For all those supporters out there, who think he's shit. Hope you watched today!
While not dominating, he had a very solid game and proved he is our #1 ruckman by far! :thumbsu::thumbsu:
10 Disposals, 5 Marks, 16 Hit outs, 4 tackles and 2 goals 1.
Thought that he competed very well today and after Jack I think he was the second best looking forward!
He should have probably kicked 4 goals if he hang onto that mark in the goal square and slotted that other goal..
Simmonds should now announce his retirement, as he will not be able to get back in this side.

Thoughts?

Nah wrong move. Simmonds to say he has back spasms and to go on the long term injury list, ELEVATING THE GOO.

I was one of those people and I thought he was excellent today. Agree though want to see him do it consistently and against better ops than skipper and Renouf. But you can only judge him on what he is up against and he was sensational today.

I think Gus does his best work up forward. He could be that big bodied forward we need to give Jack a bit of a hand. He looked OK up forward last year against the Swans as well.
I'd leave him in the team now. We need to find out whether he can cut it at a consistent level. I think he can, but he will come up against far better opposition in the future. I mean, Hawthorn are struggling for ruckmen as much as we are.

Was impressed, played better than I thought and can kick a goal or two.
Vickery was horrible though, and this is from the guy on the Vicks bandwagen.

agree was decent, and also though that last week... was very very good around the ground but average in the ruck against 2 average ruckmen, sad to say vickery was alot worse

looked good today. was not in the ruck alot but looked ok when there. crashes packs. if he could just stick a few more would be very good.

Why wasn't he in the team round 1?
He was good last year and given his size and strength is a great addition to the ruck and forward line. He should've played more in the ruck today but then looked good in the forward line. As far as im concerned the big grey-dog is our man and has always been in my opinion.

i think many of us have been campaigning for some time that any change on simmo will be an improvement and we have been vindicated...for the input we had from simmo it has been a poor choice to continue flogging a dead horse without even a chance at something diff...well done to Gus...did extremely well:thumbsu:

I think he played like he did last Year wen he played seniors, he has to stay in the side to help provide structure, he vickory who is tiring and polak should play full forward and Ruck. Sometimes players can't play reserves and are different wen they play AFL or some BF posters who report there thoughts on games from coburg watch games with biased eyes, don't think hardwick will hand out games to players who look like Tarzan and play like Jane or don't look interested, also interesting wen he played against box hill he got bagged Coz he played rubbish against a side that didn't hav any rucks, today's against there senior side he plays well and he gets the let's see how he goes against Ryder and Hill, surely he or Vickory can't be expected to dominate there ruck positions just yet.

hasnt been playing that well at VFL, probably only got a game to expose the Hawks and he did well and will get another game. Vickery needs a rest to i think. or let him have some light training sesions this week. now we have Gus we dont need Vickery to ruck 70% of the game.

To the people that are saying Vicks had a bad game, I must have missed something.

Gus was our #1 ruckman today, no doubts about it, he was great but I didn't think Vicks had that bad a game. He did some valuable things in the middle stages. What did I miss?

Might be time for him to put the Coburg City Oval into his GPS system for next week....

It took 7 weeks. Sometimes it's better to judge players on what they did in the seniors the year before as opposed to the reserves in the current season. It's not like vick and simmo were doing anything to warrant keeping him out.

Jake king has been known to dominate VFL every now and again....whats he done in the AFL?

Sounds like hillie has been reported and looking at 2 weeks from all counts... Gus to dominate.

I was impress with Graham's efforts today especially in the forward line. Im glad Hardwick address the issue that we didnt have a strong forward - and brought in Graham

Also it's quite fitting that he wears no25 - as similiar built to B Gale.

I think he played like he did last Year wen he played seniors...

Exactly DT, a lot of people missed just how good he was for his age and experience in those few pre-back spasm games last year. They'd love to have Mitch Clark, but missed the game when Gus beat him one on one. ;)

He should have started rd.1 as a lock-in no.1 ruckman. Fitness looks improved from last year and he's even more solid - gotta play him for the rest of the year fitness permitting.

Should have played all 8 games
100% agreed. What is the point of him developing a VFL culture, I have been against Simmonds playing for the tigers all season, I appreciate his effort and for sticking around to take some of the load off the kids, but it is not necessary.

Fact is we have been getting spanked in the hit outs all season, with or without Simmonds, play our kids and get them learning on the big stage.

Absolutely no point prolonging the development of our ruck stocks, we are always so keen to get our first round picks to start playing on the big stage, the ruckman need to learn their game on the big stage also.

I know Gus has had his chances, but playing him at Coburg is not going to help us one bit.

i reckon Hardwick, Lade and Co will concede they underrated Gus. Hats off to Simmo for trying but he just isn't either the present or the future
