What would you have as your all time team? including bench

C - Hakeem Olajuwan
PF - Karl Malone
SF - Larry Bird
SG - Michael Jordan
PG - Magic Johnson

BENCH
Oscar Robertson
Wilt Chamberlain
Nate Archibald
Charles Barkley
Scottie Pippen
Julias Erving
Elgin Baylor

Hard to pick the bench... i know i missed a few players, but i picked the ones i liked....:P Whaddya all think?

F - Elgin Baylor
F - Larry Bird
C - Wilt Chamberlain
G - Michael Jordan
G - Magic Johnson

Jerry West
Oscar Robertson
Bill Russell
Kareem Abdul-Jabbar
Julius Erving
Bob Petitt
Isiah Thomas

Pippen, Barkley and Archibald were jokes right?

Loved Hakeem, but selecting him before Wilt is akin to selecting Anthony Rocca before Wayne Carey.

Also, Pippen shouldn't even be in the top 50 of all time, let alone in the best team ever.

Guys like Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Jerry West, Bob Pettit, Isiah Thomas etc. are about 4 classes above Pippen IMO.

Now that is a much better team.

I forgot Bill Russell, but glad you mentioned the same guys i did (Kareem, West, Petitt, Isiah).

I only chose hakeem because i love him so much:P. But dont forget this.. Hakeem won 2 championships - with very near no supporting cast - Wilt had the team, but only ever won 1 ring.

How can you say that they are jokes? Barkley i can understand.. but archibald and pippen were stars. Take a guess how many championships chicago woulda have won with Olden Polynice instead of Pippen?

Ah, Wilt won two rings .

You use rings as a criteria, yet select Karl Malone. How does that work?

Wilt is clearly the best big man to play the game, his record and achievements (4 MVPs, Finals MVP) prove as much.

Pippen was a star, guys like West and Pettit were legends.

Seriously, the guy was a good ordinary player, in the class of a Drexler and Wilkins.

That is about 10 classes below guys like Kareem, West and Pettit, all of whom you left out.

For starters sorry - didnt know wilt won 2 rings - and i dont entirely use them as criteria. But still on that note Wilt had the supporting cast as hakeem didnt, showing he has the ability to take a team on his own. Dont get me wrong wilt was better - no argument - but i love hakeem.
And as i said at the start i generally chose players i liked. Scottie pippen was far better than Drexler and wilkins, those 2 werent even in the same league. I know west and petit were legends, but VERY in few players in history have have such an all-round game. IMO he has every right to be there. Thats not to say other people shouldnt be there, but i think he deserves it

Intriguing that three of the top 12 players of all-time couldn't combine for a championship. Maybe the Cs deserve a bit more recognition.

The only other Celtic I'd consider would be Bob Cousy.

It's probably fairer to select teams of particular era's so champions like George Mikan can be recognised.

C - Wilt Chamberlain
PF - Bob Petit
SF - Larry Bird
SG - Jerry West
PG - Earvin "Magic" Johnson

Bench
Michael Jordan
Oscar Robertson
Julius Erving
Elgin Baylor - Can play both SF and PF
Karl Malone
Bill Russell
Kareem Abdul-Jabbar

The only one I can think of from my list who didn't get a ring was Elgin Baylor.

Nice team, but I'd swap West and Jordan. Jordan is nothing more than a support player.

My point was that the West/Chamberlain/Baylor combo couldn't bring home the bacon.

By the Time Wilt arrived in Lakerland, Baylor was on one leg... literally. West and Chamberlain were still at or near their peaks, but Boston was still the strongest team in the league and the Knicks were building. If Chamberlain had of arrived in Lakerland in the early sixties, the Lakers would have been the strongest team in History. 3 players all at their peak, physically and all capable of averaging over 30ppg. Chamberlain and Baylor were also averaging around 20rpg. Chamberlain was the piece the Lakers were missing the early sixties, but we didn't get him till it was too late... For Baylor.

A role player who lead a team to 6 championships and won 5 MVP's.... only a support player....

Clearly that was Luc Longley's team (and before him, Bill Wennington).
