Hey guys,
What was up with Andrew Thompson this year? He didnt seem his usual self.
Do you think he will be retained on the list or traded?

Cheers

I think he's contracted for another year.

I imagine he'll be kept on the list but I think he'll have an uphill battle to win a place in the midfield ahead of a lot of the youngsters.

No one doubts his ability to win the hard ball. The problem for Thommo is that as time goes on and the younger midfielders come through, his poor disposal is going to push him even further down the pecking order. Another factor is that Stephen Powell had an excellent season and probably played in the role that Thommo had made his own.

I've got nothing but respect for him, sadly he just might struggle from here on in.

Thommo

didn't he lose one gonad during the year?
That might have had something to do with it.
Seriously, I think he might be a bit overwhelmed by the young talent at the club, especially in the midfield. He might be feeling a bit of pressure. Plus the pressure of being seen to be a leader, he could be struggling a bit with the responsibility...it'd be different if he were playing for the Bluescum, they're full of ****e, and he would find it very easy to guide and lead the youngsters.
Like saying to Angwin, "stop stealing from your team-mates and pull your f'ing head in..."
At Moorabbin, there's lots of potential amongst the youngies and maybe he's just finding it hard to cope.
That's just IMHO.
I don't know jack, I'm just guessing...

Ah, see how you go losing a testicle & playing footy 3 weeks later.

too many people have been very hard on Thommo & have very short memories.

He started off the season reasonably well, got seriously hurt & courageously came back when the side was struggling to assist the team.

He may be on the wrong side of 30 but is still very valuable to the team. Just watch how well he starts 2004...will make a lot of people eat their words.

Couldn't of said it better myself!!! He is in our best 18 and this time last year he was favourite to be captain. He played well at the start of the season and I think that losing a nut would slow anyone down. He will be back to his usual self next season, on the bottom of the packs, feeding out the handball and making others look good.

I could heavily argue against that, but will agree with you that he should be kept around the place, for one more season at least.

Wait a second. Thommo completely lost one of his testicles? I thought he just had an operation on it? No wonder he had a poor year. I'd be tramatized for years afterwards after something horrific like that :(

He was kicked in the groin in a pre-break game this year.
I think he only lost 1/2, but that really has to hurt. I'm pretty sure he was back for the Melbourne game.
Thommo is an excellent, committed and lion hearted member of St Kilda, I'd be pretty shocked if he was delisted, he's been playing with us for ages (1997 GF veteran, for example), and is in our best 18 easily.

I think Riccardo's right, he didn't lose the entire testicle but I sure as hell wouldn't have wanted to be in his position. He's been an excellent servant of the St Kilda Football Club and I'd expect he'll be kept on the list and pushing for a senior berth.

I'm just a little surprised that everyone seems to think he is definitely in our best 18. Possibly in our best 22 but to get a spot in our starting 18 he'll have to play ahead of the likes of Dal Santo, Ball, Goddard, Montagna, Baker, Hayes, Harvey and Powell in the midfield.

Obviously injuries will have a big say but if the entire list was to be injury free, I can't justify a senior berth ahead of the players listed.

Having spoken and being given a rundown from a couple of people who went to the B & F, Thommo did not announce his retirement. Deserves to be offered a new deal and given the chance to earn his place in the side.
