Rules this year will make it tough for anyone from below 20th to win from here. I'm in 50th but no chance. Starting to think about a couple of unique mids with good matchups to try and make ground but teams are so similar it's hardly worth the effort. Nobody gets in trouble this year with injuries or trades so if you're not at the pointy end it's pretty much all over. Byes was the last genuine chance to make ground.
Makes it a touch boring doesn't it (well at least if you're at around the 5k mark where I am as I can't really bank on knowing when to use trades better now to try launch myself into the top 1k before the end of the season).

Biggest thing with these trades are to nail your starting 30, if you can do that then you've got a head start on a lot because you can start upgrading your team before others. My side still has an upgrade or two to go before it's "complete" whilst those inside the top 1k (such as your own) would have a side of 22 premiums and it's just a matter of trading in those in good form for those that are struggling. Previously with the cap you could afford to be a round or two behind on getting your premiums in if it meant you might be able to avoid a zero or two down the track with trades in hand but that's gone now.

I've played the system pretty poorly this year and had some shocking luck with trades (who hasn't?). Still hoping they change their minds next year and go back to a trade cap (20-25 is ideal in my mind but I could live with 30 over the 2 a week/44 we've currently got) to keep the second half of the year more open for us trying to get the best possible rank we can.

I'm worried about how cash leagues will turn out. Everyone will end up with almost the same sort of team and it basically makes it a raffle as to who will take out the grannie. I'm out on top as far as overrall goes in my league but the highest ranked team only gets about $80 odd. If I win the thing it could be as much as $400 but winning the whole league will be difficult when everyone trades in the same players week in week out. I've well and truly conceded overall with our abundance of trades still left. I can't see many of the top 10 sliding with so many trades in hand

The 183 points he missed out on by not naming Wines, Blicavs and Milne as emergencies might have been quite handy later on.

Yeah no kidding. If he had selected his emergencies in R1 he'd be 2nd.

Here's his trades for those that are interested....having a quick look there's nothing obvious to attribute to his success. Just pure luck really. They're pretty stock standard trades.

He's never taken the C off Ablett apart from the bye round.

Thats amazing, that such simple trades have seen him skyrocket each round. Scotland, Franklin and Thomas being IN's just goes to show that you dont have to nail every trade to be high up in the rankings.

His unlucky trades have been Thomas and Barlow as far as injuries go.

BTW, whats with trading out Boyd for Watson? Have i missed something during this week? Surely he could use that trade better to bring in a L.Hunter, Danniher or something, or at the very least upgrade Priddis to some other super- premo mid?

I thought Boyd broke his face and is out for a month or so?

Priddis has only scored under 100 twice in 8 weeks. An 80 and a 90. Wingard is a bigger priority to trade I reckon but he won't listen after I told him to trade him out earlier in the year.

He's good with numbers and I guess Watson is at a pretty good price at least. Pretty sure he's saving cash to go MacAffer - SJ next round and keeping NicNat on the bench to cover for any fwd or ruck injuries/outs. Seems like a bit of a waste to me but it's not suicidal so won't try and change his mind.

Looking closely at his trades they're so far from perfect. He had Burgoyne and Scotland for too long, traded out Dangerfield for Barlow(injured 1st week) to Boyd(injured 1st week) Jumped on Gawn and Rowe who were disappointing, got Thurlow and Staker who were borderline. Got on Daisy who was injured 1st week, got in Franklin for too much $.

He navigated the bye rounds by pure luck. Planning only started the week before and he always had 20 playing I think.

Seeing that the team is very familiar, he must have made some dazzling weekly team selection decisions along the way such as bringing in Mitchell for his second 144 point game.

As we get stronger and stronger benches, we are going to have much harder decisions for that last spot on the ground. Eg Priddis vs T Mitchell playing Demons this week.

well the guy i backed in is 3rd in the overall now, up 3 spots.

But if you ever needed proof that 44 trades makes it almost impossible to catch up, the top 10 overall shows that. Really hope we have only 30 trades max for 2014.
