But at last, some semblance of closure for the family of Annette Steward, with her killer finally brought to justice.
I lived just two streets away from her residence in Geelong West at the time, while studying at uni, and can't begin to tell you how gripped in fear Geelong West was at the time, especially the young uni population in the area.
A poor tradie - her former 'off an on' again boyfriend - was the chief suspect and has had to wrongfully deal with the allegations for more than 30 years.
Never thought this would be solved and never been far from mind given the proximity. Still get shivers driving past the house.
Had he not killed again in WA in 2020, it would never have been solved, even though he was interviewed years ago.
