Good player, loved his aggression. Injuries as well as being bounced around in numerous positions stopped him from scaling greater heights <insert Carlisle reference>

Thank you for your many years of quality service Walks.

Before it was trendy or a buzz word, Andrew Walker was genuinely versatile. Has played some amazing football over the journey, as a backman, forward, on a wing, even in the guts...
Always desperate, always skilful, mercurial at times, and I'm sure "hanger" is his middle name.
His will to fight through and overcome constant injuries, his refusal to give up in some very poor sides and his courage to always do what his team needed him to do, have made him a loved and respected Carlton warrior.
Congratulations Andrew Walker, on a fantastic career. We'll all miss you running out in the number 1.

I have a dvd of 1AW playing for Caulfield in 2003 with Andrew McQualter (Saints the Gold C. and long gone) against Melbourne Grammar on a very wet day. Xavier Leslie was easily BOG, McQualter pretty good and Walker almost unsighted. Leslie was never drafted but trained with us to try and get rookie drafted. He would have been an out and out champion mid in the Sam Mitchell mould - but better in close and a better mark. The failure of Leslie to get drafted in a pretty weak draft demonstrated the amateur nature of recruiting back then. (I cry for this loss almost as much as I do the loss of Stephen Oliver).

But the selection of 1AW at 2 was no drafting mistake. A very good footballer and an outstanding athlete - the modern ideal. He has had many injuries and trenchant criticism on BF certainly in 2010 - those 2 issues being inter-related. I was always a fan and am amazed he has managed to play 200 games with all his injuries - a testament to his preparation and dedication.

I still reckon we were robbed in that final against Weagles when Glass grabbed 1AW and threw him aside to prevent him marking and goaling dead in front which would have given us the win. And with loss came all the Ratten-doubters that led to MM and the lost years following that could otherwise have defined 1AW's career. Highly conjectural, I accept, but it is my opinion.

Will definitely be at the MCG to cheer 1AW's onfield performances 1 last time. Very happy he is getting the farewell game and, unlike the normal week when it is not winning or losing but how we play that matters, I want a win for him. And him playing a guitar at the end.

Love that photo for so many reasons
  1. He signed my record just before he took that mark- I was on level 2
  2. It is just "BRILLIANT"
  3. The monkey in the background still does my head in
  4. The * supporters look so happy

:( Sad but so glad he got to the 200 milestone. Such a great achievement. Quality bloke and role model.
Sounds like his knee problems are very similar to Andrew McLeod in his last couple of seasons.
Watched his highlights and saw a few bits of footage from Footy Park, especially a couple of marks I remember well.
I wish him all the best with his lovely family and for whatever he chooses to do now.
My bestie is already grieving at the loss of him (fave player/babe of hers).

So bummed I am working Sunday but will be taping it for sure. Can those who are going to the match please cheer loudly for me?

Xavier Leslie who's in the OMFNL?
