Thats how we are playing at the moment.

I'm with Murray.

We shouldn't have an alternative strip.

Personally I get upset that Collingwood and Essendon refuse to have alternative strips. Yes, we've tried a few different ways to have the black and white, but not a true "alternative" to our standard strip. That shows that (both Essendon and) we have no regard for the AFL and believe we are above the game.
Time to pull our heads out of our asses and make more money by producing an alternative strip. We'll become that f*cking rich as a club we will be able to start buying premierships... just like the old days! :D

Our strip is Black and White stripes whether it be home or away

Typical narrow mindedness....get out of the 50's man! It's 2005, alternative strips are needed by all clubs. For god's sake, this 'black and white stripes or nothing' mentatlity is archaic. We know Collingwood is Black and White. By having an alternative strip (whether it be a variation of B&W or a red jumper) I don't think anyone will forget what your home jumper is. I'm an Adelaide supporter and our alternative is really no alternative at all. I would much rather see us wear something totally different. The best part is that I will be able to tell who my players are over the other side of the ground. And I'm sure the players will appreciate that too. The marketing $$$ that could be generated by wearing an away strip is surely too juicy to ignore. Have each of your away games sponsored and use the sponsors colours. I'm sure they will be happy too.

I reckon we can clash with the Bummers sometimes, but didn't the other day due to the white shorts. If we could just have a 1990's style (or a "negative" of the current jumper) jumper, and possibly hooped socks (or a better solution containing black and white), we won't clash with most teams and we won't compromise tradition.

FFS, it's pretty bloody simple. Surely Addidas and Eddie can fix it in a matter of weeks. And probably sell more jumpers as a re$ult!

We still might clash with Norf, but those bastards stole our jumper and we shouldn't have to change our colours just for one friggen match. Should be darks vs lights.

I'm putting in the predominanly white guernsey, but not because of hotpie's factual observation earlier in the thread.

Why do we need an alternate strip? We've been playing in black & white stripes for a hundred years and nobody's been confused before, so why now?

I'm sure there are times when players have been confused. Also the game is getting faster all the time. Quick reaction and decision making is needed and if a confusion of jumpers in the periphery is enough for a player to cough it up unintentionally, then surely an away strip will be a positive.

Likewise, a few games on TV are hard to read when there is a clash of jumpers...opposite colours would help.

But it is also more than any of that. Why limit your marketing appeal to one jumper. In terms of tradition, it's your tradition and you know what your colours are and what they stand for. The rest of us couldn't care less. So it won't diminish your passion for club and tradition, so what does it matter if you are wearing a white jumper; a black, white and yellow jumper or a pink jumper. You will still be the Collingwood Magpies; you will have an extra marketing tool; players and spectators will be happy, the AFL will be happy, and everybody wins.

Keep fightin' the good fight Pie fans.............

dont give in.

the history & traditions of both Essendon & Collingwood mean more than a quick 'cash-in' for a few spare $$$$$ that our Clubs can happily survive without.

if other clubs want to do it then fine.......let them.

Leaving aside the triumphalist chauvinism, he's right. If a club doesn't want an alternative strip, that up to it. No need for the AFL to become involved. I reckon the clash of jumpers as a phenomonen is over rated. Restore the white umpire outfits too.

The only possible clash with the magpies is the Roos blue & white stripes, and even then the shorts are different colours.

Its the people in Adelaide, its not that hard to confuse them.
Most of them can't walk and chew gum at the same time.

if i were to say that 1 + 1 equals 2, would that confuse your lot too much??

im afraid my comeback wasn't anywhere near as good as your insult :(

seriously though, collingwood used to have an away strip, whatever happened to that??

I would like to see the Collingwood Guernsey similar to the Hawks guernsey showed last week v Roos. Not sure how many people liked it, but i thought it was pretty good.

Under Eddie McGuires administration, Collingwood has changed its jumper design more than at any other time in the clubs history. Notice how there were never any colour clash problems between St.Kilda and Collingwood before 1999 when the Pies changed to a predominantly black jumper.

ANy1 one that says collingwood shouldn't have an alternative jumper due to tradtion is a moron

I respect your opinion but you support a club that doesn't have that long a history.

You are not a Collingwood supporter, so you wouldn't understand. It's not just a jumper.

The passion that Collingwood people have for the club is what it's all about. We don't have people jumping on our bandwagon, our supporters are there every week no matter how we are doing. We have the highest membership of any Melbourne club even if we are doing bad. Collingwood supporters love their club. That's why I love Collingwood, and I love those black and white stripes. :)
