I was pissed when we didnt take him in the draft and now he looks to be a solid player.

I reckon he will get stronger physically and he's already got the speed, smarts and toughness.

Could be a good target in the off-season.

hit footskills are poor, and not super quick. Hardly hit 1 target last night (though few did)
A poor mans crowley

turn it up. he is an inside player, gets a heap of clearances and is tough and fearless. i would take him over Crowley any day. although that is bias speaking.

His kicking was supposedly poor - it is now average to above average. That's fine in my book for a guy who wins a clearance by shooting out a handpass.

He's super quick also - top 5 at draft camp over 20 meters.

Ready to sign - one of my favorites, so I am very glad.

We had the pick prior & we picked up Warnock.

Are u pissed @ that?

We also picked up Ibbotson, who was younger...but has more pace & better disposal. Will turn out the equal of Swallow if not better....very happy with Warnock

I'm sick of us being linked with every half decent West Aussie midfielder already and trade week is still weeks away.

I was so annoyed with that. He was labeled a top pick a year before he was picked up. No one picked him up that year possibly because he was considered too young.

But in the PSD we picked up the washed up old hack Schofield which was never gonna play more than a couple of years. We could have picked him up for nothing and not even wasted a draft pick.

Swallow was picked up straight after we picked up Warnock... so we would not have a chance to pick him up after Warnock. I remember CC saying on 6pr that Freo would have picked up Swallow if Warnock had not been picked up in the draft.

From memory Swallow was eligible but over looked the year before, which IIRC was the draft that we recruited Copping and Stribling after trading our first 3 picks for Josh. With the benefit of hindsight we should have taken Swallow instead of Stribling.

Well no not now, but at the time we had Longmuir and Sandilands and our midfield did and still does need players like Swallow.

No way - Stribling's gonna be a star....

We still need a backup ruck, I would like us to rookie list Griffiths.

We got Ibbo though who i was bottom age and has immaculate disposal by hand and off both feet.

Both Big Nockers and Ibbo were /are long term projects despite Big Nockers coming on faster than expected.

It is no secret that if big Nockers was gone we were going to pick Swallow with pick 42.

What about Newick with a 4th or 5th round pick as a back-up ruck? Shame he can't be rookie listed after having already been on our rookie list a few years back...

Does Griffiths have much upside with the potential to be a very good AFL ruckman (that's not a loaded question, I've seen very little of him). If he is only going to be insurance incase Warnock and/or Sandilands get injured in the next year or two I'd prefer us to pick someone who will potentially be a 100+ game AFL ruckman and gamble that Sandilands/Warnock/Gilmore can get the job done until he's ready. If Griffiths fills both categories then fantastic.

Didnt the new AFL rules allow one mature player to be picked up under the rookie list?

Yes, but they can't have been on a senior or rookie list in the past. The eagles tried to rookie list Brad Smith due to extraordinary circumstances but were denied.

Sory guys but Swallow is ours... ready to sign a new deal as someone else stated already.. and as Andrew O'Kiefe would say... "No Deal!" :thumbsu:

This is what Coach Laidley had to say about the young man after the Roos drubbing at the hands of Port:

"I was most disappointed tonight in (Hamish) McIntosh, (Andrew) Swallow, guys who have had pretty good years," he said.

Now from where I was sitting, they were far from loners in the "we didn't put in hard enough and we got flogged as a result" brigade... but for Laidley to single out a couple of their youngsters, when experienced players were MIA, is a bit poor. No deal has been signed yet - this comment might either a) fire him up to stay and get better; or b) pee him off and make him want to come home.

Given he was originally a 3rd rounder - BUT he has come on beautifully since being drafted AND he's only 20... what might we be prepared to give up to get him? Jut throwing it out there...

I'd say they'd want Murphy and our 2nd round pick.

I think we need to forget about all these players we didn't draft and turn our attentions to improving our development of the players that we do have.

Swallow is still a work in progress. Given the general consensus that our development of players is non-existant, what is the point in giving up two players for him, when he is unlikely to take his game any further at Freo?

We have some very talented players on our list - we need to find a way to get the best out of them, not give them away to other clubs, otherwise we are going to continue to go round and round in circles for the forseeable future.

Why? He's 20 years old, in 2-3 years he'll add 5-8 kgs of muscle. I can't see why we wouldnt want a player like him, he's a Brock O'Brien with 2 yrs head start.
