showed everyone his worth today! great effort by the kid.

Many haters on here, saying he should be traded ive always been a walker fan and i think with a bit of luck and a good preseason will become a dominant force for the blues.

i think half forward/wing is his best positon

He was serviceable with his couple of goals but he let a half-lame Kennelly run it out of defense way too easily. Provided no forward pressure at all. Still credit where it's due, he provided us with a target.

Good game from him. he should have that forward defensive role and we could drop Mitch.
He should've gotten two more goals but the umpires overlooked a lot of holding freekicks

Gotta apologise to Walks. .. while I wasn't one of the ones to ask for a trade, I was one who said to wrap him in cotton and strip him down to build him up for 2011. .. Still think he needs it but he showed a lot of ticker to bounce back from a poor run of form and re-invent himself as a finals forward. .. Still needs to work hard over the off season to get his body right and confidence back in his kicking. ..

Hopefully that performance drives his trade value up, I wouldn't be taking anything less than a first round pick or the equivalent.

The one I'm struggling with is trading Jacobs, I'd still lean that way because Hampson has more upside and for a third choice ruck that's probably the most important factor.

Played a better game than Betts, yet we want to trade Walker who gave us more in a final.

Gave us more than Scotland too.

Go figure.

Hopefully the penny drops with the match committee that Walker should be played as a wingman/half forward.

You know how it is with some folks TG, they have to rationalise their bias at all cost. Reality just ain't a factor.

But to be completely fair, Eddie did give Walker 2 of his goals, so you can't say he did nothing.

It was a bad move by the MC to play him in the back (though it did work for a couple of games). Walker is a attacking minded player (from what I've seen) = play him in the forward half. He has a decent lead and good grab.

Sure he had a couple of good games as the rebounding defender, but I think Armfield, Gibbs (if he stays there) and Russell have us covered in that respect.

Whether we trade him or not, I don't care as long as we someone who will take us forward.

Was at the game, contribution was terrific in parts. Hope he doesnt get traded. Could become a good wingman if he doesnt get traded/injured. just needs confidence?

We look so much more potent up forward with Walker there with Waite and Henderson. He took marks, kicked 3.2 even if his stats weren't that high. I've seen him play all day forward twice now for a 4 goals (2 yrs ago where he marked everything) and 3 goal game in a final. Will be very valuable up there for us.

No.....not nothing. Walker was just ok today and was in front of a few but realistically speaking - we need better players so we need to trade for them...nd that means offering up something that someone wants.

Which is why we will try to get something for Jacobs.

If we could get a Mitch Duncan-type player for Sauce like Geelong bascially received for Mumford, I would take that and run. A ready made giant ruck would be more enticing to a club than a flanker/mid who are easier to find in the draft. No one would chase a contracted player who is injury prone and doesn't want to move.

The one player we lack is another line breaking wing and a medium flanker.

I would trade Betts if we got a good offer.

Disagree Tex pulls out a semi decent game on occasions then goes missing for 5-6 weeks then has a so so game .
He is definitely trade baite along with betts
These 2 guys are pretty much along with either Hampson or Jacobs our only traceable players that have any currency we need to find a big bodied defender and a chf otherwise we will continue to make early exits
Fatten and swan have to bite the bullet this year and try to trade off 1 of hampson/Jacobs betts. Walker fisher Thornton ideally if we could get a chf fb & someone like knights who is a medium foward.

Walks hasn't played forward all year (apart from a quarter against Collingwood) and is suddenly put there in a final

Kicks three goals, in a very tough, scrappy game, all at crucial times.

Great effort :thumbsu:

Yep, perhaps his forward pressure could improve, but he's hard to match up on because he can mark and play at ground level. Next year let him loss on the wing / half forward line and see how he goes

Good game by him. Definately want to keep him at the club. Only way I'd trade him is if he was part of a big deal landing us a great player. Like Mundy or Pav or Trengove.

He's worth more than anything we could get for him by himself but in a deal with a couple of our fringe/ bottom 6 of 22 players like him and draft picks we could pick up a great player.

We've traded 2 blokes in so many years both with good reasons (Kennedy for Judd as well as Fev). Finding good players to trade for is not easy. People say, "let's trade for a good player". Reality is that there isn't many/any of what we need. around. So we have keep what we have. I'm happy with a bloke kicking 3.2 in the heat of a high pressure final. Once Walker's played in a position that suits him you'll find he'll be very valuable. Makes our forward line alot more potent.

BTW his father on the CSC site has said he isn't going and doesn't want to go anywhere so discussing any trade for Walker is a moot point.

On another player now, we need to know why Betts runs out of puff by round 17/18 as he's done the last 2 years. As our leading goalkicker we need to find a way of keeping him going all year round. That "stat" alone is too important not to be. Up to that point he was consider a potential All-Australian. Something for the fitness staff to ponder.

Was good. Bit sad though. After his first game you would have thought by now he would have won games off his own boot and had a real chance today but let it slip. Could have been our Jarman.

Well said Jim.

Been saying for ages that Walker would be a perfect fit up forward. Today he showed how important he could be for us. Good in the air, good when the ball hits the deck.

He'll be a Blues forward next year.

Missed some crucial goals from poor kicking but at least he improved on recent form. Might actually give us more worth at the trade table now.

He was serviceable with his couple of goals but he let a half-lame Kennelly run it out of defense way too easily. Provided no forward pressure at all. Still credit where it's due, he provided us with a target.

Righto.....firstly I'll address this....No forward pressure at all you say?? How many touches did Kennelly have to 3 qtr time? 8 and 7 in the first half.

Was Kennelly moved up the ground by Roos because he wasn't getting near it?? Yes.

When Kennelly was moved back Mattner went to Walker, Walks tried to get to him, but it was a hopless case in the end...Mattner was effective in the first half, so Walks then went to him. Mattner had 7 touches in the last half and his run was limited...

Secondly, he definetly provided a target and should have kicked 5...he was also stiff with a couple of free kicks and held his ground and contested pretty well...

Lastly, if you want to trade him for a quality player....it wont happen. 3 shoulder reco's a broken collarbone isn't going to get you much on the trade table, plus he had way more upside than anything....I agree that wing and hf is his go....

If we want quality we have to give a player with a heap of upside...Anderson, Yarran, Hampson, Bower, Armfield, Lucas, White one of these guys....You cant trade your Thorntons, Walkers etc and expect to get quality players in return at the moment we have a number of half backs and back pocket players with plenty of upside and there the ones who will be packing their bags, plus a ruckman.
