Thawed for your convenience.

Dead set annoys the crap out of me every time I see it, appeared in one Safeway ad yesterday at least 5 times.

People who cannot say toilet. They say things like "going to powder my nose" or "going to the little boys room" etc. etc. Have you noticed that the word toilet has been banned from all those crappy american sitcoms?

Banned? Don't they just not use the word 'toilet' in America when they have to go, instead just using 'bathroom'? I wouldn't have thought this was an issue.

I used the word "toilet" in America once. I think they all thought I was very rude.

What is that a euphemism for?

Maybe I am missing something.....or you don't understand what euphemism means.

Saying toilet in the states is a no no.

I was 7 years old when my Grandmother died. My Mum tried to explain it to me, using the euphemism "she's gone away for a long time, on a holiday where she will be very happy" or something along those lines. So for about 6 months I went on believing my Gran was somewhere in the Bahama's holidaying it up. If only they actually told me she'd died in the first place, I wouldve been a lot less confused when I realised that she never returned from that so-called "holiday"!

what is it an euphemism for?

"thawed for our convenience, so don't bother trying to re-freeze it at yours"
would be the first that comes to mind

euphemism

n : an inoffensive expression that is substituted for one that is considered offensive

close enough one would have thought, maybe you missed something ;)

My dog "ran away" when i was a child. 15 years later i found out that "ran away" meant died.

Euphemisms hey...
How's this for an example... Let's use the word Liberate... It can mean to free people from oppressive regimes, or it can be used as a euphemism in relation to the word steal...
Gee... I wonder if anyone thought of using that........
(Last I checked a Euphemism was using a non-offensive word or something else in replace of one that would offend or seem rude)

[/end "I'm a Political Uni Student" rant]

Um, that was my point! So it hasn't been 'banned', people just naturally don't say it. Most countries are like that anyway, English speaking or not. I have a close Canadian friend, and now even I've picked up the use of 'bathroom' a bit. Sigh.

Im pretty sure its been banned on American sitcoms and drama type TV shows for well over 20 years. There was some TV show years ago that put it in the script and there was a bit of a stink up. Cant remember which show though.
