Has anyone been there at all? Am heading to LA in May 2011 and will be attending a Angels vs Indians game. Would have preferred to go to see the Dodgers play but unfortunately they are on the road when i'm there. If anyone has in fact been there any recommendations on seats to get. Willing to spend $150 so that covers most spots I think.

Go Mariners ;)

Nice place to watch games.

As with most stadiums along the 1B line is prime territory but I liked watching from the RF seats in the outfield when I went out there.

Wish I could help with the cost etc but I honestly can't remember.

I do remember being told that I shouldn't expect too much from the experience because of where I was sitting but then being wrapped with the view and the facilities. So if they are the bad seats in that stadium, as was suggested to me, they're still pretty good.

You came to the right place :)

I've been there countless times over the years, and honestly it's harder for me to think of a better place in the world. If you're willing to spend $150 on tickets, you can get Diamond Club seats right behind home plate for exactly that. It includes a waiter service that can bring you any type of food you want, but you have to pay for it. There's also a very nice restaurant that you have exclusive access too. Club seats, whic are on the third level (out of five...or second out of three, it kinda depends on how you count it) are a pretty sweet deal and probably better value than Diamond Club. Club MVP for $75 represents fantastic value. If you want to get out of that top-tier range, I'd strongly reccomend going on the terrace or field level. Terrace level gives you a better view of the whole park, but field level is awesome because you are so close. Terrace MVP, Terrace All-Star, Field MVP and Field All-Star are all good. I'd go on the first base side if you're going with any of those, but if you're going for something cheaper like Terrace Box, go down the third base/left field side because if you're too far down the first base side your view of centre field gets blocked by the right field pavillion. Having said all of that, because the Indians are about the lowest drawcard you can get, you'll be able to get great value from Stub Hub, or from scalpers (I can even suggest the location of the best scalpers if you like).

Best bars before the game are definitely The Catch, which is on Katella Avenue and a short walk to the stadium, or JT Schmidt's (which I think is the best), also on Katella and even closer to the stadium. Throwbacks is another good one which isn't too far away, and they offer a free bus to and from the game (saves you a lot on parking) while the OC Sports Grill is kinda crappy but a very shorty walk.

Also, be prepared that the traffic is a massive bitch, and the parking lot can be a real hassle too. Where are you staying/coming from?

I've got no idea why you'd rather see the Doyyers play either. Chavez Latrine is a dump. But let me know if you have any further questions, if you go to see my team in my town, I'll look after you.

Thanks guys really appreciate the help :)

I will be going 100% thats a given. We are going on the Saturday night. Does that usually draw a decent crowd? We are staying in Santa Monica on the day of the match but the GF has already organized us to be spending that day in the OC which im pretty sure isn't too far away.

I would like to be close to the action thats why im leaning towards being down the first base line on the bottom deck. Is it worth being that close to the action?

Again thanks to both of you for the input, really appreciate it!

Be careful going from Santa Monica, it can take a LONG time. While it's not that far away in terms of actual distance, if you go at the wrong time it'll take you at least 90 minutes but on a bad day two hours or more. But if you head down between 10am and 3pm, you should be able to get there in just under an hour. Ask your hotel concierge for the best way to do it through traffic, but whatever anyone tells you, do not do the Freeway 10 to the Freeway 5, it will take you about three hours, even though that's what pretty much any map site will say to do. The 405-110-91-5 would work much better, as would the 1-405-105-5 (I hope that didn't go over your head). Edit: Now I think of it, the 1 South-405 South-22 East-5 North-Exit at The City Drive is your best bet.

The game won't get a great crowd. Paid up attendance will probably just crack 40k, but there won't be more than 35k there. You'll be able to just walk up on the day of the game and get a great ticket easily. It's definitely worth being close to the action and it's pretty good value at Angel Stadium, so Field MVP down the first base side would be what you're after.

Cool cool well I guess I will look at that then!

Really looking forward to it to be honest.

Memories. Went to an Angels/Devil Rays Sunday afternoon game back in 2000. Wouldn't have been more than 5 thousand there. Obviously not a great atmosphere, but my first taste of big league baseball. Ticket cost $10. BTW, train was late from San Francisco night before, hit a ute full of Mexicans on the way down. Got in to LA central around 2 in the morning, bus transfer to Anaheim. Bus terminated at Edison Field carpark. No idea where I was, where the hotel was, starting to get a little worried. Fortunately another Aussie couple were in the same boat, and made the bus driver call us a cab. As it happens, hotel was about 500m down the road.

Been to many games at the Big A?

I was an Angels season ticket holder in the early years of this decade and I have lost count of the number of games I have seen in Anaheim.

My favourite seats are in the Terrace MVP area or in the Club level, as I find the elevated view preferable to field level. Parking can be bad, and commuting from Santa Monica could be a nightmare. It would be worse on a Friday though - it once took me 8 hours to drive from Newport Beach to Valencia (Magic Mountain) on a Friday afternoon/evening.

Regardless of the opponent Saturday nights often sell out, especially if the Angels are playing at their normal division winning level (last year was a bit of an abberation).

That's awesome, flamethrower. Being a SSH would be awesome, it's always been a retirement/long service leave dream of mine to do it for at least a season. How did you become a fan BTW? Are you from So Cal?

I doubt that game would sell out though. The economy +no All Star Game + team sucking will see a big drop in SSH this year.

And traffic around Santa Monica is always a nightmare. The I10 has to be the worst place in the world.
But yeah, I've been to more games there than I could possibly count, and a lot of Angels games on the road too. I go over at least once every year, I'm going in June this year and will get to go to all six Freeway Series games and a few other home series.

Today is a disasterous day in the history of our beautiful ball club.

Vernon F'n Wells and they claim that they couldn't afford Crawford or Beltre? Moreno makes me want to vomit.

Beautiful stadium though and amazingly nice staff. Treated me wonderfully well every time I've gone there.

I realize you're going on Saturday but Fridays is the day to go to an Angel game at Angel Stadium. Big Bang Friday!

Whats Big Bang Friday?

A fireworks show they have for every Friday night home game. People who find those things interesting seem to think it's pretty cool. But I also love going to Friday night games because everyone stays to watch the fireworks, it means you get a free ride out of the car park (or to shop in the team store).

I have no idea how you blame Moreno for adding Wells BTW. He is, by far, the best owner in Angels history, and anyone who thinks otherwise clearly jumped on the Angels bandwagon. It's all on Reagins, who needs to be fired ASAP.

Cool ill keep that in mind! BTW is there any public transport that takes you back towards Hollywood after the games?

Great Stadium.

Been twice, once in 1995 and again last April for opening week. The day we went was free beanie night so got a couple. We went as a group so got a group discount.

Cost me $200 all up which included a limo to the stadium for me the missus and 2 kids, food and drink and souvenirs for the kids, we sat in one of the upper levels on the 3rd base line, almost got a fly ball and one of our group caught a t shirt fired intio the crowd.

Worth every cent even though Angels lost 4-2 to the Twins.

hanging out to go again when I can afford it.

Go Halos

Big Bang Fridays, apart from the fireworks show, is usually the game days that they hand out the popular souvenirs such as bobble head dolls, etc.

So following the team since two years before Salmon joined the Angels is a bandwagon fan?

You proved yourself wrong in your own final sentence. Arte Moreno is responsible for hiring Reagins WITHOUT running a head hunting search for the best possible candidate. There were other names out there who were far more qualified than Reagins for doing it.

I agree that this is on Reagins. However, it goes back to who made the hire. You guessed, Arte Moreno. What exactly has Moreno done as owner for the Angels? Even HalosHeaven (the guys who run that have been season ticket holders for almost the entire duration of the franchise) and the Angels forum that I contribute to is seeing what I've been saying for a few years now. He signs a few big name players who had VERY limited interest elsewhere (Vlad Guerrero and Torii Hunter, neither of whom were chased by the Red Sox or Yankees) and apart from that he has lowered beer prices. The rest of the decisions (that he as owner HAS to sign off on) have been awful (Gary Matthews Jr, Finley, etc, etc, etc.). He came out and categorically stated that he basically couldn't afford Beltre and Crawford and then goes on a couple of weeks later and okays the trade for the worst contract in baseball? He's a proven liar.

Oh God no. There's no public transport after night games generally, but especially not for that trek. Your only real option from Hollywood to Anaheim for a night game is to drive. It takes a bloody long time too (especially on the way there).

"Worth every cent even though Angels lost 4-2 to the Twins."

I was there actually :)

HalosHeaven says it? Oh wow, it must be true then! That website is a joke.

"The rest of the decisions (that he as owner HAS to sign off on) have been awful."

That's simply ridiculous. He took over a backwater franchise with no money, and almost immediately they became a perennial contender (not bad for a team that had won three division titles in over 40 years), winning the division in 04, 05, 07, 08 and 09. After the crap of the Jackie Autry/Disney era, his arrival was a Godsend. We were considered a small market team by the moronic way they ran the franchise, yet now we have made legitimate inroads into LA and are rightly considered a big market team. He has committed to having one of the biggest payrolls in baseball, and after the crap of yesteryear, that is more than good enough for me. The Vlad signing was brilliant, regardless of who else was bidding for him. It was one of the best moves the team has ever made. And to say he is a proven liar is stupid.

The Angels have been one of, if not the best run franchises in baseball since he took over. You're deluded if you think otherwise.

Im going there hopefully in 2012 when i do my sports trip over there. I got to see the Angels once but that was at the Texas Rangers old stadium in Arlington and became a fan.
The Stadium looks awesome on TV so i can only imagine what it would be like in the flesh, my brother in law just came back from there and did a tour and went and watched a game and didnt tell me the bastard. Reckons it was amazing

How far away is this stadium from Disneyland?

We went a few years ago and stayed just next to the Mighty Ducks Arena (Anaheim Convention Center) and Disneyland from memory is just down the road.

It's a 5-10 minute drive away, Alex. So not far at all. If you stay at any of the hotels around Angel Stadium, they operate very cheap shuttle services to Disneyland that only take a few minutes and run very regularly.

I assume you meant you stayed next to the Honda Center (Arrowhead Pond as it used to be known) though? That's where the Ducks actually play and it's right next to Angel Stadium. The Convention Center is right next door to Disneyland, but not where the Ducks play.

Yeah, we got a shuttle to a few shopping centers (or as they say (Maaaaallllls)

I don't know what I mean, we stayed at the Anaheim Marriott and that was just around the corner from the arena (didn't go to a game and didn't know the arena name but knew the mighty ducks played their as their logo was everywhere) and Disneyland, went to the Lakers and Celtics instead. Wanted to go to a MLB game but went at Christmas and that make it hard.
