This guy just came to mind. For people that seen much of his career, how did you rate him along side Bradley, Silvagni, Williams and Sticks? In his prime he was fantastic from memory. Was very hard at it from what I remember? Pretty sure he captained us for a short period too.

Isn't he on the Match Review Panel?

Yer he is on the MRP, very very smart bloke he works as a veterinarian which is harder in many cases than becoming a doctor or surgeon.

One of those blokes, where his smile and demeanor instantly made you like him and trust him, such a rare quality.

very very good player, a similar player to the guy wearing his number 5 at the moment except macca played half back. Both bald, hard running, tackle breaking fearless players with great skill and as tough as nails.

The only player he wasn't able to beat regularly was Nathan Buckley, otherwise he was invincible. The way he hit packs and came out with the ball was uncanny. His only flaw was his kicking, and it got worse the closer he was to kicking a goal.

Although he did kick a "bag" in a monsoon at The Gabba one time.

He actually left the MRP earlier this season. Ex-Essendon and short lived umpire Mark Fraser has taken over.

Very good player could have played a few more years before he retired.I don't think he liked Pagan much.He was faster out the place then a bald man in a shampoo hair commercial.

You will only get positive feedback on this one. Would love to have him in the team now.:thumbsu:

Out and out champion. No matter how much praise people throw at him, he will still be under rated. One of those players who you have 110% confidence when ever he was around the ball.

Him and Archer were gems!
Who would you say are like them in this era?

IIRC - Went part time football to study for a while there, couldn't get into study in Melbourne and was going to pack it in. Think he got in to a Uni in Queensland and did the commute thing for 12 months. Returned to finish his studies in Melbourne and play for another 2 to 3 years.

Gun footballer with smarts :thumbsu:

That was 1996 when he went up there, still played another 7 seasons.

my favorite player of all time.

Bald players are the go. I guess they have that inner, angry, controlled aggression attitude with the "why me, F*ck you world!" for going bald so soon.

If i was recruiting manager id look for early signs of baldness :p

Loved it how he always ran the straight line

Never compromised. Brilliant player

Could take a specky. Could hit targets.

He was always up, even when the team was down

One of the best half back flankers in the last 25 years or so of the game

And he never tried to hide the fact he was going bald by using the unfortunate "sweep," ie. growing one side of hair really long so you could sweep it across to the other side in a sad attempt to hide baldness. No one tries it now, but it wasn't uncommon back then. Andy never went down that path, was bald and was proud

A comb-over, something homer simpson is attempting.

The "VET" was an absolute champ!
Everything you want a footballer to be.
He did it the hard way too.....Not sure how many remember that he lived and studied in Brisbane early on to get his Vet science degree and had to train on his own!
Will go down in history as one of the CFC's greatest ever Halff Back's!

Nothing but good to say about him!

My favourite player, he was such a great footballer and he still loves the Blues. I often see him at games with his kids and I last saw him at the North game.

He loves a chat and I remember being at his testimonial and the way Michael Voss spoke about him (via link) was amazing, he was a very respected player in the comp.

I used to have a hat (well I still do actually) it reads 'Andrew McKay Needs Me!". Macca loved it :D

I miss Macca........

Fearless and strong in the contest, good mark and reader of the play and a lot more athletic than his workman-like style gave him credit. Really played for his fellow defenders too and was forever willing to leave his man to help out a teammate. Along with McKenna, the best HBF of his era.

Andy McKay, Michael Sexton, Peter Dean, Stephen Silvagni and Ang Christou formed the greatest defence line in the history of the game...

As I recall he had the better of Nathan Buckley quite regularly.;)

The only time i remember seeing him line up on Bucks was the game that was played the night before Kernahan's testimonial. He DESTROYED Buckley that night. I remember telling him so at the testimonial as he crushed my hand with what was probably a 50% effort handshake for him.

Out and out gun.
