Ancelotti Attacks World Player Award
Ancelotti feels an injustice has taken place (AFP)
12/18/2003. Milan coach Carlo Ancelotti has blasted FIFA's World Player of the Year award, after his players were largely ignored in the vote.
"I wonder whether we won the Champions' League or whether it was all a dream," he fumed.
"I think I will go to the trophy room at our club headquarters and check whether the Cup is there or not. I want to be sure."
Paolo Maldini was the highest ranked Rossoneri player in ninth place.

from one of the rossoneri faithful, there was no player from milanello that stood out last season. we just managed to get over Ajax in the QF, drew against Inter in the SF twice, and beat a Nedved-less Juve in the final in the penalty-lottery in tight defensive team performances. we also lost the scudetto after heading into the break as winter champions. pippo was the standout early on but his form waned during the season. sheva was injured for the early part, came good towards the end. 9th & top rossoneri for maldini was reasonable imo.

If the Shev can stay injury free for a year he'll be a good bet to win it in 04.

Juventus have more right to feel hard done by. Pavel was the best performed player in 03 and it's quite ridiculous that Zinidene Costanza won the award.

Not to mention the great Roberto 'powerful kick' Carlos came seventh. Its even surprising he made the top 100.

The National Coaches vote and looking at some of there selections as I have here it's quite a farce.

Some Newcastle Knights guy was voted 3rd best in the world by the Faroe Islands coach or something.

From memory I think Frank Farina went along the lines of Henry, Van Nistelrooy and Nedved.

Players with high profiles are always more likely to win the award explaining why the likes of 'fat ass ronaldo', 'roberto carlos', 'advanced hair' poll so well every year.

There household names everybody's heard of them. Whereas as Nedved is well known in Europe but I doubt whether the coach of Fiji would know too much about him.
