My view is that at most two spots are vulnerable as the
Lexus (Hotham Hcp) winner is gifted a spot (if it's an acceptor for the cup)
and potentially the Derby winner but only if it's Thinkin Big.

Meaning spots 23 in ballot order and even more so spot 24 in ballot order is very queasy.

Spot 23. Sir Charles Road
Spot 24. Zacada

These two horses' connections will be a touch nervous.

Listening to Greg Carpenter, chief handicapper, if Thinkin Big wins he WILL amend benchmark and Thinkin Big will be able to avail a spot in the Melbourne Cup.

Lock it in.

I so hope he wins too.

I've got him in a couple of multi's so I definitely hope he wins.

He’s my Derby tip, that’s for sure.
Him and Osborne Bulls are my best two tomorrow.

Good luck all.

Tosen Basil is now going to be a NON acceptor and hence non starter in the Melbourne Cup.

A Darren Weir galloper that was to be saddle cloth number 7.

Number 7 has only won the Melbourne Cup twice.

After 98 years with Baystone in 1958.
Then Lloyd Williams’ first success with the Tommy Smith trainer Just A Dash in 1981.

Who Shot Thebarman looks to now have 7.

Geez already looks like a race of few genuine winning chances and lots of ‘filler’
Sometimes horses have a way of running career best races OR translated they just plug on and stay finishing top ten whilst others tire badly.

Usually a race that throws an outside placegetter or first four.

NB: Nakeeta came 5th last year.

With Tosen Basil going to the wayside and there still being only two potential spots in play the shaky horses are:

23rd spot: Zacada

24th spot: Nakeeta

And Sole Impact is next in line and so on, but the Lexus winner assuming it's a Cup acceptor will push one out (Nakeeta); Thinkin Big if it wins the Derby will push one out (Zacada assuming Nakeeta is pushed out already).

Red verdon?
Part of the brigade being inspected again today.

Red Verdon
Prize Money
Nakeeta
Lord Fandango

these four are getting an extra test.

Red. Verdon is secure in the field, Nakeeta is the only horse of the four with a realistic chance of getting the run as he's in the 24 but not assured of a start.

The other two would need lots of attrition- can't see that happening.

Stopping to smell the roses.

Flemington Racecourse

Bless :)

No Penalty for Lexus Hotham winner A Prince Of Arran so field remains as above.

Assuming everyone pays up and with only Victorian Derby to tell a tale,
