anyone else think that he is one of the most overrated artists ever, his brand of 'POP' aret IMO has started a downrad spiral in the expectations of 'good' artwork, to either try and compare his work to the likes of Rambrandt, Van Gough, Da Vinci etc. is laughable. I hate all these boppy 19 year old uni students who think they can see his viewpoint, when there is none, his art is the art of randomness which anyone can ****ing do.

end rant

It's all about the period. You cant judge him because young people like too be cool and he is a great bandwagon to get +1 cool point. At the time there is no doubt what he was doing was quite different. Before you say anyone can be different and random just stop and think, because your not a famous artist and highly doubtful you will be. While I do think the establishment glamorises who it feels are it's prodigies, that is no indictment on the man or his work. He had a radical way of thinking about art, he showed it off and now look 30 years later were talking about him. As for the quality of art, there will always be a place for artists who can paint realistically, but there will also always be a place for people who make us think.

I remember this girl went to his exhibition here a few years ago and then gave my friend and i about a 2 hour drunk lesson on 'how brilliant andy warhole was' - give me a ____ing break.

I saw his campbell soup piece at moma last year which gave me a buzz tbh. I've read some autobiographies of people who were hanging with him in the factory and by all accounts he was a shreud business man who knew how to manipulate popular culture to earn money. I have a friend who is similar, they know how to spin crap around any situation or thing to make it artisitcally relevant.
