Hello all-
A lot of what I have to say has been modified from an e-mail message I got earlier from someone IN the NBA. I'm not at liberty to say whom, but it is someone. I have modified it to personalize it but kept the information the same.
As someone who has worked over in the USA I read through e-mails from various people (that I find myself still on the mailing lists of) and the obvious news articles about the NBA players possibly doing this all-star dunkathon for Haiti.
Shaq originated the idea but it's quickly taking off. What the NBA needs is to hear that the fans are fully behind the idea.
It may not be part of the regular All-Star dunk contest (which for legality purposes has already been filled, etc.) -- but this thing could be huge. Thus far LeBron, Tracy McGrady (believe it or not), Gerald Wallace, Josh Smith, Andre Iguodala and Amare Stoudemire have already nominated themselves as being a part of this "All-Star Dunkathon competition".
If you're interested in seeing this take place on All-Star Saturday night you can make a difference and making this idea become a reality. Simply e-mail the NBA and tell them that you're interested in the celebrity dunkathon.

Sometimes the stars of the NBA come up with these amazing ideas that would generate money for charity but they never see the time of day, not because the players involved are schmucks but the league office comes back with stupid feedback to them saying "We don't endorse this idea because it will take too much time and nobody is interested."
An example being back in the early 1990s when Shaq, Olajuwon, David Robinson, Ewing, Jordan and a couple of others wanted to host a pay-per-view one on one tournament to raise money for AIDS research). It never saw the light of day and a couple of years after the fact it got leaked that Olajuwon and Shaq wanted to play one-on-one on PPV.
Again, if you're interested in seeing this solely for the benefit of Haiti, please I implore you to e-mail the NBA.
