Swan and Pendlebury are much better players than Wayne Richardson was and I would say both have now gone past Darren Millane and Gavin Brown.

Cloke is a fair way off it. Peter McKenna is not even in the side which shows how hard it is to get a key forward spot.

oh my....a topic I can comment on due to excess age!

Firstly Pendles and Swanny are NOT better than Wayne Richardson, all three are absolute Champions.

There are so many changes I'd make as a septuagenarian. The Full back line looks good but James Clement easily surpasses Billy Picken off half back. Billy was a great ball magnet as a CHB but Clement is far more polished and has the ability to play almost anywhere on the ground (and he didn't talk to himself all game).
Sorry to all the lovers of stab passes but Gavin Brown would eat Thorold Merrett, Marcus Whelan HAS to be the centreman and Bobby Rose would have been the first rover. Harry Collier was a great warrior but Wayne Richardson was the better rover (so was Lou Richards). As tough as he was, Tony Shaw doesn't meet this sides quality and Cloke would match "the Weed" for strength, beat him for mobility but he'd lose out in the kicking for goal and MONGREL stakes. The weed was more of a Leigh Brown on steroids type. One more I'd change would be Phonse Kyne. I'd have Peter Moore in before I'd have Phonse in a forward pocket. Taking Shaw's place on the bench should be the one and only Johnny Greening, the greatest talent the club has ever seen.

Nice topic OP...It's been fun recalling a few names.

Richardson was a good player ... But NOT in finals
Picken was our best finals player. So clement is gone

None of them were in those days.. and while Picken was a great finals player Twiggy Dunne had him beat in that regard

I think Billy Picken probably deserves his place.
Ross Dunne and James Clement were good players but they are not team of the century quality.

Millane-Brown before Swan?

Buckley on a HBF?

No Greening?

Yeah, was thinking the same. Love the romance of Millane's inclusion but I'd have both Greening and Barham ahead of him based purely on footy ability. Brown probably as well.

Also can't understand how Carmen and Moore get overlooked. I know they both departed the club to play elsewhere but both were elite footballers and easily 2 of best players ever at the club.

Swan, Pendles and Cloke of the modern era players are deserving of recognition but with so many players in the team of the century from way before my time it's a really hard call.

I think when trav retires he will be our greatest centre half forward

murray weideman
games: 180
goals: 262
premiership: 1953 & 1958(acting captain)
copeland: 1957, 1961 & 1962
collingwood leading goals: 1959, 1960 & 1962
collingwood captain: 1960 to 1963

travis cloke
games: 196
goals: 351
premiership: 2010
copeland: 2007
collingwood leading goals: 2011, 2012 & 2013

in terms of ranking the great full forwards I would have
1. Gordon Coventry
2. Dick Lee
3. Ron Todd
4. Peter McKenna

I think "Ron" Todd may have displaced the men you have ahead of him if he'd not left for the VFA. He was as good as Pratt.

Billy was a shocking kick and never laid a tackle in his life. He also played for frees all the time. Good player but I think Clement is ahead of him for skill, pace and adaptability.

I concur. Loved Billy as a larrikan but Clement has him covered.
