at SG in the All-First with probably Webber or Garnett at the other forward in the All-First.

Kobe gets love cuz he plays for the Lakers

Thank god for uncleswannies....cos the rest of you have lost it.

First off...why is Bryant in the 1st team? Kidd at PG was obvious, T-Mac at SG was also obvious...SF had to be either KG or Peirce. Peirce was badly overlooked, leading Boston to one of the best records in the East and i think he came in second on scoring havent checked. Duncan was a no brainer but why Shaq?

Is it just because he is Shaquille O'Neal? He instantly get 1st team selection. I thought he had a bit of a down year. I would have given the C spot to Wallace. Ben Wallace was absolutely awesome this season, he was the defensive player of the year, led the league in rebounding and blocks! The only thing Shaq really has on him is his 27ppg to 7ppg. Now i know thats a lot of points but im sick of the offensive, star player who gets lots of dunks..... getting all the credit. The Pistons can thank Ben Wallace for there success this year, nobody else. But Wallace finds himself shuffled to the third team????

You lead the league in blocks and rebounds and your the defensive player of the year yet you cant find a spot on the All NBA First Team.....travesty!

1st team should have been..

Kidd
McGrady
Pierce
Duncan
Wallace

And if the NBA can't live without Shaq on the 1st team just slot Wallace into SF and move Pierce to the second team. Thought they stuffed up the first team pretty badly. Shaq was suspect but deserving but Kobe should never have been considered. Second team yes but i would have given Pierce, KG, Payton and of course Wallace spots on the first team before Bryant.

Point Guard??

Devo....Kobe's a shooting guard. And even if you wanna consider him a PG?? He aint in the top 3 or 4 in that position. Nash, GP, Kidd, Marbury, Stockton, Miller, Franchise, Van Exel....

Kobe starts every game as the Lakers Point Guard, and has been doing a pretty good job of it. The way the Lakers play he interchanges with Fisher and Shaw at various stages in the game, so he isn't a true PG like Kidd or Stockton.
As for being in the top 3 or 4, he stats don't show it (438assist, 118steals and 223 turnovers), so you are probably right. If we could trade for one of the top PG...

I still he is one of the top 3 or 4 players in the league.

Because he is the most dominating player in the League. Simple. Even a moron could work that one out.

Shaq isn't the best player in the league, or even the best centre, but his size and mobility make him the most dominating and no coach or player has worked out how to nullify him yet.

Shaq is the best centre in the League and the most dominating player because there is no one close at the five spot. The competition he had a few years back (the likes of Hakeem -the best I've seen -, The Admiral, Ewing and Zo, are past it or in the case of the latter restricted by illness. There are signs of some youngsters coming through at last and Ming might (or might not) explode things.

Re the all star team:

I'd have gone for Pierce well ahead of Bryant, maybe even Payton as a two PG option. McGrady on this season performance walks in.

My selection:

PG - Kidd
SG - McGrady
SF - Pierce
PF - Duncan
C - O'Neal (Shaqille)

2nd Team:

PG - Payton
SG - Bryant
SF - Nowitski
PF - Garnett
C - Wallace

Harsh on Jermaine O'Neal.

PG - Nash
SG - Iverson
SF - Finley
PF - Webber
C - O'Neal (Jermaine)

I still he is one of the top 3 or 4 players in the league.

He is a lot like Mike but not as good...well no where near as good. The offence flows through him just like Chicago's offence flowed through Mike. But he is no PG.

3 or 4? Doubful....Kobe is very good but still has room for improvement and i think there are a few guys out there that still play better ball than Kobe....Shaq (not better, just dominant) Duncan, Kidd, T-Mac (amazing how good this kid is, younger than Kobe and even better!!) Garnett, Webber, Iverson.... a lot of good ballers.

Pfft...he isnt even that dominant anymore....for his size (he is freaking huge!!!) He should be bringing Wilt type rebound numbers, Hakeem/Mutombo in there prime type blocks numbers and could be scoring like Jordan in his prime.

Yet he settles for 27ppg, 10rpg and 2bpg. He aint that good.

Wallace had the better year. But the NBA doesnt have enough balls to award Wallace for his great season. I mean seriously how can you lead the league in blocks and rebounds, be named All Defensive Player of the Year and not make All NBA first team???

Got me buggered.

The offence goes through Kobe but hes no PG. The offence going through him means they pass him the ball and he shoots more or less.

As for Yao Ming? He won't explode things. He is so overhyped its not funny. He'll just be the next International stiff. Have you seen the guy? He's a beanpole? He wouldn't last 2 fouless minutes against Shaq.

Is he really skinny? I have never seen him play but i was led to believe that he was as thick as he was tall. Pity.

saw him play 2 games at the sydney olympics, and footage on tv and online...

upper body is kinda skinny... (not as skinny as shawn bradley)..
runs fast... soft touch... shoots well at the free throw line..

when i did see him play, the thing that disappointed me most was him taking more jump shots/hook shots instead of going in hard... but then again at the olympics, he was only 19 or so...

most of the reports are very positive... (pics there)

Cheers for that Coxon...he looks like an interesting prospect but still a little small. As Quentin Richardson of the Clippers said "Shaq would go, bang, bang, and then dunk on him....then talk bad about him" hehe

Also interesting is the politics...looks like the NBA wants Ming to go to New York or Chicago...places that has a big chinese population. West wasnt happy about it...seen as he is the GM of the Grizzlies and that is the last place the NBA wants him. Could we see them fix it? :D Cant wait till the balls drop. Hope Chicago get the number 1 pick....my Bulls would hopefully take him...nice frontcourt in years to come of Curry, Chandler and Ming. But were in desperate need of a PG so im not even sure we would take him.
